First hands-on with the HTC Touch Diamond2 (with video!)
While HTC's press didn't deliver on our Android dreams -- or electric sheep -- it did land us the new Touch Diamond2. First off, this set is a stunner, build quality and feel in your hand is really a quality affair. The material choices in both metal and plastics used here are really first rate -- we gush because we're rather impressed. The screen is bright, easy to read and the UI overhaul -- and new features underneath -- are much appreciated. One standout in the new improved UI has to be the start menu which, when clicked, pops you into a full screen shortcut list which is miles better to surf through with a finger. All in all? We're impressed with the Touch Diamond2 and though it's not a wildly new device, it is worth peeking at if you're lost in the decision making process for a new Windows Mobile phone. Follow on for some video action.

Damn, this device looks awesome. My only complaint is a lack of a physical keyboard.
I saw the Touch Pro II, but to be honest, this device looks much more appealing (sleeker, smaller, etc.)
Still no flash? I don't care how many MP it has. If you don't have a flash, the picture doesn't come out good 90% of the time.
when does this come out to buy in the uk?
I'm a bit disappointed that the Touch Diamond 2 and the Touch Pro 2 are two different phones. There are four features that I really like that are shared between the two. A 3.6in screen and hard QWERTY keyboard is on the Pro, while the 5MP camera and sleek sexy looks go to the Diamond. Honestly, I dislike the rounded looks of the Pro, and may [possibly] make myself live without having a hard keyboard. I'm sure the HD has even more features that these two are leaving out. Wouldn't it be amazing if HTC just combined all three phones into one?

All I can say is SW-E-E-E-E-T!!!!
It certainly makes sense to do ones homework rather than making purchases based on impulse buying.
I have been receiving e-mails from a mobile service reseller informing me that my 2-year service agreement is soon about to end. They provided me with a list of many cell phones I’m eligible for free. I was weighing between the Blackberry Storm, HTC Fuze, and the Blackberry Bold.
As usual, I was curious to learn what was going on with Windows Mobile and what else that is out there as far as cell phones before committing myself to another 2-year service agreement.
I Google for “Windows Mobile 6.5” that led me to a Microsoft website showing Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer. Behind him was a billboard size photo of a cell phone that caught my attention. I went to HTC's website to discover that it is a HTC Diamond 2!!
I was salivating all night!!!! This could be possibly the iPhone killer. I was ecstatic to learn that it currently had Windows Mobile 6.5 and is upgradable to Windows Mobile 7 (slated to be out next year). The size of the screen for the HTC Diamond 2 is awesome and the resolution is amazing!!!! And having a 5 MP built-in camera is more sweet!!!! Learning more and more about this powerhouse mobile phone got me hooked!!!
Since I’m a multimedia and business application intensive user, the HTC Diamond 2 is fully compatible with the Windows Mobile Office (Word, Excel, etc,) and particularly, MS OneNote which I use for storing financial information that easily synchronizes with MS Office and my Outlook and contact files.
The unfortunate thing is that it won’t be out until early Summer of ’09. One website claims that it should be available around Mid April ’09. It definitely worth waiting and I’m checking HTC’s website every flipping, flapping, frigging day.
I like the soft QWERTY touch capable layout since I intensively text between my wife and my in-laws and business friends. The Blackberry Storm sounds, at the time, a very good contender, but I needed a Mobile OS that will be fully compatible with many of the synchronization activities I perform daily for my contacts, appointments, reminders, using MS Mobile Office.
I’m hoping that HTC Diamond 2 is compatible with Zune DRM subscription music. I understand that Zune’s subscription service will be more compatible with a wide range of other mobile phones. I’m hoping that HTC’s Diamond 2 will be in the forefront of this. If not, do big deal, I'm enjoying my Zune 80.
Thanks Engadget for being on top of new technological developments. Am I still salivating? Hell, yeah!!! I’ll be waiting patiently when it is released. KUDOS to HTC!!!
Engadget, I'll be looking forward to reading your in-depth review when it comes out.
the touch diamond pro2 would have been nice a year ago. I am getting a tg01. it is better in every way especially the part about it not being made by htc. I will never buy from them again after teasing me with pics and specs on the hd and then not bringing it to the us
