The 10-inch Acer Aspire One takes some beauty shots
Sure, the 10-inch Acer Aspire One isn't what you'd call classified material, but most of the leaked pictures we've seen so far have been pretty low-rent -- so this latest batch of leaked photos showing the Atom-powered netbook all gussied up for the camera might stir some deeper feelings in that cold heart of yours. It looks like we'll be getting multiple colors in addition to that new non-stupid trackpad button layout, so that's fun -- we're quite taken with the red model here. Now if Acer would just hurry up and tell us what we already know. More shots at the read link.

Wow, they fixed everything that was wrong with it. On top of having a "normal" 10 inch screen, it now has normal touch pad buttons.
Should keep Acer #1 in netbook sales depending on price.
It's an ACER, homie. Absolutely Cheap Electronics Reassured. What else do you expect?
Yes, well, homie, Acer has one of the highest reliability ratings in the industry.
And yes, homie, they have some of the best products for the money.
So yes, homie, this should keep them on top since it's a fantastic product at a good price.
Homie.
I just figured that maybe there is a little misunderstanding going on here. By "Cheap", I mean price, not the quality, I've been one of Acer's happy customers for more than a decade, literally, way before Acer gave birth to BenQ, and these two outfits both produces good products with reasonable price. Left thumb up for Acer's very portable, very affordable, very lovable Aspire One. Right thumb up for BenQ's very versatile, very purchasable, very enjoyable G series gaming LCDs...............And no! I'm not going to get that $0.65..........................I think I'll get $1.30 instead.
Bah, its still ugly, along with every other netbook, except the Vaio P...but we cant classify that as a Netbook can we :-P
The HP 2133/2140 is also pretty sweet-looking...
That Acer, not so much.
I'd have to agree with you, the Hp's do look nice, but MSI, Asus's, Acers, Lenovos, Archos's, Packard Bells, Toshibas are just huge butt ugly chunks of plastic.
I can't be the only one who thinks it looks pretty cool?
You are not Dan. It also takes membership in the rather exclusive club of netbooks with normal cutouts for the arrow keys that allows the right shift key to be normal size. I will not buy a netbook that doesn't do this, as it is the way things should be done!
Ditto. Not just the full sized right shift key either, as all the other keys seem to be in the right place, something I'm getting tired of on my Dell Mini 9.
Keyboard should have been more edge to edge of course, but its pretty close.
Hard to tell how thick it is. Looks a little chunky. But if its upgradable and has this nice keyboard and has a good price...
I'd still pay more for more vertical resolution though...
cant call the s101 ugly, thats a damn sexy (expensive) netbook
I spent some time at a Best Buy (relax.. I only go there to torment the staff) playing with the netbooks they had out: 9" Acer, HP and eee. The Acer had the best keyboard of the bunch but worst screen.. washed out and fuzzy. The HP had a lovely screen but really crap keys. The eee sorta fit in the middle. Performance on all was about the same (they were running XP).
If you're willing to accept the compromises for the portability, none are awful machines, esp with something snappier under the hood (xubuntu on my 7" eee is quite responsive).
But when you get to 10", you approach "real computer" size and I'm not sure the compromises are so acceptable, then.
Well, hopefully this will have a better screen. I went to Best Buy several months ago, and compared the netbooks, and I know what you mean. You would think that they all have very similar screens, but it really isn't true. Even though both of them are matte, one of the netbook's screens was much worse than the others. It was very stark. Unfortunately I don't remember specifically if it was the Acer with the worse screen, but if y'all go to your local Best Buy and check it out, the difference is very noticeable.
I expect, if we did a serious study, our opinions about "the best netbook on the market" would often correspond with the laptop or desktop machine we are most used to.
I find the keys on the HP 2133 far superior to those on the Acer and the eee. The "trackpad off" light comes on (without turning anything off at all) by itself, randomly, once a week or so, but it doesn't bother me.
2nd that. HP has mushy keys compared and lenovo has very solid keys compared to the rest but the screen is matte rather than glossy. Each has their pros and cons, haven't seen a netbook that can claim it's the one yet.
Put Windows 7 on it and you'll quickly change your mind. The high-res wallpapers that come preinstalled look incredibly sharp on my 8.9" AAO.
@gyffes,
I agree. I got a netbook as a companion to my larger laptop (which itself was only 14") to grab and go when I needed something miniscule. The 10" form factor may not be much larger than the 8.9", but then again, neither is my 14" laptop at my desk. Netbooks aren't designed to be primary work systems, just great complements. Keep mine small.
Although I think the Acer's screen is on par with the HP and eee. I've had mine for almost a week and the screen brightness and clarity are astounding to me at least. It far surpasses my IBM T60p's screen and it's only 2 years old.
I bought an AcerOne for my wife a couple months back. Video was kind of flakey from the get go, but I thought it was most likely a driver issue. By the time I realized it was hardware it was out of Staples very short return period so I had to deal with Acer. Even though the unit was well less than 30days old they would not cross ship a new or refurbished unit even with a credit card, and the folks in tech support were clueless and unable to do anything even slightly outside the lines. I finally got a manager to give me fedex overnight on the shipping back to me. I had set the machine up to dualboot xp/ubuntu which was a royal pain, but I had it all sorted out and working pretty well with Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Anyhow - Sent the machine in, it took them close to 10 days to repair it and then shipped it back fedex ground even though I called to doublecheck that it would indeed be coming back overnight. When I received it the repair slip says they replaced the mainboard and the LCD. Seems to me it would have been cheaper to swap it out with a new unit. They had also forgotten to snap the bezel around theLCD back into place. I got the bezel back in and it appears that they installed a different rev of the LCD which is MUCH sharper and better looking than the original or the ones on display in the store. I'm happy with that, but they had also reimaged the hard drive for no aparrent reason and now Ubuntu is gone. Bah. I certainly dont think I will be buying another Acer product. This is the first non Apple computer I have bought in 15 years. I've gotten spoiled.
I don't own an Aspire one, but it sounds like one of one-in-a-few million things cause I haven't heard of anything like that happening.
Being in the industry I can't say much good for Acer and their products over the last 10 years....but ... I love this little unit and I can't wait till they come up with a tablet version.
The original trackpad isn't honestly that bad. Plus, it keeps the shape of the netbook to a minimum.
I disagree, it was a deal breaker for me, now I want this (aspire one 10") with a 9400M, just not with that color though.
This looks a heck of a lot like my Eee PC 1000H. The specs are pretty similar as well, with the only difference I can see so far is the 3G capability.
Even so, it really can't be any worse, so it should be pretty good I think.
if it has a micosoft windows logo on it i ain't buying it. i refuse to buy a microsoft computer. i do not agree.
if it has an ubuntu logo then i'll buy a thousand of them immediately. cash on the barrel.
Asus Eeepc is the best and origin selection!!
while acer aspire one is pretty, 10-inch is nothing new.
