ASUS spices things up with 16-inch F50 / 17.3-inch F70 laptops
At first glance, there's nothing exceptionally, um, exceptional about the new F50 and F70 lines from ASUS, but upon further investigation, each family does actually do a decent job of differentiating. Both crews sport the "new generation Infusion styling," which is reportedly exactly like looking at the Aurora Borealis (really, ASUS?), and they also boast Full HD (1080p) panels, an HDMI port and a fresh "Chocolate keyboard" which melts in your mouth, not in your hand. The whole lot also features the Express Gate instant-on OS, and hardware geeks will appreciate the upwards of 1TB of HDD space and optional Blu-ray drive. Per usual, ASUS isn't dealing prices or ship dates, but you can have a look at all possible configurations down in the read link. One more shot is after the break.

this is going to be lame in know, but i cant change my profile picture. can anyone help me out here? what size does it have to be and such
Woo, I've been waiting for these newfangled ultra-function bulkized Asus netbooks for a while now. What a great idea, making everything on a net book bigger!
Wait, Asus is coming out with "laptops" now?
You are joking, correct? You know full well that Asus has been making laptops for many years and was actually one of the larger ODM's before breaking up the company into separate entities, one which includes branded notebooks?
My asus m6bne from 5 years ago is still running strong.
FYI None of the laptops show specs of 1080p displays. They are listed as 1366 x 768 and 1600*900
Yeah, that's very disappointing. The other specs looks good, and then they saddle the 16" with a WXGA display? I wouldn't want that resolution on any screen bigger than a 14". Too bad.
This is weird, my 17" ASUS F7S has a 1920x1200 screen, i don't know why the new laptops haven't got the same one. I could live with 1600x900, but 1366x768 is way too little.
17.3 inches: because 17 inches just wasn't enough.
how bout because 17.3 indicates a 16:9 ratio
Only Geforce 9400M graphics? Too bad.
Another day, another Windows notebook... get a Macbook Pro 17" laptop, it is the greenest desktop replacement notebook out there with its 8 hours of battery life. It's great and I have one.
It also costs....what, 3 times the F70? 2.5 times? They're not even in a similar class. To that end, I'd argue that the MBP is so unlike every other 17" notebook out there that comparisons between the MBP17 and other 17" Windows notebooks is irrelevant. At 3k, its the lightest and least powerful. Similarly configured/sized Windows DTRs run well under 2k, but probably lack the build quality and "exclusivity" or whatever.
Also, not everyone wants a Mac, though I will say that the new ones have excellent build.
Pleeeasssee, hahah, you Apple heads kill me. I'm sure its barely "greener" than any of the other laptops out. Like that 1 claim will just convert people to get a Mac. Like someone else said, everybody doesn't want a Mac (*see market share), not to mention they are so over priced for the same specs that are in HPs, Toshibas, and Dells of the same size. I'll stick with my new HP 17", thanks.
Sure takes more greens to afford it.
17" ships mid February dumbass...
Stupid fanboy doesn't even know what he's talking about...
Actually, I'm only getting a MacBook because they are really nice, in build and aesthetics.
Hella, I saw one maxing Gears so its good enough for me. Who wants to play Crysis anyway?
It looks a lot like my HP DV9000. Styling wise, I mean. And how do they call 1366x768 a "Full HD Resolution" screen? Last time I checked, Full HD meant 1080p.
