HP Mini 2140 "business" netbook now available

HP's very recently announced Mini 2140 is available now for you to get one of your very own if you so please. The handsome fella's just been unleashed on the world, and if you don't remember his stats, well, that's what we're here for. The business-aimed netbook features a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, with options for either an 80GB or 160GB hard drive, up to 2GB of RAM, and resolution options of 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 567 for the 10-inch screen, and of course the ExpressCard / 54 slot. Though a Linux OS has been announced, so far all we've seen are options for XP and Vista materialize, but we'll keep our eyes peeled. Prices start at $499 for the base model, but run up to $799 for the tricked out Vista version. Now get back to work, slacker.

How dare you cover one of Dolly Parton's best features. Blasphemy!
Netbook should have been on her face.
Juggs in here, korean poon tang next post. :)
I love Dolly, her best features are her sympathy and her voice. I Also think she Is cute.
I like the Hp netbook. I want one ;)
Upon closer inspection, yes, they did indeed cover "one of" her best features.
The Mini 2140 does look happy, though, so it's all good.
Doesn't look like the hi-res screens are available yet. Then again, it's probably a mistype over at HP, since the prices don't make much sense at the moment.
Yeah, the two low-end models -- you can have this machine, or you can have this identically-specced one for $30 more. Bizarre.
But if that means that, once they get it straightened, the high res is only $30 extra... that's just plain cool.
The difference between the two lower end models is the battery, 3 and 6 cell respectively.
Looking for the high-resolution too. I will hold off buying until them. I am ready to order as soon as I see clearly which ohas the high res screen.
Ditto. Looks like the 1366 x 768 display is the "LED HD" model, and NONE of the listed units has that designation, which makes you wonder what the hell you'd be paying that $779 for. A 7200 rpm drive instead of the default 5400 rpm model, and 2GB of RAM is a $279 upgrade?
Either its a mistake, or these models are completely mispriced.
FYI:
To BUY a 7200 rpm 160GB drive on newegg would cost you $69.00. Not the price difference, the total cost.
To BUY 2GB of RAM for one of these suckers, you'd pay like $22.00.
Total price to upgrade the $499.00 model to the same specs as the $779 model... $91.00.
Amount saved... $189.00.
Seriously, come on... the price differences are even less than this. Yes I know they need margin on top of this, but...
Glad to see some country love here.
She is one of the most prolific song writers ever. Most areas of music today has used in parts are entirely here writings.
Anyway, the computer is nice too.
Don't get me wrong, I like me some old-skool country as much as the next guy, but I have _no clue_ what that fourth sentence meant.
I love me some Dolly.
Huh? What netbook?
The new girl's in town! Ladies and gentlemen, let's give her a big hand.
You might need two. Big hands, that is.
bud-dump bump, ching!
LOL at Glove's joke.
Dont forget to add around $100 bucks if you want to plug it into a monitor, its a proprietary port, and not even available yet
Actually, I think that's the Mini 1000 you're thinking of. One of the reasons I marked the 1000 off my list. My 2133 -- and the picture above of the 2140 seems to show it too -- has a VGA out port on the left side of the chassis.
Well, Glen not really check this specifications link out, it is standard VGA:

K.
Well, HP finally released the Mini-Note I wanted.
Shame it was a month after I got my Acer Aspire One...
However photoshops these masterpieces should learn about perspective.
Nice netbook book though and fantastic chesticles
oh do shut up. It's just a goof. Let me guess...you're an artiste?
you do get that it's _supposed_ to look like a Photoshop, right?
And "whoever" writes your comments should learn to spell.
ohhh bitchy comments and no vote down ? all mouth and no trousers eh guys ?
I voted you down because you're dumb.
Whoever* damn you lack-of-edit-button
no HD display options yet?
Most business laptops have a matte screen option. Come on HP, show us some love...
Okay that was awesome! Totally digging the 9-5 reference!
Does anyone know why HP uses a 10" panel that is 1024x576, when their 8.9" one is 1024x600? Who increases screen size while decreasing resolution? At least they added the 1366x xyz resolution, which is cool.
You hit it without even realizing it. They increased the screen size and resolution (1366x768 vs 1280x768), and also _added_ a low-end model to get the "starting from $499" figure, so they can compete with other, inferior-screened, netbooks.
And because nobody wants to buy the 1024x576 model when they're both available, they brought them out first to pick up sales, then they'll release the good ones later.
576 is probably a couple of $ cheaper. I'm going to wait for the HD version. No webpage is designed for such low resolution.
The 576 high isn't directly about price, it's about keeping the same 16:9 ratio as the high-res; that with the same diagonal means everything but the screen itself is common, which means lower costs for the production for the lid pieces.
Oh, and many webpages, like engadget, for example, are designed for screens as narrow as 1024px; I'm using a 1024x768 display (lame work machine) right now, and it's fine. Since I have to scroll vertically anyway, the 768 vs 576 makes little practical difference.
Even so, I'll always wait for the high-res; if not for web, then for great justice. I just can't stand the notion that I could have had 78% more pixels in the same size if only I'd waited and spent a few more bucks.
Dude, I can only assume you haven't used a netbook to browse the web for any length of time. Sure if these things were fantastically responsive to trackpoint gestures and just scrolled as smooth as silk maybe, but THEY DON'T.
i cant see the prices, HPs site just shows a bunch of different models, and half are exactly the same.
No more via chipset? Hackint0sh ftw :D
where do you see the option of either resolution ?
God I love Dora Lee!!!
With how impressed I am with W7 Beta on my tablet, I think I will wait till W7 come natively on the HP mini-note. XP would be a great option, but now that W7 has shown it's colors, its just down right obsolete.
If the most expensive config includes the SSD option and the HD display, I am sold. If the current prices are correct, adding more for HD display and SSD is a joke, I'd by a Thinkpad X200 or elitebook 2530p instead.
Serious Business.
Can anybody explain me the ultra-stupid division of customers - business vs. private - some PC vendors (HP included) employ?
Is there any "user friendly" notebook vendor which has notebook/netbook on-line shop akin that of Apple. E.g. in HP you have to go thru piles of menus before you can actually see configuration of notebook. Comparing two notebook is always hustle and is impossible for notebooks from different "product lines." That's just bogus.
I like quality of HP notebooks, but their on-line store screams "we do not want you to buy our products go away."
Talked to HP the HD display wont be available for at least 6months!
Did I get it right?
Everyone was waiting for HD 10.1-inch screens packed with 6-cell battaries and now we have nothing... Damn it!
Nothing personal towards you, but I find this info hard to believe. In six months, there will probably be an update to this line already coming out, a 2150 or somesuch.
lets hope it dnt ver heat like mines
Give me a trackpointer (forget the tiny trackpad) like the Sony Vaio P and ship with Windows 7 and I would be sold.
10" 1366 x 768 and expresscard/54 ? Wow, these netbooks are getting more tempting... Just need a new processor, whether that be low locked Core 2 LV, dual-core Atom, AMD Athlon, ARM Cortex MP or whatever...
i just bought an hp mini 1030 2gb memory upgrade $18, 16 gb sd card $10, problem solved total plus laptop $400
Really not too sure anymore. For $1,000 you can get a real laptop with C2D, 2gig memory and a real gfx card, the macbook white actually.. and it was just updated. This bad boy is just getting too close to real laptop price it seems. I'll probably buy it anyway though when the HD option is available.
I'm still waiting on the HD display and then this will make the most perfect hackintosh netbook ever. Now if only those Apple netbook rumors were true I wouldn't even have to make my own HackBook Nano.
