LG Arena KM900 hands-on with video interface tour
We've been waiting to get our grubby mitts on the LG Arena KM900 and try out the S-Class 3D UI for ourselves, and well -- it's a nice featurephone interface, but it's not exactly revolutionary. The widget interface is nice, and we're into the picture-based contacts screen, but the icon-based home screen just feels cluttered, especially when viewed in the expanded horizontal orientation. It'll be interesting to see how LG refines these elements in its upcoming onslaught of Windows Mobile phones -- we wouldn't drop back to a featurephone for this stuff, but we'd be plenty interested in seeing more phones like the GM730 with this interface. Video after the break!

i thought engadget mobile was separate from the main site?
They are, but there are times when their coverages cross over. Right now is a perfect example. Didn't you read the post about all the mobile info on Engadget?
They didn't read it or they wouldn't have made the insipid comment.
-or maybe they would have anyway. -it's a downward curve.
Now to hand it over to those crazy Russians for them to do their "testing" on...
In Soviet Russia, phone test you...
The bottom four icons of the interface look really familiar... it's like they're trying to compete with some other phone... I just can't quite put my finger on it
ya, looks like palm OS.
> ...ya, looks like palm OS.
Looks like a Pre killer...lol!
wish they'd show the keyboard on this. this looks like a really solid phone, especially with the 5 mp camera which one ups the pre. I will probably still get the pre though since it has a physical keyboard. i cannot stand virtual keyboards...i'm just not good on them.
it looks like the s-class interface runs a lot smoother here than on the gm730, is it because of windows mobile?
wow LG. u really wows me.
the interface is so intuitive. the icons looks so nice to me.
the phone is so beautiful. the S-Class 3D interface is really innovative.
thanks LG for this device. it's so classy.
seriously.
It looks nice but to me it looks far less intuitive than what WebOS has to offer. There are so many carousels of icons I think it will get a little cumbersome with extended use. The contacts, for instance, look cool as the whiz by but often times it it much more effective to have them in a simple list and also be able to start typing a name and have it come up that way.
Just my two cents... Looks nice, but I think less productive and intuitive than other mobile OSes we have seen recently. Look like a killer multimedia phone though. So for some who are willing to sacrifice productivity and ease of use I think it will be a hit.
Plain and simple, this is weak!
this guy sounds like he has a pipe up his butt
They lost me on scrolling and transitions. Seems to be pretty hard copying the important stuff.
This phone looks awesome. I'm glad I've been holding out for a new phone. I've been stuck using a Moto Razr after my HTC 8125's battery kicked the bucket.
I've been waiting for a decent touch screen phone to come out and the initial HTC's didn't wow me too much. I liked touchflow, but things seemed to small too much. I guess after playing with the iphone I got a little spoiled. So now all I need to do is make sure any phone I get has exchange access which most higher end phones do.
All windows mobile phones have exchange support as it is a Microsoft technology.
They lost me on 'Proprietary Software'.
This phone looks really good, hoping it can deliver like its looks do. This kills all the other non-fruit branded phones out there from the jump.
Any idea of a release date or eta to know?
Good job. They managed to rip off just both the Omnia and the iPhone.
Damn, this is just another copy of other good OSes, except the thing that it is really laggy and and not useful at all, ibet you need like 20 to 30 seconds (or maybe even more) to call someone from your contact list.. my opinion: it sucks!
hey! i really like this phone. I kind of scared for the iphone lol. There is SOOO much really GOOD competition out there now!!
Bring it on! I am loving this. I really wish I was with the engadget team covering mobile world congress in Barcelona.....
how coool
