Acer's 10-inch netbook gets model numbers, release date

The world's been waiting for details on Acer's up and coming 10-inch Aspire, and we just got 'em in our hot little hands. The Aspire One D150 lineup hits the streets of France beginning in February with the D150-0B. This €329 ($425) netbook sports a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display, and a 3-cell battery. Then in March, the D150-1B makes its appearance. An enhanced version of the D150, this device is otherwise identical, save a 6-cell battery that should be good for up to 7 hours -- the battery upgrade will set you back a cool €349 ($450). Lastly, the D150-2BG will be rocking an Intel Atom 1.66GHz N280 processor and sports integrated 3G quadband UMTS/HSDPA mobile broadband, and the 6-cell battery. Also available in March, this one has a price tag of €449 ($575). No word on a domestic street date, but you'll know as soon as we do.

Wow. Not so bad price-wise.
€320 is a damn respectable price for those specs. As much as I want a netbook, I just can't buy one. I love gadgets and computers but I don't want to become one of those people isolating themselves for society by constantly staring at the screen i.e always fiddling with either their iPhone or netbook, completely out of touch with people in their surrounding.
... and I suppose reading a gadget website is "being in touch with the people"??
@kingofwale Yes, if you read it with a friend.
Obviously I will read news if I'm a home, but as soon as I step outside the door the last thing I want to be going is glue myself to the screen of a netbook or a cellphone with internet browsing capabilities.
"but as soon as I step outside the door the last thing I want to be going is glue myself to the screen of a netbook or a cellphone with internet browsing capabilities."
Your legs probably have puddle-hopping capabilities but nobody expects you to use them all the time.
deeeeemm -- too bad that I recently bought my HTC TOUCH HD---- I could have waited and bought the new acer!!!! :D
The Acer Aspire 103(10-inch) model is already available for preorder at PCcorner at $550, but it is coming with 320GB HDD and Intel Atom N280 processor @1.66GHz clock speed.
Also, included is Intel GN40 chipset, which supports many hardware acceleration features for video playback.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about that chipset!
20 euro for the bigger battery is a bargain.
The N280 is a new one on me, doesn't seem to have been formally announced. Faster Atoms are supposed to be part of the new platform, which includes a GPU aimed at video decoding.
That's a lot of laptop for that price!
Although I was hoping for a 1280x800 screen, for all those 720p series.
The 6-cell sounds like a winner. But still, I'd rather wait for a Windows 7 multitouch netbook...
......with a dual core processor, and HDMI out, and supports 4gb RAM. Then I'll bite. Maybe next year :-)
Well I'd expect to see a dual-core Windows 7 multitouch netbook as soon as H2 2009... maybe even in the summer before the new school season... Dual-core Atoms are already commercial, and a Windows 7 netbook was demoed months ago.
I just really don't want a netbook til they start having denser screen resolutions. Nothing pisses me off more than choppy text when browsing... and isn't that the point of a NETbook?
Sounds like the current Samsung NC10.. same price too.. although the NC10 seems to have cleaner lines.
exactly. I googled it. A testimony to Samsung's poor marketing.
As far as I'm concerned, the chipset leaves a lot to be desired in the current set of netbooks.
I'm holding out for Ion, which is really where it's at, imho.
I like my Wind.
i am borrowing a 900 series and the keyboard is a deal killer. perhaps the 10" is better, but i am still leery of that size until i try it.
This a little too little too soon. The next version should have a dual core processor, windows 7, and at least a couple gigs of ram.
Screen resolutions will have to improve to at least 1024x768 before I consider one.
I'd use mine in conjunction with my NAS device to stream up music/photos/video.
No need for a powerhouse with lots of hard disk space for that sort of purpose.
Until screen quality increases, I'll stick with my Compaq Presario 2100 laptop. Dated, but obviously kills these netbooks in video performance, and most other areas.
1024x768 would be a 4:3 resolution, which is unacceptable for some reason for most manufacturers. So the next WIDESCREEN step up from 1024x600 is probably the 1280x768 on the HP 2133, or the 1366x768 on the HP 2140. However in practice it turns out that they're hard to use for people with less than perfect vision, so the appeal may be limited.
1B please, oh who am I kidding I don't have money and if I did I be getting something with better graphics.
ultimately I like having the mouse buttons on the front, and if acer keeps the pricing solid, then they should have no problem keeping the netbook crown.
Unreleated but will Engadget be putting any questioning in on Sony about giving the US the weak CPU? I've been pushing for an answer on when the 1.6 or 1.86 chip will be available with no solid answer.
the VAIO P is for girls, everyone knows that ;)
Ouch! kinda harsh... (yeah... but true)
So it has a one inch bigger screen. Hold me.
I'd get that 6-cell D150. I just hope it has an integrated bluetooth chip.
I saw specs that showed integrated bt. How fussy do you think the bt will be as far as working with headsets, etc...
I have an Acer and it is just wonderful. It can do alot for its price. It's perfect for mobility and basic laptop usage like word processors and internet connection, and for people who doesn't really need unecessary features for gaming, downloading, etc. The processor does get pretty slow though, but maybe this one is faster.
NOT a smart move consigning the N280 CPU just to their high end machine with a standard feature (3G) that most people won't want to pay for. Asus is going to cream them if they don't wise up.
Some people like to comment the size of the 10" ACER:
This is the size of a 8.9" ACER:
249 (W) x 195 (D) x 36 (H) mm (9.8 x 6.7 x 1.42 inches) for SKUs with hard disk drive and 6-cell battery pack
And This is for the 10.1" version:
260 (W) x 185 (D) x 33.4 (H) mm
To me it sounds, that the 10.1" version is only 1.1cm wider, 1 cm less in depth en 2.6 mm less in height. The weight stays at 1.3 Kg the same.
