The 10.1-inch
Acer Aspire One D150 has found its way onto Amazon and J&R's websites and is now available for pre-order in blue and black color options, respectively. This version's got the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 6-cell battery, with no word on the 3-cell or 1.66GHz N280 variants. Asking price is three Benjamins and an Ulysses S. Grant, or $350 if you're not into presidential pricing nomenclature. Additionally, the fine folks at
netbooknews.de that gave us
unboxing photos this week have a video hands-on of the laptop. High expectations from the
market leader apparently turned into low marks for the glossy display, small trackpad, and a keyboard that's "separated by universes" -- and not in a good way -- when compared to the
Samsung NC10. Further testing is expected later this week, check out the video after the break.

Please don't tell me he just said "huge" like Soulja Boy at 1:24.
He went there.
we also said it was a "wheel competitor" - Do they have an off-road edition?
It's a Macbook Wheel competitor actually.
that German guy has made my day, i for one, bloody love German accents, especially when reviewing technology.
makes me think of Count Ferdinand shouting "go, go my pretties!" at an army of zepplins slowly churning overhead.
i just can't get rid of it but i am glad some people at least think it's a little bit funny... believe me i am getting comments on my accent that are worse ;)
hahaha....I agree. I love German accents, they are so funny sounding..
Wow they just slaughtered the first 6 comments.
Yeah, well the Acer is separated by universes from the Samsung when it comes to price too. Once you cross the $450 mark, it's no longer a netbook, it's a cheapo sub-notebook. Also, most laptops are getting glossy screens, so it's just something that gadget users are going to have to deal with. I wonder if he wishes they'd make a matte-finish iPhone just for him. But WTF, Acer? No brown? For shame. At least I've got my AAO-150 in Brown.
Laptops are getting glossy screens because they look better to customers in a brightly-lit shop. Simple as that.
I personally like them, but ofc the sun never shines upon the British Isles, so I've never had to deal with glare. :P
I assume you mean Sumsang?
"Also, most laptops are getting glossy screens, so it's just something that gadget users are going to have to deal with."
Yes, because we're helpless, spineless servants of vendors.
Grow a nut and demand better. Because of people like you, the rest of us are stuck with crap.
Agreed. Hell, If its more than $300 I don't consider it a netbook.
This is a recession bitches! $299 is the new magic number
Did it ever occur to you that some people like glossy screens? They're easier to clean and transmit brightness a lot better. Unless you're dealing with a color-calibrated professional screen (which you're NOT going to find on a netbook).
But you're right, Information Central. We should demand better. I've just grown a nut. Let's pile burning tires outside of Fry's and Best Buy and scream for our right to 1990s era displays. If the Everex Cloudbook (which I was glad to be rid of for my new AAO) could have a matte screen, by golly the Chinese should listen to our consumer demands. And if they don't give in, why...why we just won't enjoy any new gadgets until they listen! That'll teach 'em. Who's with me and Information Central? Let's stop buying gadgets with glossy screens and maybe they'll feel the hurt in Taipei and Shenzhen and retool all their manufacturing processes to finally see the wisdom of Information Central's vision. After all, the consumer is always right!
You've opened my eyes and truly affected my purchase decisions in the future. After all, I'd hate to be someone who's holding back progress and technology. People on the gadget blogs might not like me because of the things I buy.
At this point, you might as well hold out for the Eee 1000HE PC. Better specs at a similar price.
OK well even though I'm (pretty much) an Apple guy, this price does make me sit up and take notice. This would have saved me $600 over the refurbished Macbook we bought.....
I have the older Aspire One. Believe me, if you own a Macbook, you aren't missing anything. The machine is noisy, drops the wifi connection every 15 minutes (have to reboot to get it back), and XP is a hoary, nagging POS. Looks like Acer did manage to fix the tard-o trackpad button layout this go around - woohoo!
What Ed T said is completely untrue. The Acer Aspire One is silent compared to most computers (currently typing on a MacBook Pro which sounds like it is taking off into outer space). The wireless card is amazing, once again better than my previous dell computer and the current MacBook Pro, and I am not going to start on Windows, but if it is so bad, get your favorite distro of Linux. In all honesty, the Acer Aspire One is a great deal when considering it is a small, inexpensive computer. It can do most of your daily tasks, if not all, and I completely recommend it. The only short coming are the speakers, but you did not buy the computer for great speakers (hopefully).
"XP is a hoary, nagging POS."
WTF are you talking about?
Oh no you didn't...

Wut? Are you actually advertising Google!?
no the original comment to which he was replying got deleted for spamming.
Engadget seem strangely big-brotherish today, morning after the night before?
Ok thats nice...
importuner, he asked a question, i answered.
GFY
Spamming sites with Google = My new hobby
" Nice product,
If you like this you might like http://www.google.com "
Ummm...seriously? Atom N270? Does that mean that *gasp* this plain-looking netbook has the EXACT SAME processor that is in almost EVERY other netbook today? I fail to see why this is engadget-worthy.
What is going on?! This comment section doesn't make any sense at all! None of the rpelies are related to other comments and it's just like random as hell. Please tell me I'm not just really high, because this doesn't make any sense to me, I am really confused.
Yeah, I memorized all of the faces on money after my uncle said he'd give me a 100 dollar bill if I told him who's beautiful mug was on the front when I was 10. I lost.
It still haunts me to this day.
Still won't buy Acer. Low cost, cheap build, poor value.
I've yet to see anything to change my mind.
Anyone know if its a different wifi card than in the A150 ? Because that one was terrible. This might be my TR2A replacement..
Ah, the Vaio TR series, the first of Vaio's T series and still one of the best looking compared to the T, TX, TZ, TT. : )
@Markarian,
The NC10 is still a netbook and first of all, i wasn't really looking at the price (and believe me this early version was quite expensive and cost me over $500 on the streets of Taipei) but just the manufacturing quality which is not great at all.
The first generation of the Aspire One felt way better and it had his own style. The D150 is kinda boring and just feels cheap
It's really sad to hear that the new AAO is not as good as the 150. And the wireless card is a big issue. The Atheros card that came with my AAO150 was so bad that I had to replace it. It would not maintain an ad-hoc connection with my iPhone (needed for tethering at work where I have no internet) and just kept cutting out. I took the AAO apart and added an Intel card which works beautifully and maxed out the RAM to 1.5GB while I had it open. Runs Vista Ultimate without breaking a sweat.
People can say what they will about the AAO, but it's very fast for a Netbook, due to its having a full-sized laptop SATA drive. A lot of people don't realize that the AAO comes with such a generous amount of storage for the price.
What is it with vendors not understanding the purpose of model numbers anymore? You don't make an "Aspire One" and then come out with another "Aspire One". The next one is the "Aspire Two", and so on.
Have people gotten that dumb?
I wish people would boycott the stupid single-core Atom processor... For god sakes, at least stick in a dual-core ATOM, PentiumM/celeronM or AMD Neo...
I have the original Acer One, and I absolutely love the thing. I carry my big Dell XPS gaming laptop around with me all the time, but I also carry my little Aspire One in a tiny little backpack. The Acer is perfect for when I'm on the go and I just want to check Engadget, Facebook, or my email. It's been a perfect addition to the family. I've not had a single issue with hardware or software in the couple of months I've been playing with this thing. Now all my friends are wanting one after playing with my Aspire One.
Compared to the other 10"ers, the price tag of this one is very good and especially for a 6-cells.
thats *A* Ulysses S Grant!!
Not "An" Ullysses...
get your grammar correct.
Now *THAT ' S* just being picky.
