Dell Adamo to hit the streets in the second half of 2009?
If the "reliable source" that spoke to Digitimes is, well, reliable, it looks like Foxconn has landed the Dell Adamo gig. According to the article, the sleek and stylish device is in sample production as we speak, but won't enter volume production until the second half of 2009 -- to the tune of about 400,000 units. Of course, this flies in the face of Dell's statement at the CES unveil, where a company spokesperson said that the thing would be out in the first half of this year -- and that's not the only contradiction here, as Foxconn's Edmund Ding has stated that "he has no idea what the hell anybody is talking about." (OK, so we paraphrased that last bit).

What's hte price tag on that? $2000.
Jason Litka @ Jan 21st 2009 11:29AM
To start, probably.
sdwells @ Jan 21st 2009 12:57PM
i'm sure it will start at or below the price of the macbook air, seeing as this is almost direct competition with it.... though upgrades will easily take it past that point.
Good_Bytes @ Jan 21st 2009 1:22PM
Oh no! The Dell Latitude E6400 and the 13inch version are better machines are are under 2000$.
Funke, Tobias Dr. @ Jan 21st 2009 11:23AM
Don't remember the Adamo.
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 21st 2009 11:55AM
Me neither, and I still can't figure out why we are so fascinated with newsmaking. If we can't remember old news, we might as well just recycle them once in a while.
Decoy @ Jan 21st 2009 2:00PM
Hands up, Glove, the jokes are above the head.
Johnny @ Jan 21st 2009 11:48AM
I can't read the name without picturing Edward James Olmos, aka Admiral Adama.
entropy @ Jan 21st 2009 2:46PM
hmm... Adamo?
AdAmo -->(swap) AmAdo -->(mirror) obAmA = Obama
why is all the news about Obama nowadays?
Hannah @ Jan 21st 2009 11:48AM
It seems like it would be a bad move if they priced it above the Macbook Air, unless it's got significantly more power or more features. They didn't announce any specs at CES though ... check out this video of the press conference. It was more about the model than the device.

That screen reflection is going to be a problem.
Bahama.Llama @ Jan 21st 2009 6:26PM
Yeah, I wonder how long it will take someone at Dell to figure out the logo and deduce who leaked this. I'm also shocked I only saw one comment on it.
Rick @ Jan 21st 2009 12:02PM
Such a great looking laptop, even from Dell! It's a shame it's going to be so expensive...now if they could squeeze a decent rig into it I'd be all over that!
bobartig @ Jan 21st 2009 12:39PM
Once again, a liberal sampling of Apple inspired design. In typical Dell fashion, they take it about 85% of the way, then just shit on it with terrible details, such as the crappy hinge mechanism, and the display housing. Oh Dell, when will you learn?
Does this thing have any ports?
siman @ Jan 21st 2009 12:58PM
I agree with the hinge and the apple stealing design "Cant beat em steal there design!" but I think 15% their own design was the least they could get away with!
Tony @ Jan 21st 2009 8:03PM
I don't understand why people have to wait for Adamo because we can buy many same spec laptops as Adamo Now.
For example, Sony VAIO VGN-TT150N/B 11.1-Inch Laptop http://www.bestdealsonar.com/luxuriously-sleek-at-111-sony-vaio-vgn-tt150nb-111-inch-laptop/
It's only 2.9 lbs. Sleek desing, Thin, Small, Long life battery. Why we have to wait for Adamo? Because it's DELL ?? or what ?
Eltorro @ Jan 21st 2009 12:02PM
If only I weren't an unemployed college student, then I'd have all kinds of tech.
Bryan @ Jan 21st 2009 12:54PM
Looks like a unibody Macbook except in plastic with a Dell badge.
Must shield eyes from blinding glare!
eek!
sdwells @ Jan 21st 2009 1:08PM
its made out of aluminum not plastic...
It also comes in silver/white and looks very nice.

Jouten @ Jan 21st 2009 12:11PM
This looks familiar...Oh yeah! It looks like the Black MacBook!
finite_loop @ Jan 21st 2009 12:23PM
you're an idiot.
Steveorevo @ Jan 21st 2009 12:45PM
What are you kidding me? The MacBook is a WAY BETTER DESIGN. The hinge on this crap is like my XPS -just 'average' soon to be annoyingly loose crap. At least it doesn't have the bright lame-o color LEDs that Michael Dell's 9 year old son designed like my current model. At least is doesn't have an stupid lid lock mechanism to get caught on everything...
Eltorro @ Jan 21st 2009 12:53PM
@Steveorevo
If you think Dell is such crap then why do you buy their products??
3rdman @ Jan 21st 2009 1:25PM
Design? You do mean the style part of design, not the practical part of design, right? The Macbook has 2, count them 2! usb ports....thats just insane...and on the same side too!
Not saying the Adamo necessarily has a good design either, with many ports in the back, but atleast it comes in one complete color, black or silver. The new Macbooks are a step toward "looking like a generic laptop", with its black bezel and silver bottom.
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 21st 2009 2:39PM

Maybe he's into masochism.
Steveorevo @ Jan 21st 2009 4:59PM
@El Torro
>>If you think Dell is such crap then why do you buy their products??
Because I believe its 'good enough' to run the Windows, which is 'good enough'. Its never 'great', just good enough for the masses like yourself. If I wanted 'great' or didn't expect to throw it away after 1.8 years I'd choose something that would last longer... oh maybe something with an all aluminim body vs plastic, a hing that didn't creak, and a trackpad that wasn't made out of saran wrap, but rather glass...
get a clue....jeeez
3rdman @ Jan 21st 2009 8:48PM
@Steveorevo:
Well, atleast you answered his question, but the answer made no sense...
If its good enough, why spend more money? I have a good enough car, good enough computer, if it's good enough, dont spend more money! And then you say its godd enough for the masses like us, but you also apparently have one, hmmm.
Oh and btw, I've been using an Dell running XP for well over 5 years, and only switched now because the former wasn't "good enough" anymore.
MikeSWelch @ Jan 21st 2009 12:14PM
Is that a Dell branded MacBook?
Derry Quinn @ Jan 21st 2009 12:32PM
Haha, yeah :D
Although, it may sell some units because if the design. We'll have to see.
Alpinerover @ Jan 21st 2009 2:03PM
Exactly what I thought when I saw it.
Gio Tron @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:27AM

Where's all the whining about the shiny screen?
youngcapitalist @ Jan 21st 2009 12:40PM
Can anyone say Macbook? And judging from the fact that it's a Dell with Windows, only bad things can come from this clone.
Derek @ Jan 21st 2009 1:36PM
@Kevin
Phew, that was very subtle sarcasm, I thought it was serious for a minute.
Derek @ Jan 21st 2009 1:39PM
oops, don't mind my other comment...using 1password on Mac, went haywire.
Looks like a macbook clone to me.
GL @ Jan 21st 2009 12:41PM
Great! Just in time to get a win 7 pre-release on it.
Matthew @ Jan 21st 2009 2:27PM
Apple pie? what?
hbot @ Jan 21st 2009 12:52PM
Am i missing something? What's the fuss over the Adamo? Doesn't look too special to me.
d889 @ Jan 21st 2009 12:56PM
yeah i dont see anything too special either, i think it looks nice, i really dont understand why people say 'omg ugly!' i mean ... what the fuck are you trying to do, make a fashion statement? its a LAPTOP, you USE IT, if you want to show off then i guess buy a mac.
Stan Winsome @ Jan 21st 2009 1:04PM
I'd be a lot more excited if they called it the Dell Adama and it had Draedis.
Ed T @ Jan 21st 2009 1:15PM
Where are the stickers? The three or four stickers next to the trackpad are what make Dell laptops so special. This derivative POS might be worth $2K if they put some stickers on the right side too!
dodo @ Jan 21st 2009 1:27PM
nice shape and for sure the very first (dell & win) notebook where you do not have to be ashamed of using it and where you can proudly show it off in the public...the influence of apple finally pushed a major PC-Manufacturer to produce really nice stuff...and regarding the inner stuff i'm sure it'll be similar to the macbook air or that weird named voodoo notebook so on that side I do not have any other expectations (the connection ports I do not count)... I'm sure we'll have to pay a similar premium like we can see with the Macbook Air but thats the price if you wanna look like a handsome roadwarrior...but if you want to look like a geaky roadwarrior you still can get yourself something else...and anybody who thinks that this kid will be cheap is a dreamer in that case i just recommend you to get yourself an asus eeepc 701 !
Jash Sayani @ Jan 21st 2009 1:55PM
MacBook inspiration !
That's all I can say guys...
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 21st 2009 3:18PM
You love the sun so much, then you see a basketball: "Oh my god! This bouncy round toy is definitely inspired by the sun!", and then someone turned on the light, and you go: "oh my god! This luminous lighting equipment is undoubtedly a sun-wannabe. "
Arno @ Jan 21st 2009 2:03PM
MacBook wanna-be.
Cory @ Jan 21st 2009 7:51PM
Another Apple fanboy who thinks Apple did everything first... you really think the air was the first thin notebook?
Derry Quinn @ Jan 21st 2009 8:16PM
No, they're talking about the black border, and the keyboard and the general MacBookish look of the Adamo... it's not really thin either... I don't get how this is an "Air competitor"
flea @ Jan 21st 2009 2:40PM
second half of this year? by that time there will be a newer macbook air (or at least on its way) and no one will pay $2000 for this. At least I wouldn't.
