SCS Mixer & Deck professional controllers herald a revolution for the digital DJ
HOLLYWOOD, FL – January 14, 2009 – Stanton DJ, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of professional audio products for DJs, announces the official release of the SC System into retail locations worldwide. The SC System is an innovative set of digital controllers for the professional DJ, comprised of the SCS.1d deck and the SCS.1m mixer. Both units are advanced control surfaces that give the laptop DJ new performance abilities and functionality within the MIDI-compatible software of their choice, while preserving the familiar feel and layout of more traditional equipment. The components of the high-end system can be used standalone or together, allowing for multiple configurations and diverse functionality that goes far beyond the parameters set by traditional DJ gear.
The SC System is the result of years of research in new technologies and user interface design, and unites these elements in an ergonomic and intuitive package. "As a company, we made a commitment to invest in technology that would take DJ performances to the next level," states Tim Dorwart, CEO of The Stanton Group. "The SCS-1 deck and mixer show our commitment to this market, to the DJ controller paradigm and to our customers, who have been instrumental in providing feedback and input into these products."
Several new technologies are found in the SC System. Among these are HSS1394, a proprietary high-speed communications protocol developed by Stanton Magnetics and Bome's Software for the SC System 1 family of products. This groundbreaking innovation allows MIDI messages to be translated and rapidly exchanged via FireWire. HSS1394 solves the need for extremely fast communications from control surfaces to DJ software, and ensures the fastest messaging achievable with hardware while still maintaining the appearance of a standard MIDI device.
To support the hardware's diverse software compatibility, Stanton has developed a preset library for the System, including a preset for Traktor Pro™ as well as a general preset that applies to other popular software applications. The presets will be updated regularly, and are available for free download off the Stanton website.
For more information on the SC System 1, other products in the SC System family, and Stanton's full line of traditional DJ equipment, visit www.stantondj.com and www.enterthesystem.com.

I'll wait for Pioneer's or Technic's offerings first thanks.
you'll be too old to dj when they come around
x2
The last thing we need is more DJs
That was for mere.
Well, being a dj myself i kinda agree with you. Djing with vinyls still is the technique you gotta master to consider yourself really good. But as time moves on, the focus has moved from mixing the tracks to effects, live bootlegging, sampling, and even live producing via software-tools such as Ableton Live, Traktor, and others.
A well mixed vinyl set just doesnt please people anymore in times of a billion djs, all having their own internet radioshow, podcast and so on.
In the end easier mixing has a lot of other very crative capabilities, i suggest looking at the "approach to controllerism" videos on youtube by Moldover, if you want to get an idea of what future creative mixing will look like. Easier mixing is really just a bad thing if you dont spend the time you win on other creative stuff to please and amaze the crowd.
Personally I'm looking forward to Denon's new DN-S3700: CD, MIDI and USB drive playback capability. I could rock it anywhere with a coupla those! Skratchworx had an early preview up today: http://tinyurl.com/8km778
I'll wait for Denon's new DN-S3700. CD, MIDI and USB drive playback capability. Should be badass with the new Xone:22 mixer from Allen & Heath.
Justice would love to have this and they might even plug it in
i think i love you.
LOL.
They use Pioneers for their DJ sets, though. That picture was from a "live" performance.
/sarcasm-unawareness
Its going to be hard for any CD player to tackle pioneer's stranglehold on the market no matter what new features are brought to the table.
Agreed. See avatar. :)
oh ... 1st!
Umm, no, just no. If you're gonna do that, at least put it on your actual first post. Or better yet, don't do it at all.
i still get vinyl in the mail every day
LOL @ Midi over Firewire! Overkill!
I just got a wiimote (didn't buy the stupid console) and well this werks with it from what I could tell chatting with peeps around the werld last eve. wiijing or 3Djing as I like to call it ( uses three axis of movement) is fun and lets you tweak out sounds that no amount of true hands on can give. sorry but ther's something revolutionary about it. The world needs MORE DJ's.
But Old Skool is where it's at man, don't be no jive turkey ya digg!
Serato Scratch live is better
At first glance...I thought it was a smooth glass touchscreen DJ system on ipod touch or something BIGGER
If you are a DJ and you use anything other then 2 technic turntables with serato (or real vinyl) ... your a joke. plane and simple. i also agree there are a MILLION DJ's out there and 98% of them are also a joke that put "DJ" in front of some cool sounding word and make a myspace. if your a DJ annnnnddddd a waiter... your not a DJ. please people. stop trying so hard. good luck selling all your retarded equipment on ebay 2 years later cuz it never worked out. so stupid... and if you are wondering if im a real DJ... then go to www.DJDIK.com and see for yourself. just venting... thanks for reading
wow what a stupid assumption. 98% of the Trance music scene uses CDJ's. Are you telling me Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, etc. aren't "Real" Dj's? Almost every large club out in the UK has STANDARD 2-4 CDJ-1000mk3's and a DJM-800 Mixer.
Also what kind of "DJ name" is dj dick...sorry dik
tell that to richie hawtin. retard.
What is u are "DJ Waiter" !!
chika chika!
What if****
Sorry but 100% of the professional world disagrees with you. Good luck with your career considering I've never even heard of you.
WOW! Will love these in combo with my new macbookpro...
...
wait
firewire 400
nevermind
I honestly don't like these posts in engadget because I think it might add more wannabes out there. I'm all for the progression of music but the basic skills of beatmatching might suffer over time now that there's auto bpm. As for this piece of equipment I'm not exactly ready to trade in my technics for a stanton.
Good thing those BPM counters never work, yeah?
Hawtin uses Traktor Scratch Pro.
Yeah, down with mp3 and CD DJing. Boo!!! Let's all go back to the good old days when the world still had Cholera, Women weren't allowed the vote, and the idea of a Black President was ridiculous. Let's bring back 8track, or better still someone out there, please develop a a portable turntable so I can walk around and listen to all my records on the go.
H8 mp3's y'all!
To all those haters, it's called progress. All technologies move on with time.
Who cares if certain skills are lost over the years? Most people go out to club nights to dance / get buzzed on class-A's, / get laid that night / get drunk as fuck / or all of the above. Sorry to tell you this but no one gives a fuck what equipment you are using. And if someone does moan, then why aren't you the one up there 'doing a better job'? Don't be bitter cause they are getting all the limelight.
Never heard of DJ DIK, and probably never will, but have heard of the Justices, The Bloomin' Beetrooters and The Daft Punk Band. I'm pretty sure they use various amounts of digital music technology in various configurations. They must be joke's eh? I hate those guys, DIK you are right, lets all stone them to death. Down with fakers!!!
Get a life.
Could not have said it better myself
DJDIK. You are misguided sir. Vinyl DJing is a fantastic performance art, I agree, but slagging off newer DJing methods is childish in the extreme. Thanks to software and enhanced hardware, the performance is becoming more and more live in nature. It gives music producers far more scope to play their music to the public. Check out Psy Trance guys, and you'll see what is possible.
You can cut dubplates still, but it's hardly worth the effort. Burning a CD is much more cost-effective, and playing an MP3 is even easier.
Like someone else has said, Serato is still the best way to go!
talking about it from a distance is nice and all.
but to quote freddie foxxx:
Rhymin is a part of my life
I'ma die with rhymin kids and a rhymin wife
I don't let nobody judge me that don't know how to do what I do
So if you don't like it then fuck you!
apply it to this and any other topic
Beastmaster2000 totally pwnt DJDIK. I went to ur site but didnt see any sample mixes to really show your cred. WOnder what comes up on rankings at thedjlist.com for you with ur 1200s and serato.
Like beastmaster said, its called progress and technology changes and u hv to let go and adapt to the new stuff or you will automatically get booted off the stage.
I cant wait for a cheap console that lets me mix at home for fun.
Yes i had cdj1kmk3s and djm800 but sold it on ebay cuz it was not worth $3K+ sitting in my spare bedroom when i caould only play with it a couple hours a week. Not all of us DJ as a source of income. Some of us just like to play around even though we are pretty ept at beatmatching and transitions. We go to big DJ shows just to see their ability at mixing and track selection and crowd control and NOT to get drunk, laid or all of the above.
Not everyone plays tennis or golf at a pro level no? There are plenty hobbyists for mixing and the first company to come out with a small, inexpensive and reliable console will make decent money from these enthusiasts.
Lets hope Pioneer, Technics take a stab at it soon and keep it cheap.
I wouldn't consider TheDJList.com a reliable source for polls and DJ rankings. Not even DJ Mag. These 2 websites make me sick!
Well said on the other stuff though.
*ranks you up*
"in order to transmit MIDI messages rapidly over FireWire"
Brilliant!! Even faster!!
Electronic Music!!!!
Glass Starts as Sand!!!
Everything starts from something.
I have always prided the fact that mainstreamers do not understand that Our category of music is not just one style. It has everything from experimental to jazzy to funky to house to gabber to even your most basic beats.
Technology has always been integrated in our music. It has given artist the freedom to take what in their head, dreams and thoughts and integrate them ELECTRONICALY into what we have come to love.
It started with Jack,
Warehouses were broken into
cardboard was dragged by dance teams
we had to use what they gave us on vinyl.
then we had technology to make our music
I judge the dj by the mix, what came out of his/her head
you can complain, but did you break into the warehouses, did you steal the turntables used by your dad, did you do a headspin on a refrigerator cardboard box?
We have progressed!!! We will always respect the Mix Master, Q-bert and the many others who have made turntablism and art. Although our music is now mainstream because it is an art that more and more people are understanding.
