Viral Lenovo W700ds ad is physically difficult to watch
Hey, Lenovo: thanks for the $8-an-hour "cameraman," $10-an-hour "actress," and Oscar-caliber "plot," but the dual displays, digitizer, and RAID array are the real porn here. Of course, the suggestive music ripped off an 90s vintage Playboy DVD doesn't hurt -- mildly NSFW footage after the break.

oh god...i just threw up a little in my mouth.
that's what she said.

@alfyx:
Bravo. LOL
I did too at first, but I'm starting to like this new edgy Lenovo more and more. I'm beginning to think about buying a new thinkpad again, something that I haven't done since Lenovo took over the lineup. Maybe a T500 or something, probably not the $10m W700 with dual screens, but after this and the X300 ad that TOTALLY ripped on crapple, I'm warming up to Lenovo.
I jerked off anyway.
OneLove, TMI, my friend, TMI.
no, actually that was me. I should have warned you.
This is terrible ! How is it possible that someone gives such a commercial a go?
It really is like a porn film ..
"It really is like a porn film .."
You haven't figured out to password for the parental locks of some of those channels yet, have you ?
Ripper,
Bragging cuz you watch lots of Porn.
Only on the Internet. LOL.
"How is it possible that someone gives such a commercial a go? "
Because it has Steve Ballmer with a hairpiece in it.
... and so true-to-life. I mean hot women are always voluntarily stripping in computer hardware pissing matches. Especially for cool dudes like that guy.
This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!
I say that without any sarcasm, the ad is clearly a tongue-in-cheek fanboy fantasy come to life. Cheesey music? Check! Low-fi quality? Check! Terrible humour? Double check!.
It isn't the next Office Space of course but it is ballsy, weird and funny, and that's as good as we get in an advertising space filled with over-serious corporate spiel.
Sidenote to the fanboys: If Apple had made this you'd be all over it as an indy comic gem, don't deny.
I rather liked it, too! If only real girls were that impressed when you bragged about your new computer.
What the hell?
They should seriously never attempt something like this again. Ever.
But they did manage to throw in a "that's what she said!".
Unbelievable!
Yeah, I'll admit that I laughed at the "that's what she said" comment, I saw it coming as soon as he said "it's huge". Predictable, but funny nonetheless.
It may be the fault of The Big Bang Theory but when there are nerds with computers and hot women, I except something hilarious to happen. And was sorely disappointed when it didn't.
The that's what she said at the end was funny but in no way did it save this train-wreck of a commercial.
It hurts... my brain hurts... so... effing... much...!
The only way to make that better is if it was COMPLETELY NSFW
You wining church-goers might disagree. But us guys who don't think partially undressing of a beautiful female is a bad thing, found this "nerds wet dream" quite funny. And the actors played as good as one should on such a less than serious gig.
No.
I'm willing to admit that the idea is awesome, but the execution was horrible.
Please revisit your political ideologue before you make a semi-political statement like you did.
This commercial actually looks like it was made by church goers and the approving audience of this commercial would more likely to be church goers.
Try not to make us church abstaining non-douches look like jerks in the future. Thanks.
...make that two for "no".
@jashua -
You're assuming that the goal was to make the production value high, but clearly it wasn't. They were obviously going after the cheap porno look. And succeeded. They sure know who their target customers are.
If you need proof that Lenovo doesn't just have bad taste, check out the production value in their short film/long ad about (spoiler alert) the dead boyfriend and plastic bear.
I also just looked up how much that stupid thing costs... $6000 ?! That guy could've bought 2 Dell XPSes and like 2 hookers for that much!
Instead he gets automatic color correction, a digitizer, some slide-out screen thing and Jill's boobs.
Thats what she said.
now every time I hear "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID", I'll be reminded over and over again by this piece of shit.
Thats what she said.
Thats what she said.
Thats what she talked about
She also spoke about it.
I thought it was very clever.
"Very clever" is pushing it. It is mildly amusing, in a kind of cringe-worthy way.
Lenovo has evidently done careful research and discovered that their dominant customer demographic doesn't seem to include, uh... women.
They had such a good opportunity to play around with the stereotypical nerd image, and they completely missed it....
Wtf? My sister has the same green sweater he's wearing. I'm pretty sure I've seen it in the women's section too. This is just getting weirder..
Your sister wears fat nerds' jumpers?
....and shops in the mens section...man hands.....ewwwwww!
A "Thats what she said" joke in a "professional" commercial? That's worse than the "I'm a Mac" one..
Aah IT dream :(
I think you guys are missing the point. It's supposed to be badly executed, just like 80's porno flick. But based on the comments here, I think it failed miserably as an ad, or maybe it's just the Engadget fanboy bias. If the writer of the article would've put it in a positive light, I bet the comments would also lean that way. But nevertheless, it made it all the way to Engadget and got some attention. I probably would've never heard of this ridiculously big and expensive laptop if it weren't for you guys!
"I think you guys are missing the point. It's supposed to be badly executed, just like 80's porno flick."
Finally, somebody gets it. The bad production is what makes it funny. If it looked like a professional film (like their s10 short did), it wouldn't have been nearly as effective. Looks like Lenovo might have overestimated their target audience.
THAT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!
I'd tend to agree, but then again, concurring with Stevie Wonder's opinion of a video does feel a bit weird.
They got it! A male ad for a male product!
You know... "mine is bigger than yours... "
This is the target customer that remains on the market when all the fashion girly dudes buy a Macbook
what a load of rubbish...
Guys, stop pretending... you did love this comercial and you were expecting to see some naked action there!
worst acting ever+no real nudity= HATE
worst acting ever+ nudity= LOVE
wow, that's an ugly computer..
OMG WTF
OMG whata geekz.. pathetically ad.
Better than any Apple commercial I've seen in at least 5 years.
Well, at least they talked about their product. So, technically it's better than Microsoft's 'Seinfeld in a shoe store' thing. Unfortunately, the name of the product is so convoluted, you forget it ten seconds after it's mentioned in the ad.
I just jizzed.. in.. my pants...
The next day, my alarm goes off and I Jizzed... in... my pants.
I open the window and an breeze rolls through and I Jizzed... in... my pants.
I slid out my second-screen and I JIZZED IN [her] PANTS...
Sorry but that girl is way out of his league. No way that'd happen. That's what I said.
Granted this is a blog with reader feedback but the little commercial did it's job. You're all talking about it!
The ad is as crude and ugly as their laptops.
Take the target audience for this piece of crap and there you go, the perfect advert.
That's the BEST computer commercial EVER! I may not have any computers as fancy as that Lenovo, but I still have enough of 'em to get every hot chick at the office naked!
Kid
(Sony UX 380N, Fujitsu u810, Kohjinsha SX3, MacBook, Mac Mini)
And thanks to you too, Engadget, for the $2-an-hour "bloggers", the $1-an-hour "critics", and the Pulitzer Prize-caliber "articles".
ZING!
ZANG!
who the hell is the target audience for this thing? it seems like they just had a bunch of stuff left over from less nonsense laptops and decided "aww, what the hell, we can throw it all into one big laptop".
I hope you get a 30-minute DVD of the the 'whole show' when you buy one of these laptops. That would get some ppl buying, well until someone ripped the damn thing and put in on the net, way to spoiler the fun.
get over it, i've seen much worse commercials
it's not that bad..
That was awesome! I don't know what you haters are going on about, because it was great for a boring-business ThinkPad advertisement.
Yikes guys, calm down. I found it to be a funny video.
Hey, at least HE got laid.
1) So does that mac.
2) A 500 GB laptop... Meh, storage is cheap now days. 320 should suit you just fine, and if not, either get an external HD, or more wisely, don't get a laptop.
3) If by "integrated digitizer," he means a stylus, that Mac has got something better than a stylus: a touch pad.
4) A slide out screen... Can't imagine a single use for that. But if you insist: http://gizmodo.com/339918/apple-docking-patent-works-perfectly-with-ultra+slim-macbook
5) Huge, bulky, and far from even semi-gorgeous. I bet that nerdy idiot gets embarrassed when real co-workers, not sluts, who actually know a thing or two about computers, slide in next to him with a 17" MacBook Air and start multi-touching, 3 way video conferencing, directly transferring files, etc. You want big, then here you go: http://media.monstersandcritics.com/galleries/1098839/0127504950085.jpg
...and one last one for the wise guy, only that Mac can run all 3 major operating systems. (I'm not counting hackinstoshes, because those can just be a downright pain to build, and nor am I talking about virtualization, that's just plain slow), has a beautiful Office Suite, and hardware that you would expect to find in premium notebooks, and then some. He's jut jealous not of her, but of her computer, but doesn't want to admit that maybe someone else has something better than him.
That commercial is loaded with fail.
There's my rant. Hope you like it. If not, move along, nothing to see here.
wow.
Wow is right. That comment right there just may be the single dumbest thing I've ever read on Engadget.
For the mac fanboyish drivel, Lomoco obviously doesn't know very much about macs. 17" Macbook air? The failbus is over there. -------------------->
So she goes for $10/hour? Not a bad good deal.
Hmm, I thought that was pretty funny. It's not a commercial to be broadcast on TV, its supposed to be a funny video made to poke fun at Apple. Just like the x300 in an envelope commercial.
My pants are tight.
OK, people, be honest: this is EXACTLY what you secretly hope will happen each time you build or purchase a new desktop/laptop/whatever. Swap out the girl for a guy/goat/robot/whatever if that's your thing, but otherwise, you know it's true. Every guy who ever built a windowed case with cold cathode lights, LEDs and stealthed drives is secretly hoping that there's a woman somewhere in the universe who'll get all hot and bothered looking at it. Sad but true.
Don't pick a career as psychologist, free advise brought to you by the internet.
Hey now, let's keep the goat out of this.
Very sad..... But so very true.....
@Lomoco:

2) It's TWO HDDs laptop, either RAID0 or RAID1. Terabyte in RAID0, mirrored 500GB in RAID1, if you use 500GB drives. eSata port, too - ever saw in on the Mac?
3) By "integrated digitizer" he means built-in Wacom panel. He only shows stylus, conveniently stored in the laptop.
4) Photoshop users will routinely drag tools to this screen. Most of them.
5) Built as a tank - all Thinkpads are - reliable - not a "Hello Kitty" toy but a serious machine for serious professionals.
Software is a matter of personal preference. Both OSX and Windows have good software if one takes time to learn it.
I'm getting one as soon as they have i7 mobile edition and shit it with Windows 7.
That feebleness is beyond words.
That would make it as much a "lap-dance" as a "laptop"...
:-D
I dont know thats a pretty decent commercial...... Not the usual just girl dancing with a computer in the background....... Makes my want to buy this computer go from 3% to at least 8%......
didnt think this was so bad, made me smile. i liked the cheese, I think it was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek, and lenovo were taking the piss out of them selves. if anything is better than a company who can say "we're the best selling/biggest/etc company in the world" its a company with a sense of humour who can laugh at their selves.
nice one lenovo
and in my opinion, the super cheesey 80s porno music makes it
I thought it was neat. Back when I did RMA and tech support for a little PC wholesale company, we had this receptionist that got really hot when I droned on about tech junk on the phone with users. I know this sounds like a total fabrication, but whenever SCSI or raid came up she'd crawl up on my lap. Man, those were good times.
Cute girl+Funny+Goofy Gates/Apple ad PC guy lookalike=Win.
If you can't see the humor in that ad it's time to rethink your life choices.
That is best commercial!
haha I loved it!
I thought it was hilarious!!!
The Lenovo W700ds: This Computer Will Get You Laid
"Thats what she said." Immortal lines, spoken like a true pro.
well, never underestimate the stupity of us-americans,
and never underestimate the stupidity of a salesforce
I like the tween strip-tease linked to the related....
