Screen Grabs: OQO Model 2+ makes lunchtime appearance on 'Lie To Me'
Screen grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.
Oh Brendan Hines, you're so dreamy with that scruffy beard, curly hair that just can't be tamed, and propensity to whip out random gadgets at inappropriate times on Lie to Me. In the last episode Brendan's character Eli Loker was waving OQO's Model 2+ around at lunch like a wine list, the MID playing the role of voice stress analyzer, helping the team identify whether a reclusive witness was telling the truth. No word on whether OQO plans on including such insightful software with the device when it comes to market, but we'd be telling a lie if we said we thought it would.
Update: Andrew commented to let us know the software running here is called GoldWave, which may or may not help you identify someone being untruthful, but does generate some impressive-looking 3D visuals and can be yours for $45.

That's so cool how I spotted this before engadget did! Ya'll should hire me seriously, I'll be engadget's official "Lie to Me television show analyst". They all use macs in their home office. I'm sure if Apple had a netbook they would have used that in place of the OQO. The only thing intel about the OQO is the processor.
I saw the show, how can you tell its model 2+? just asking.
P. S. I really like Tim Roth, but that show is sucking badly.
@OneLove
I was thinking the same, I haven't seen the episode and it would be a tad hard to make out the 02 vs. 2+ from a TV screen I'd believe.
However if there was any shots showing the touch screen being used without any stylus that would be a giveaway :)
I guess if he used his fingers on the touchscreen, but I don't recall that.
Just watched it on hulu , It doesn't have atom inside sticker. Its a conspiracy.
(video starts at 16:40 timstamp)

i really like tim roth too, but so far i'm really liking the show
I'd like it better if it wasn't on against Lost so i didn't have to watch it on Hulu
I have no qualms with Hulu (i actually think it's awesome), but it's hard to watch streaming video, even standard def, on 768k :(
I wanna say I also saw a Harmony Remote (maybe 890?) in this same episode where the army chicks start watching the interogation video.
But there not using the Harmony as a Missile Control Gadget or something that can read brainwaves - they used it exactly like it was supposed to be used. Except the mysterious lack of any sort of status or taskbar on the screen when they froze and resumed the video.
voice stress analyzer? the best way to figure out the truth is still a magic eight-ball
> The only thing intel about the OQO is the processor
Actually the Model 2 has a Via processor, not an Intel, and yeah, it's otherwise very apple-like, except one key detail- the noise level. The fan whine can be very frustrating and no solution I'm aware of (or change in the upcoming OQO, from what reviewers are saying). Other than that a great well-designed device.
I wonder if you could hear the fan whine in the TV show!
@Dave
If it's the new Model2+ then it's an Intel Atom.
Dave Haupert,
I am not sure which model you are talking about with your "the Model 2" statement but here's the facts:
OQO 02: 1.6GHz VIA C7M ULV (also available with 1.5GHz and 1.2GHz)
http://www.oqo.com/products/model02/specifications.html
OQO 2+: 1.86GHz Intel® Atom™ Z540 (also available with 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Z520):
http://www.oqo.com/products/model2+/specifications.html
I was referring to the fact that it was a model 2 not a 2+. Guess it's not a fact, but the fact that the 2+ is not yet shipping (until May 09), and there would be no incentive for OQO to send one of their precious few review units out to show on TV where only geeks like us will notice the difference, and that the TV show was filmed months ago (post production alone takes usually 6+ weeks and since this is their second episode, it was likely ordered almost immediately after approval of the pilot). Oh, and you can see the arrows for the capacitive touch scrollers when you watch the show. Those are no longer present on the 2+.
Hope that clarifies that it was not an 'Intel inside' unit!
The software that they're using in the clip is Goldwave. http://www.goldwave.com/
Man, classic software... I used it quite often when it was first released, in the prehistoric era of computing that is the early to mid 90's.
I was watching the episode but I didn't notice that.
Great show though.
Actually, GoldWave is just an audio editor; the display is a rendition of the sound spectrum. Definitely cool graphics.
Gold Wave is surprisingly really good. I've used it in the near past.
Cool! I'm sending in an incriminating pic of the Police Commish waving his dick in public.
Give me a few minutes and he'll be fondling a child in it, too!
How embarrassing! I tried to log in to say that the OQO 2+ has an indentation in the bezel and no touchstrips on the right side and the bottom, distinguishing it from the OQO 02 (the second picture shows this).
Instead, I somehow had saved my last Engadget post and accidentally resent that to this article when I logged in. I claim that it was funny in its original context but please feel free to berate me for it here.
wha?
Personally, I much prefer Kelli Williams' software.
