Sony's VAIO P going for €599.95 with T-Mobile Germany data contract
Thinking of picking up a VAIO P for your left rear pocket? Do you call Deutschland home? In need a mobile data plan? If you've somehow managed to answer yes (or "ja," as it were) to all three of those inquiries, T-Mobile Germany has a deal for you. Sony's WWAN-packin' VAIO P -- which has seen itself subsidized in America on Verizon Wireless -- is currently being offered for just €599.95 (VAT included) with a web'n'walk Connect L data plan. For those too uninspired to search, that's a €400 discount from what it costs to buy outright over there. Tempting, nein?

and the data contract is what? 30 Euros a month for 18 months?
That makes 1139
For those who were going to purchase the vaio p with a 3g data plan anyway this is a good deal.
I don't speak German but it looks like it's €39 per month: http://www.t-mobile.de/mini-notebook/0,18488,21680-_,00.html.
I'd have to know what the service was like and what limitations apply to determine whether that was worthwhile or not. If it's unlimited then it may not be such a bad deal.
Hmm.. it just makes you wonder, i could just sack it off and get a Dell mini 9 for about a quarter of the price.
Sure it wont fit in your pocket but...
Also, i just found out that ZooStorm do their own netbook, and its not half bad for the price:
http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=3310-9300
its 24 months 39,95€. 5GB. when limit is reached 64 kbit/s (download) / 16 kbit/s (upload).
VoIP, Instant Messaging, WLAN, BlackBerry APN and Peer-to-peer is not allowed.
600€ + 24*40€ = 1560€
WTF?? Instant messaging is not allowed? Deutschland needs a net neutrality law ASAP.
I think the 5GB limit is pretty reasonable but they shouldn't be allowed to call it internet if they disallow half the services I use every day. E.g. IM and VOIP. Call it anything you want but it's not the internet.
blur bla bla, IM may be not allowed and some other crap may be forbidden aswell but we germans do it anyway, T-Mobile doesn't check if you use it or not, everyone who is telling you otherwise is a douche. ;)
Except for VOIP that is wich they monitor and prohibit very strictly..
FYI this is roughly the plan we germans get on the iPhone aswell
3g in Germany...? vroom vroom pawty shtawta.
sectioned.
Why is this even considered news? Mobile operators have been offering discounted or even free notebook computers with data contracts for a very long time.
Subsidized Note/Netbooks are no news at all!
Especially since their contract is a ripoff at 24x39 Euros!
You can get unlimited 3G on pay as you go for 19 euros, using the same network - so for 400 "savings" you actuallly waste at least 480 on top!
To make it worse, even if you wanted to order it, it's not available yet (you can register your interest)....
BS.
Yes, but this is NOT a netbook.
Or so says Sony...
I think we are starting to see netbooks and smartphones becoming one!
i really want a sony vaio with 1.8 ghz and 2 gb ram and i dont care about the monthly payment for always having internet access... i think they have 1.3 ghz right now and it still costs 900 dollars MINIMUM. i will get the next version if they make one soon with better specs though for 900...
I checked the Sony netbook at a store and the keyboard is not that comfortable. the HP 10 inch netbook is much more comfortable and cheaper. Sure it wont fit in your pocket but unless you have tiny hands then skip it. and it seemed slow to me, running windows VISTA Basic.
@ francisco
sony netbook? the Vaio P is not a netbook come out from under that rock, Hermit.
lolz
Nein, es ist noch zu teuer für ein Netbook.
Templarian, his comment translates to 'No, it is much too expensive for a netbook.'
But that isn't the reason why you sound like an ass...
BREAKING NEWS .... SetFSB can now be used to overclock an American Vaio P 1.33 Ghz to Japanese Vaio P 1.86 Ghz speed.
http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/
Supposedly fixes choppy full screen video playback in iTunes and YouTube (Disabling SmartWi and using Vista Basic graphics mode also helps)
Use SetFSB to adjust underclocked Atom CPU from 1.33 into 1.60 or 1.80

Well, the last sentence should be "Tempting, oder?" and not "nein", but I know that german grammar is quite hard ;)
I'd rather prefer not to get shafted by T-Mobile for 24 months. Their prices in Germany are outrageous.
