Is 2009 finally the year of the projector phone? Eh, not likely -- but there are finally a few models filtering into retail after years of talk,
prototypes, and empty promises, including the
Logic Bolt from independent manufacturer Logic Wireless and this puppy from Sammy. We're told that the aptly-named Show is inbound for release in South Korea before the end of the month, it runs Samsung's ubiquitous
TouchWiz platform, and it packs DLP-based pico projector tech
from TI, but that's about all we (and Samsung's US reps) seem to know about it. The projector can be used to view media stored in phone memory, pull up mobile TV via Korea's T-DMB airwaves, or simply project light, a function luddites may know better as a "flashlight." Most importantly, it actually isn't half-bad looking -- a symptom of a major manufacturer getting involved and throwing some won and industrial design staff at the thing, we bet.

The era or projecting "Fat Ass" on a large woman's behind begins.

In my head, I see POTUS making a public speech while his face been projected with what's been known as the Heath's makeup in the last batman movie.
It's the new era of the projected pollutions, mate.

Anyone else have to read "throwing some won" a few times? Why couldn't you just use real words for money, Chris? It's late. I'm not going to figure it out too quickly if you don't!

"won" is the Korean currency. So it's the same as saying "throwing some dollars"
semikyopo @ Jan 12th 2009 3:40AM
Don't think "show" is the name of the phone...it's the name of a wireless carrier in Korea. That's their logo above the screen.
BigD @ Jan 12th 2009 5:41AM
aren't you the little know it all...
You already know I'm getting this phone, don't you, semikyopo?
superhobo @ Jan 12th 2009 3:42AM
Nice, how big is the image on these things? 14"?
Shinigami @ Jan 12th 2009 8:58AM
32" 320x240. QVGA 4eva.
Wishmaster @ Jan 12th 2009 3:45AM
The prototype is called show. Before it will be released they will change the name or not but it is not the name of wireless carrier in Korea.
identitycrisis @ Jan 12th 2009 4:00AM
I don't know about the name of the prototype, so you might be right. Anyways, the logo above the screen that says "SHOW" is the brand of KTF, a wireless carrier.
BigD @ Jan 12th 2009 5:46AM
Indeed, Show is what KTF calls their 3G+ services...You will see this logo on their entire line-up of phones and on billboards and buses everywhere throughout South Korea.
I can't comment on whether or not that is the actual name of the prototype.

Nice product

I just can not believe how often T-DMB is described as "The Korean system / innovation / standard" etc.
Please note the following FACTS:-
1. It was developed in the first instance by Robert Bosch in Germany.
2. It is a development of the European Eureka 147 Protocol
3. It is a system simply added to the many Existing DAB / DAB+ systems already in use
4. It has been seen in use already from Canada to China, New Zrealand to Norway!
5. The vast majority of systems already in use run on European Multiplexes
Currently - the majority of the encoders inuse are of Korean Origin - but there are now many European encoders that will be hitting the street and taken up fornew services expected around the globe.
See World DMB for more details if required

I pray to god this tech never makes it to market. Kids with phones on buses are annoying enough as it is already, thanks to whatever genius decided it was a good idea to market phones capable of blaring out tinny grime and bashment music. Combine that with the ability for the kids to project porn onto other passengers' backs and I'll probably never leave the house again.
