Wow, has it really been almost a year since Acer's
Ferrari 1100 ultraportable was released from the garage? Believe it or not, the proper successor to the aforesaid machine is just now getting its inspection sticker, and it's apparently planning to hit the streets of Britain in the near future. The Ferrari 1200 arrives with an elegant LED-backlit 12.1-inch panel, a carbon fiber cover, a unique ventilation design that "echoes the exhaust pipes of F1 cars" and an "anodized-metal touchpad that resembles the brake and acceleration pedals of a Ferrari car." Corny? Sure, but it's good to know you aren't paying a premium for a logo and nothing more, right? At any rate, you'll also find a bundled BT wireless mouse, an optional Xpress VoIP phone, WiFi module, an AMD Turion X2 Ultra CPU, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a SATA HDD and a fingerprint reader for good measure. Mum's the word on pricing / availability, but we'd bank on "expensive" and "soon."
not a macbook: Failed!
Least useful comment.
You're not a macbook either...
He's also not a laptop.....I hope...(^_^)
But it looks like a G3 powerbook!
Steve what does it not being a macbook have to do with the fact that you failed ?
He must be an escaped OCD mental case from http://www.f2bb.com. They usually try to keep them on lockdown over there.
isn't there a website where mac people can post comments like this? if so, why do we see this all the time?
Wait.. so whenever the fan comes on it sounds like a little bitty ferrari? Wouldnt that get annoying?
Vroom! Vroom!
No, but the sound of the fan will remind you every day about how much money you wasted on the overheating, underpowered, low-battery life piece of luxurious c*** you bought.
Just call it the "crying noise"
Cue Acer job cuts in "Ferrari" subsection in 3... 2... 1...
Doubtful, sip. It more likely has exhaust "channels" of some kind and maybe some fancy exhaust ports in the back.
Engadget....I clearly clicked the "reply" button. I'm going to have a talk with your mother about this.
Hope this one has also a full size IEEE 1394 Port.
Optical Drive no longer bundled?
And a non Ferrari-Edition would also be nice, so you can use this for serious stuff without hesitation...
Ugh... Another piece of Ferrari branded merchandise released by Acer.. You'd think they'd learn the first 2 times..
I agree i was so close to getting their ferrari monitor a few years ago but the logo is all that stopped me.
Out of a Ferrari I get two things - style and power. Given that Intels current chips are beating AMDs ones hands down and that the laptop looks as ordinary as any other - this laptop fails to have style or power. Given that this laptop sells for a premium, putting a lower powered (and priced) AMD CPU means they end up with more profit over a more powerful yet more expensive Intel one.
The very first Acer Ferrari laptop was good - great style and spec for the time, but every version since then gets considerably worse. It's like they don't even make the effort anymore.
Agreed. I've had two AMD processors die on me. I'll never buy AMD again.
Ferrari
AMD
wat
Acer and AMD are major sponsors to the Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team
Maybe these Ferrari exhaust pipes will conform the the FIA regulations!
Nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk!
Nice one!
I was given an Acer Ferrari 4500 in payment for a job a few years ago. It's still going strong, running CAD and games with no bother. I'm not a Ferrari fan, but my laptop is excellent quality (though I got tired years ago of people asking me if came free with the car..ha bleedin' ha)
I would have upgraded to the 5000 but they moved the exhaust vent to the right side, and I didn't want my mouse hand to become the equivalent of piece of medium rare cooked beef.
Anyway, if this little feller doesn't have that problem I would certainly consider it.
If Acer looked at Ferrari F1 for inspiration, that'd mean this laptop will perform well at first then sort of half-ass its way towards the end.
Am I the only one that thinks car-branded computers are a stupid idea? What does Ferrari have to do with PCs? It's like selling a Boeing TV set, or a Toshiba sofa, all respectable brands, but what's the point if they're not affiliated with the products?
I agree unless theyre going after the same market as the ferrari beds.
Racing is all about the best technology. Do you think they use an abacus to optimize engines and track performance???
One of the most reliable machines ever. 27 months with my Ferrari 1000 and still going strong!
Had its very first visit to the service center last month with a USB controller failure, but these laptops come with a 3 year warranty STANDARD so I was fully covered.
Yes, the keyboard is cramped to the max but there's nothing a nice external keyboard won't do. And the machine does run hot at times, but using my brother's M1330 gives me some respite.
If these drop to, say 1.3kg (mine touches 1.8) I definitely won't mind upgrading.
what if Acer designed a laptop after a lambo.... wait. nvm.....
I still have an older Ferrari 4000 model and it was actually a great computer for what it was. The included Bluetooth mouse, though, was one of the worst things I have ever used. It was the heaviest mouse in the world. Not very Ferrari-like.
So, basically it's a dark Macbook?
