Video: Moblin finds a home with the Samsung NC10

Now that Moblin is out in all of its alpha release glory, we've been preparing ourselves mentally and physically for the flood of videos we're sure to receive as folks start installing the OS all over the place. For our inaugural Moblin Movie, the kids over at Laptop Magazine have got it happily running on a Samsung NC10 and -- despite booting off a USB thumb drive -- the speed of the thing is pretty impressive. WiFi and ethernet did their thing with minimal effort, the mouse and trackpad worked like a charm, and all in all things look swingin'. But don't take our word for it -- catch the video after the break.

Under 25 Seconds on a USB key ? Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Wonder how fast it would be on the SSD drive itself :D
Pretty darn quick. See the computer on the left in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnSM6oTsqTY
i'm in love with stacy's mom
Its just to bad that this OS won't work on any systems without SSE3 :(
"too bad"
My Q6600 will be pleased with this then
stacys mom is hot when she is using her samsung nc10 running moblin alpha alpha while sunbathing nude by the pool
Don't go to this site. It's well known for viruses.
STAY AWAY
A low end optimised incarnation tweak of Linux is hardly new. But you read it on engadget, it says "Intel Moblin" and it sounds special right...?
I'm all excited for a new netbook os, but that review left a bit to be desired. To sum up "It Boots! Now let's give an overview of how to use XFCE!" And it is meant for Intel Atom netbooks, not just intel.
What's the deal with all these "netbook optimized" OS'es? WinXP runs just fine. The only thing that needs to be "optimized" in regards to any netbook OS IMO is automatically resizing windows to the 600px screen height. Why is everyone trying to reinvent the wheel?
1. XP is not Free
2. XP does not run well on all netbooks. For instance the 8 gig Acer Aspire One.
3. XP is not the answer to life, the universe, and everything. That's 42. XP isn't as great as it is made out to be.
If your computer is cheap enough that even the discounted bulk OEM license cost for Windows XP is a significant fraction of the price, you need to look at other options. Linux is free, so it's an obvious contender.
The disadvantages of Linux are that it doesn't run Windows software and that the interface is shit (or at least patchy - i.e. it's good some of the time but then whoops! an unexpected task requires you to do something humungously complicated). The first isn't a problem on netbooks because they're not your main computer, so you don't need to be able to run every application under the sun. The second is why companies, including Intel, are building simplified Linux distributions for the purpose - and again, because netbooks don't require complex functionality, this is less of a problem.
So there are two reasons why Linux is important on netbooks. First because they are more price-sensitive; second because the disadvantages of Linux are less significant.
And it's not just about disadvantages. Moblin so far achieves 8 second boot on some netbooks and they're aiming for 5 seconds by the official release. How long does XP take to boot?
I'm disappointed that they didn't include the move networks player in this alpha... I was hoping to rip it out for my Ubuntu installs :)
This is Microsoft's nightmare!!!
