We're not sure what sort of shenanigans
ARM gets up to, but it managed to amass itself quite the interesting collection of netbooks for its MWC booth. Information was scant, but they were showing that
Freescale i.MX-based Pegatron netbook and nettop
we saw at CES, an ultrawide 11.1-inch Snapdragon-based netbook from
Wistron, a Snapdragon-based convertible tablet netbook from Inventec Alaska, and a totally odd "tech demo" of a Qualcomm-based Wistron MID semi-running a sketch version of Windows Mobile 6.5. Most all of the systems were in some level of prototype form, and seemed unbearably slow at running whatever prototype flavor of Linux they happened to have, while the MID didn't really seem to operate at all, at least to our touch. Still, it's clear that Snapdragon and Freescale i.MX are allowing for some pretty wild and thin form factors while still rocking decent battery life.
the one on the top left looks like a sony p!!
probably much cheaper though

I'm sure if I threw a 6502 processor in there it would be GREAT battery life! But it helps to actually run things at a usable speed!
IT really depends on what chips they are using and the optimization...
A lower-clocked (single core) cortex-A8 would be slow, while a 1.0Ghz dual-core Cortex-A9 is easily as fast as a 1.6Ghz single-core Atom..
@loosely: however, dual-cortex A9s don't appear to actually exist yet (in real products), which is a bit of a downer.
cool
Its amazing how much that sony 'P' styled thing looks like a MacBook Air re-envisioned as a netbook. I mean really! Other than the profile shots, where you see how thick and unstylized it is from the side, those top shots really look nice - It wouldnt be crazy to image it thinner with less fat keys bearing the MacBook Air name!
Wow...the 'netbook' which seems to be the Vaio P-clone is named Wistron P/Book.
is it just me or does it seem like they hired some random guy off the street the day before, handed him a brochure and told him to demo all their tech?
the guy really didnt seem like he knew what he's doing...
When I see the grey.silver one with the black keyboard I can't help but think..
"My First MacBook ... for kids!"
I have a Vaio SR. It is silver, and has black keys, which are also isolated. It looks as much like a Macbook as a gamecube.
The convertible tablet one looks handy, although the bezel is massive. If you can get ubuntu on it i'd probably get one.
I want the one that looks like the Vaio P right now. But for 1/3 of the price.
Oh my GOD, I've been waiting for someone to make the MID / Phone device that he showed at the end (Wistron device). I want it, someone please make it into a real product instead of just a technology prototype. I'd love that thing... read books, watch videos, use it as a sketch pad, make hand written notes, call people, etc. It looks ideal. I want...

Sorry, the post system freaked out ... nothing, then 2 of the same. So weird.
