Gigabyte shows off 10-inch M1028 convertible netbook
If you thought Gigabyte's M912 mini convertible tablet was hot stuff, get a load of this. Expected to be officially unveiled at CeBIT, the company just couldn't resist bringing along a M1028 demo unit to MWC in order to mix things up. Reportedly, the swivel-screen netbook was equipped with a comparatively roomy 10-inch display (1,024 x 600), and packed within was a standard issue Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth, WiFi, Ethernet, optional WWAN module, an SD card slot, ExpressCard, VGA output, a trio of USB ports, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and Windows XP Home. We ought to hear (and see) more when we land at CeBIT in just under a fortnight, but for now, you can see a Gigabyte-approved "sneak peek" vid just after the break.

Is that video for real? "Hi, lets take a look at this picture board!"
Does this unit have a Resistive screen or a Capacitive screen on it? Is it a pressure sensitive screen? Tablets are kinda useless for us drawing 'n such if it can't detect how hard you're pressing down on the screen. :(
I am willing to bet it lacks an active digitizer like everything
Err, capacitive wouldn't be able to use a stylus anyway, so what's the point? And yeah, this probably lacks an active digitizer because it's a netbook so it's kind of useless IMO. My tablet has passive and active digitizers and if you try to write with something other than the stylus if something else touches the screen it makes a huge slash across the screen. Same thing happens with the DS. Active digitizer or bust.
That video seems very like a Dharma video from lost....
WANT.
That is all.
SWEET MOMENTS. there isnt a better promise to go along with technology.
if this is < $500, I could see getting one of these. A tablet netbook would be sweet to lug around.
If its over $550, like the last one was (I believe a ridiculous $699), its a loss. You can get much better refurbished ACTUAL tablets, not just a netbook with a touchscreen, for around that same price range. For example, the HP 2710p, one of the top tablets, refurbished for $599. That one only has the active digitizer and no touch, so you could also go with the capacitive touch Dell XT starting at $790 (though there's often a 20% off coupon to make that $630).
I realize that the size is a huge advantage of netbooks, but a 10" device isn't all that much smaller than a 12", and the 2710p and the XT are two of the slimmest tablets out there.
You can't in the UK. Noone seems to be interested in affordable tablets here. :(
It seems like using the [less than sign] cuts off your comments. That is weird. That was supposed to be "everything less than 12.1"
Haha, that is the weakest "Sneak Peek" ever! Cardboard Powerpoint isn't exactly making the money fly from my pockets. Maybe he can get one of those Papercraft guys to make a scale model of the netbook he DOESN'T have to demonstrate?
xp home on a tablet = why? Tablet functionality on W7 is great. Even's Vista's handwriting recognition was leaps and bounds ahead of XP Tablet. If I (and many others) can get it working great on a 4 year old TC1100, Im sure gigabyte can sort something out too. Tablet users would love to see a tablet optimised Android build one day, but I think that's a while away
