ASUS begins shipping ultra-longevous Eee PC 1000HE
ASUS' Eee PC 1000HE, which managed to garner some pretty high praise amongst reviewers, is now shipping out to eager buyers. For those that missed it, this here netbook sports a 1.66GHz Atom N280 and a high-capacity battery that could last up to 9.5 hours under perfectly ideal conditions. And for under $400, how in the world can you complain with that? If you too have received your tracking number, feel free to gloat about it in comments below. Might want to hold the actual digits close to your chest, though -- we hear netbook interceptions are on the rise.

No, just the standard Intel chipset.
Hello from Amazon.com.
We now have delivery date(s) for the order:

Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, Bluetooth,
XP Home, 6 Cell Batte" [Personal Computers]
Estimated arrival date: 03/18/2009 - 03/27/2009
ouch, I thought mine was bad. Mine says 3/11/09 - 3/16/09 for delivery date
but if you read in the comments for the products Amazon is supposed to receive a huge shipment on Tuesday and Thursday next week. It would just be an added bonus if it does come through.
Got mine Yesterday (1st Netbook). Like the machine form factor and performance. Watched a movie on netflix and Skype with video came up fine. Two problems: the keyboard rattles when I type and I have spent a lot of time debugging wireless connectivity where WEP and unencrypted work fine but WPA will not (My dell and Tosh connect fine using WPA). Chat support keeps timing out. email tech support gave a generic response, phone tech support has yet to help and they don't log sessions.
Got mine at a local computer store and love it. Swaped out the RAM and installed Win& build 7022. First impressions: http://johncozen.com/mediamavn/?p=100
Just to be clear... the Eee PC 1000HE with the 6 Cell battery is the one that last 9.5 hours, right?
Other netbooks have 6 cell batteries... but as long as the 1000HE has the 6 cell battery, it's the good one?
dammit, where's my tracking number? )-:
You and me both, a lot of people are waiting around for these things. Looks like Asus has dropped the ball in properly distributing these little netbooks. Middle of March is likely before I get mine, arg. Right when I'll be out of town for spring break.
yeah these are all shipping with a 6 cell at 8700mAH which last 7-9 hrs

Bob
Cancelled Amazon & bought through J&R (saved 10 bucks)...
I did order the 2gb RAM through Amazon for $25.99 shipped...
I read that the 1000HE only hold One stick (to bad, was hopping for 4 gb).... :)
Going to order a LaCie 301230U Portable USB DVD+-RW through Buy.com for $82.24 shipped (Amazon was $89.99 shipped).....
Bob
Even if you managed to drop in 4 gb you still would only be able to allocate 3.5 GB of ram do to this being a 32 bit processor.
Thanks....
I plan on running Adobe LightRoom, was just dreaming... :)
regarding RAM, there's 1 slot in this thing and it comes standard with a 1GB stick in it. Personally I took that out and popped a 2 GB stick in. I'll post a walkthrough video of the process this week on http://www.mediamavn.com
Thanks....
Still waiting on J&R to email me a ship date....
I have my 2gb stick & LaCie DVD+-RW drive...
Any idea when the new 3.0 USB will be here & if the 100HE could be upgraded to it...??____
Bob
you can hack anything Bob, but by the time USB 3.0 is rolls out on devices (2010) you might be ready to hand this off to a loved one for something even sleeker.
You are probably right, would buy a new laptop after the USB 3.0 becomes established...
Got an email from J&R and the blue 1000HE already shipped & I will have it on Monday...
:)
Got my blue 1000HE on Monday....
Installed the 2gb RAM with no problems...
Cycling the battery at the moment....

Got my blue on on monday Mar 10th as well. Love this thing, the battery life will blow your mind!!! I can't belive I get this much computer for this price. Upgraded to 2gb of ram before I even booted it for the first time, because I wanted it to be as fast as possible from the very first boot.
