Toshiba readies three 1080p Camileo camcorders for Europe
We can't say with any level of certainty why Toshiba chose to announce its new Camileo after CES and before CeBIT, but whatever the reason, we're sure it's a good one. Introduced today over in Germany are three new camcorders, all of which boast simple controls for the technologically challenged and easy uploading to YouTube. The whole lot captures in gorgeous 1080p, and they all feature a handy HDMI output for showing off clips as soon as you snag them. The higher-end Camileo P30 arrives with 128MB of internal storage, an SD card slot, a 3-inch LCD monitor and a 5x optical zoom; the H20 steps down to a 2.5-inch display, while the S10 remains mostly mysterious. As for the bits that matter most, the S10 and P30 will be available early next month for €149 ($197) / €199 ($263), respectively, while the H20 can be snapped up now for €249 ($329).

Looks like its made from LEGOs.
So how long does 128MB of ram last for when recording at 1080p?
How large does the SD card go upto?
Um, how is the H20 a step down if it's €50 more??
Three camcorders get released in Europe, does anybody care?
Spoiler Alert:
No.
I am from a European country and I DO care!
Believe it or not, this website is viewed by people ALL OVER THE WORLD!
OMG, its amazing i know!
Lets see...
Population of the US: 303,824,640.
Population of Europe: 731,000,000.
Simple mathematics tell me more people would care about a European release than a US release.
Spoiler Alert:
You are an idiot.
I, for one, am happy that this American blog, owned by an American media company and published in English, is doing so well in Europe. Cheers mates.
only $329.00 for a camcorder that records in 1080p?! is that possible? i mean, i can't find any "legit" cameras that records in HD for under 600 bucks. maybe i'm reading this wrong.
The canon HV30 can be had for like 550 now. I have it, I paid 700 when I got it.
I just got a Sony HDR-CX7 for less than $500. It's an awesome, tiny camera with 1080i AVCHD capture at up to 15Mbps.
Are they going to be as bad as the last ones?
I hate it when I see 1080p used on a camcorder like that information alone means anything. Is it 1080p25 or 1080p50? Because if it's the former, there is hardly anything new from a camcorder you can buy in the US that records at 1080i60 or 1080p24.
What would be a breakthrough would be 1080p60 for NTSC regions and 1080p50 for PAL regions. Temporal resolution is a must, and I'm sure a lot of people would prefer recording at 720p50 than 1080p25.
From the datasheet:
Movie Resolution:
HD1 (1080 P/30 fps) / HD2 (720 P/30 fps) / WVGA (848 x
480 / 60 fps) / VGA (30 FPS) / QVGA (30 FPS)
Still Picture Resolution:
High: 3200 x 2400 / Standard: 2592 X 1944 /
Low : 2048 x 1536
File Format: H.264/.MOV (video), JPG (still)
Battery Life:
Continue Operating Hours (with LCD on), Approx. 105 min
Video Recording vs. Capacity – MPEG4:
1GB SD: HD ready (1080p) = 15 min; HD (720p) = 30 min;
WVGA = 25 min; VGA = 1 hour; QVGA = 4 hours;
Image Sensor: 5 MP CMOS Sensor
Lens: 5x Optical Zoom Lens – 8G3P (f = 6.8 34 mm; F3.5 3.7)

Hopefully it's better than their H10 (which I would file under the category Crapgadget)...

Yay, Ashens!
Are these actually Toshiba products, or are they cheap Chinese OEM products like the H10 was?
Hmmm cheap Chinese camera??? You tell me.

oh god i just checked that link, it has the exact same shell =/ oh well
karma, karma, karma, karma, karma Camileo...
Fukkenlol'd
Wow. HD is becoming really cheap now. Two years ago I really wanted the Canon Powershot TX1 and Sanyo Xacti which I thought were cheap for HD pocket camcorders at $700-900 (still expensive since I'll only be using it for video). The $300 price tag should suffice for us commoners looking to make home movies.
Ummmm, Nothing is interesting anymore after VPC-HD2000 1080p 60fps only $600 I've owned 2 Sanyo camcorder before.
I'll put money on it that:
1) These aren't produced/designed buy Toshiba
2) Made by some Chinese Company
3) Aren't true 1080P but are the 1440x1080 format
4) Will be seeing the same camera from other companies with various names on it for a hundred or so cheaper in the near future....
where can i purchase the cameras?
