Hey Sony, where's the 1.6GHz VAIO P for America?
Sure, we Americans are enamored by flashy designs, but that doesn't mean we don't appreciate performance. For whatever reason, consumers in the UK, Japan and the Principality of Sealand (among other locales) can order up Sony's oh-so-cute VAIO P with a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, while we Americans can't get anything other than the stock 1.3GHz chip. So, what gives Sony? Supply chain problems? Too much haterade? None of the above?

Sony is crazy to sale a netbook for $1,333.
They're even crazier for selling it for £1,333 eh.
You are all missing it. Sony just wants to make room in your pocket for VAIO P to fit in.
How nice of them :-D
It's the exact same processor. You have to convert to metric gigahertz. Everyone knows that 1.3 US GHz = 1.6 metric GHz.
The 1.6GHz version cost 1500 euro in France and 999 euro for the low-end version...
At that price, I'll be sticking with the NC10.
It's not surprising that US is the dumping ground for Sony. They probably were going to put the 1.6GHz as standard, but intel had a clearance deal on some 1.3GHz stock, so why not dump the slower ones in the US and make profit at the same time. The Sony fanboys/girls will still buy them anyway. Sony did the same thing with their previous DAP line, only selling up to 8GB in the US while selling 16GB models outside the US.
It's "enamored of", not "enamored by". "Enamored by" doesn't make any sense. If you don't understand what a word means and how it works, don't write it, it just makes you look dumb.
Actually, "enamored by" is perfectly acceptable and used often. It seems the original poster isn't the stupid one.
No no it's 'with' >:o)
As long as you fine people keep droning on about price, I'll keep reminding you that price/performance comparisons have never been the yardstck for purchase decisions with regard to "design companies'" marketing decisions.
"perceived value" is the credo at companies like Sony and Apple. If you're writing a review that, in its essence, is a complaint about price, you can save your time and effort. The product is not meant for you. People who buy the Sony actually have the money and don't mind spending it on things they like.
Those people may or may not be stupid but their choice to buy a $1,400 netbook isn't proof either way.
To put things in perspective, do you think a Rolex gives you the time any better/faster than a Timex?
Toys is right. We shouldnt be comparing this to other netbooks like Asus and MSI we should compare it to the Macbook Air. I mean they tried to beat apple on every front. Pocketable, thinner, hell they even showed the thing in a business envelope.
Either way if this thing is offered with a 1.6 or a 1.86 processor it will undoutbly become 2x the computer it is today. Which to be honest is just an overpriced piece of junk. But a very astheticly pleasing fluid piece of junk it is.
Keep in mind sonys miserable 1st gen failures. Like the original ux. Granted nobody buys those things but its alot better now than it was when it first came out. This is something people might actually buy.
Just arrived in London from Hong Kong, electronics here in UK are expensive.... U_U
In regards to the VAIO P Series models that are carried in the United States. We wanted to make sure the balance between price and performance was fair and after rigorous testing the Intel 1.33Ghz processor seemed to be the ideal candidate.

This is why we don't get the 1.86. We Americans complain too much blada blada 899 is way overpriced blada blada. Just price out another computer with a 1600 res screen and 128 gb SSD and tell me how much it costs. Thanks a lot.
Really sad I can't buy a 1.86 here.
