Archos 10 netbook sits down for a photo shoot
The Archos 10 netbook was loosed into the crowds early this morning, and already Laptop has a hands-on up. Comically enough, this 10-inch machine is actually the largest product ever launched by the company, as it generally focuses on handheld PMPs and the like. Specs wise, it's about as vanilla as they come, and design wise, it's overwhelmingly simple. For those with a deep appreciation of matte black and a love for software geared towards multimedia freaks, head on down to the read link for a video and photo gallery.

It looks pretty vanilla to me too, Engadget.
I quite prefer chocolate
They're just stickers you know. They do come off. And its got an Intel cpu... just like your Mac Book Pro.
Snap!
Let's get some EEE T91 details.
I like Apple Fanboi...they're funny!
Pancreatic cancer survival rates aren't that promising time to sell now and buy before an upcoming iPod refresh.
Poor Old Steve Jobs
Prick.
Goddamn you. FAIL
No edge to edge keyboard? pah
Why, on a laptop so small, would you waste space at the side of the keyboard?!?!?!
@Dopefish
No joke! This is a criminal design flaw.
Considering Archos' abysmal product support (Yo Archos, where's the TVPortation plugin, you jerks!), I wouldn't get near their new foray into netbook world. The fact that this Archos 10 is so painfully mediocre makes the point.
yep when the 604 wifi came out no flash plugin no updates.
and this is common for archos this netbook will be supported for a 4months tops or until they have a newer version
Do we have to pay more to use flash or to play certain movie files?
Archos Netbook is a rebranded Hasee MJ125
I think I like their tablet thingies better.
Does this just smack of mediocre, or is it just me? At least with their past products, they TRIED to make them somewhat unique.
Well, looks like a real keyboard for a start. Good thing.
not glossy enough.
pass.
I wouldn't buy less than those with 92%+ fullsize keyboard, its been done :).
Well, they got the postion of the trackpad buttons right (are you listening Acer?). Now all the have to do is lose the lame, 'tarded stickers that mar an otherwise nice product.
I think that you are contractually obligated to have those Intel and Microsoft stickers on a laptop if you want to be able to ship it with their processor and OS. Though the customer can usually easily just peel them off.
Archos needs to put out a competitor to the OQO. I think they'd nail it.
It'd also be horribly expensive and it'd fall apart after six months - and that's if they don't try another one of these 'plugin' models like they have with their media players.
'want to use wifi? sure, just enable it with this €15 add-on'
Okay, so it might not be *that* ridiculous, but it's the main reason I didn't buy Archos again when upgrading from a 404.
a netbook that effs up BOTH shift keys??? damn...
Well I for one have always had an appreciation for Black and 10 inches.
In your mouth?
I don't get it. Why?
Who needs this?
Who would buy this over a ASUS or Acer or anything else that's on the market now?
In what way does this capitalize on Archos' areas of technical and marketing strength?
In what way does it help them in their core market segment?
Why bother entering a crowded market with a commoditized item and miniscule profit margin?
Oh, the humanity! It Just Makes NO SENSE!
(unless Archos is totally broke and is trying to garner some investment from cash flush Chinese computer companies)
This is exactly what I was thinking. I am wondering if this is what an earlier post postulated, a rebranded product of another company. If thats the case, maybe they are looking for the quick buck and are really at work on an original, unique product? Ugh, probably not.
Who needs this? Just about 15 million people last year, and probably around 50 million people this year. The smaller, cheaper, lower power laptop segment is booming, and anyone who isn't in this market is fooling themselves.
Why should Acer and Asus own the whole bulk of that new 50 million sales per year market?
i missed out on the first go around of this news, i had to. anyways im shocked to see they didnt go the linux route.
Weird isn't it ?
But you know even if Archos has been using Linux in its devices for quite a long time now, it's always been some home made locked-up version.
So this or Windows XP...
Looks very nice. No complaints other than the fact that the loaded software is crap...
I don't have a laptop ATM, saving up for a (freakin' expensive) MacBook Pro... so would like something to hold me off and take notes in college class... its very intriguing at this price...
But yeah- definitely going with a brand I trust and not this crap.
If you follow the instructions in that Wired video, you can probably install OSX on this Archos 10 laptop if that's the X86 OS that you prefer.
Oh that matte black magic works a spell on me! I just returned the Archos 5 because it wasn't matte black enough. I suppose this will have to do. Pray tell something even more "matte black" doesn't appear as soon as I order this baby.
I think its pretty hot, if its under £250 then itsa good deal.
Come one dual core atoms, is it really that hard?
I have a dual core atom in my pc..
no linux option?
Can we please have sockets on the back so I don't have to look at the wires. And the audio sockets on the left so they don't get in the way. And a single USB on the right near the back for a mouse.
Interesting, I was expecting an Arm-based netbook from them. Why? On my Archos 7 PMP, I connected a USB hub, keyboard, mouse and it worked! http://patmoorhead.wordpress.com/2008/12/30/archos-7-a-future-netbook/
