Viral Lenovo W700ds ad is physically difficult to watch
Hey, Lenovo: thanks for the $8-an-hour "cameraman," $10-an-hour "actress," and Oscar-caliber "plot," but the dual displays, digitizer, and RAID array are the real porn here. Of course, the suggestive music ripped off an 90s vintage Playboy DVD doesn't hurt -- mildly NSFW footage after the break.

oh god...i just threw up a little in my mouth.
that's what she said.

@alfyx:
Bravo. LOL
I did too at first, but I'm starting to like this new edgy Lenovo more and more. I'm beginning to think about buying a new thinkpad again, something that I haven't done since Lenovo took over the lineup. Maybe a T500 or something, probably not the $10m W700 with dual screens, but after this and the X300 ad that TOTALLY ripped on crapple, I'm warming up to Lenovo.
I jerked off anyway.
OneLove, TMI, my friend, TMI.
no, actually that was me. I should have warned you.
This is terrible ! How is it possible that someone gives such a commercial a go?
It really is like a porn film ..
"It really is like a porn film .."
You haven't figured out to password for the parental locks of some of those channels yet, have you ?
Ripper,
Bragging cuz you watch lots of Porn.
Only on the Internet. LOL.
"How is it possible that someone gives such a commercial a go? "
Because it has Steve Ballmer with a hairpiece in it.
... and so true-to-life. I mean hot women are always voluntarily stripping in computer hardware pissing matches. Especially for cool dudes like that guy.
This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!
I say that without any sarcasm, the ad is clearly a tongue-in-cheek fanboy fantasy come to life. Cheesey music? Check! Low-fi quality? Check! Terrible humour? Double check!.
It isn't the next Office Space of course but it is ballsy, weird and funny, and that's as good as we get in an advertising space filled with over-serious corporate spiel.
Sidenote to the fanboys: If Apple had made this you'd be all over it as an indy comic gem, don't deny.
I rather liked it, too! If only real girls were that impressed when you bragged about your new computer.
What the hell?
They should seriously never attempt something like this again. Ever.
But they did manage to throw in a "that's what she said!".
Unbelievable!
Yeah, I'll admit that I laughed at the "that's what she said" comment, I saw it coming as soon as he said "it's huge". Predictable, but funny nonetheless.
It may be the fault of The Big Bang Theory but when there are nerds with computers and hot women, I except something hilarious to happen. And was sorely disappointed when it didn't.
The that's what she said at the end was funny but in no way did it save this train-wreck of a commercial.
It hurts... my brain hurts... so... effing... much...!
The only way to make that better is if it was COMPLETELY NSFW
You wining church-goers might disagree. But us guys who don't think partially undressing of a beautiful female is a bad thing, found this "nerds wet dream" quite funny. And the actors played as good as one should on such a less than serious gig.
No.
I'm willing to admit that the idea is awesome, but the execution was horrible.
Please revisit your political ideologue before you make a semi-political statement like you did.
This commercial actually looks like it was made by church goers and the approving audience of this commercial would more likely to be church goers.
Try not to make us church abstaining non-douches look like jerks in the future. Thanks.
...make that two for "no".
@jashua -
You're assuming that the goal was to make the production value high, but clearly it wasn't. They were obviously going after the cheap porno look. And succeeded. They sure know who their target customers are.
If you need proof that Lenovo doesn't just have bad taste, check out the production value in their short film/long ad about (spoiler alert) the dead boyfriend and plastic bear.
I also just looked up how much that stupid thing costs... $6000 ?! That guy could've bought 2 Dell XPSes and like 2 hookers for that much!
Instead he gets automatic color correction, a digitizer, some slide-out screen thing and Jill's boobs.
Thats what she said.
now every time I hear "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID", I'll be reminded over and over again by this piece of shit.
Thats what she said.
Thats what she said.
Thats what she talked about
She also spoke about it.
I thought it was very clever.
"Very clever" is pushing it. It is mildly amusing, in a kind of cringe-worthy way.
Lenovo has evidently done careful research and discovered that their dominant customer demographic doesn't seem to include, uh... women.
They had such a good opportunity to play around with the stereotypical nerd image, and they completely missed it....
Wtf? My sister has the same green sweater he's wearing. I'm pretty sure I've seen it in the women's section too. This is just getting weirder..
Your sister wears fat nerds' jumpers?
....and shops in the mens section...man hands.....ewwwwww!
A "Thats what she said" joke in a "professional" commercial? That's worse than the "I'm a Mac" one..
Aah IT dream :(
I think you guys are missing the point. It's supposed to be badly executed, just like 80's porno flick. But based on the comments here, I think it failed miserably as an ad, or maybe it's just the Engadget fanboy bias. If the writer of the article would've put it in a positive light, I bet the comments would also lean that way. But nevertheless, it made it all the way to Engadget and got some attention. I probably would've never heard of this ridiculously big and expensive laptop if it weren't for you guys!
"I think you guys are missing the point. It's supposed to be badly executed, just like 80's porno flick."
Finally, somebody gets it. The bad production is what makes it funny. If it looked like a professional film (like their s10 short did), it wouldn't have been nearly as effective. Looks like Lenovo might have overestimated their target audience.
THAT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!
I'd tend to agree, but then again, concurring with Stevie Wonder's opinion of a video does feel a bit weird.
They got it! A male ad for a male product!
You know... "mine is bigger than yours... "
This is the target customer that remains on the market when all the fashion girly dudes buy a Macbook
what a load of rubbish...
Guys, stop pretending... you did love this comercial and you were expecting to see some naked action there!
