DDR3 shootout pits OCZ, Kingston and Corsair against one another
DDR3 modules aren't exactly new or anything, but given just how low the prices of big time kits have become, we figured it prudent to pass along one of the most thorough shootouts on the subject that we've seen. HotHardware grabbed a few DIMMs from the labs of OCZ Technology, Corsair and Kingston, threw 'em all in a Core i7 rig (not simultaneously, silly!) and benchmarked the lot until they literally fell asleep at the keys. The results? We'd love to tell you which sticks came out atop the pile, but that would just be spoiling the fun for you, now wouldn't it? Give the read link a look if you're ready for the action.

read the link if your ready?
what has become of journalism?
But it promises action.. so *only* if you are ready for the action!
haha.
Is your name in someway referring to the youth hostel chain?
Because i stayed in both the Flying Pigs in Amsterdam, and they were sick
one common household object is killing you right now, tune in at 11 to find out what it is!
Who let this guy in!
haha touché
To be quite honest I think the author of this blog post didn't ready the whole thing and just got lazy "look at this article click to read the whole thing" rather than a summary. I may be wrong it's just what it looks like. .
Guys where is your sense of suspense?
I think he meant the use of your, instead of you're...
Ok, Your You're, i'll get it one day.
yeah what he said!
your all idiots
So basically Corsair is the Best, but the most expensive
OCZ is the best bang for your buck.
which is what most of us knew for a long time
@Bufsabre: Not really... i think G.Skill is generally considered the best bang-for-buck. Plus, it's still nice that he summarized the entire article in 2 lines.
the only g skill memory i ever owned was a 2x1gb set of laptop memory, one stick failed after a week, RMA'd it and got a newset which both were DOA. so who cares about performace when 3/4 are ganna die. OCZ and Corsair have never failed me... ever. although i were talking about cheap brands that give descent performace, transcend are pretty good depending on which model you get
Thanks for summarizing, like the original author I really couldn't be bothered reading original article!
@bufsabre
youre that one kid on newegg who always manages to get 4 DOAs in a row arent you? sorry to hear that :-\
i have 2x2GB ddr2 1000 in my tower, 2x2GB ddr2 800 in my girlfriends tower, and 1x2GB ddr2 800 in a laptop, all from g.skill, and they are running like a dream. i have never had a problem with them and recommend them to all my friends looking at upgrading ram. but then again each person has different experiences.
@thatrotierkid
that and one motherboard were the only thing ive ever had to rma from newegg.
this isnt about newegg. but honestly newegg is far more awesome that corsair ocz kingsten transcend gskill patriot combined
haha sorry if that came out douchy. what i meant was when you read the comments on newegg, no matter how good the products reviews are, theres always one kid who got the worst luck ever lol. more of a humorous observation on my part than anything else. :-)
However, there are several articles out there that state the speed of your ram has little effect on actual performance of your apps, and you are better off buying MORE ram.
Some of us want to play crysis.
Theres also articles saying, your 24 now. Move out and stop playing computer games.
Oli D, please learn the difference between your and you're.
Its not about learning the difference, its about remembering that grammar nazis lurk in the waters of tech blogs.
Oli D-
Wasn't it YOU who started off the the comments for this article by being a grammar Nazi?
You= idiot
No i was lightheartedly criticizing the writing of this article.
My comment had nothing to do with grammar.
I bid you adieu.
Wow, OliD, thanks for hijacking my comment with your random attacks.
Thedesolate, what do you mean re; crysis?
You need the speed to play Crysis, dude.
As I mentioned, more ram > faster ram. For any program, especially a 64-bit app like crysis (since the last patch at least) more ram will be much more important than less, faster ram.
'Twas sarcasm.
Why are they testing 6GB of memory on a 32 bit system?
Because that's how they roll.
Also, because you touch yourself at night.
Because they have absolutely NO IDEA what they are doing.
because not everybody have a 64 bit and it probably wont be that way for awhile.
ajoan0077: Windows Vista 32 bit will not recognize over 4GB of RAM. testing 6GB will get you the same speeds as 4GB. Vista Ultimate 64 bit reads up to 64GB (correct me if im wrong but i think thats right)
i'll probably still buy Kingston HyperX when i build a new computer that takes DDR3. still just waiting for socket AM3 and Windows 7
"They literally fell asleep at the keys?" That's an ambiguous "they" if I've ever seen one. Sounds like you're talking about the modules, and they can't "literally fall asleep" because they're not biological constructs.
I dont think sleep is constricted to biological constructs.
My computer goes into sleep
My phone goes to sleep
My pacemaker goes to....
How about DDR3s for laptops??
Macbook crew?
No, Vaio.
Other then overpriced for the moment, probably not going to get much out of the upped speed in the platform unless you are building a gaming laptop. Most Intel systems now still use DDR2-667. What is sticking DDR3-800 or maybe DDR3-1066 going to do when its starving for data from a slower 2.5" HD?
the dell studio xps 13 uses ddr3 ram
Whoa! They are making Dance Dance Revolution 3 for a laptop, wouldn't you crush the fucking thing?
@marc, you dance with your fingers.
i would hope their use of 32-bit Vista was a typo. seriously, memory benchmarks limited to 4 GB on a 6 GB rig?
so i suppose i was the only one that clicked the link on the rss feed thinking it was an article about Dance Dance Revolution 3?
Thanks for summarizing, like the original author I really couldn't be bothered reading original article!
Will it play Dance Dance Revolution 3?
mushkin is better
