Video: Dell's Adamo teased by robots with lasers
Ah, the teaser, this time in the form of the elusive Dell Adamo. It's all here: an ephemeral feel, robots, lasers, a fashion model, and a catchy slow-jam tugging at the bootstraps of urban cool. Sure, it doesn't tell us a damn thing more about Dell's ultra-slim, luxury laptop. But if you're in for an exquisite tease done with perfection, this is it. Click through to get it on.

Why can't we have a DVD drive?
Mkv, divx, xvid, mp4... pick one and download! (not on itunes, stupid... on demonoid or mininova)
That hump behind the screen looks like it'll cause the same weakness as MacBooks have. Namely, if the screen gets whacked from the front (because, say, a bunch of freshman are fooling around and throw something and it hits the screen), it'll go back just a bit, then snap when the lower edge hits the hump behind it (or on a Macbook, the lower edge hits the body of the laptop, in front of it).
I don't know why they build machines in such a foolish way. Both of my laptops are capable of having the top edge of the screen rest on the table behind the laptop, so if my screen was smacked, it'd just open up more fully and lay flat, unharmed.
This computer is amazing!
I own a Dell XPS m1530 and I love it. Can't wait to buy this one.
I wish they'd come out with a price for it already.
I still just want a damned price so I can be disappointed that I can't afford one.
/has an HP dinosaur.
weird how as soon as apple does something, it seems no-one else can do it without facing a fanboy comparison.
(i'm talking to you unibody yodelers above me)
of course! apple is the best in the business. everyone wants to copy them. first the iphone, and all the clones, and now the macbook, and the beginning of these clones. nothing can beat apple.
Meh, the Lattitude E4200 is already the winner in my book. This Adamo looks thick and big for something that is supposed to be "ultra slim."
Lattitude E4200 ports: e-sata, USB, Firewire, VGA, Ethernet, mic-in, headphone out. Oh, and express card and SD card slots. Hard to top that.
While you make very good points, I'd be curious to see if this thing is packing a multi-touch trackpad like the one on the mini10.
Well, of course an Adamo has to be attacked by Cylons.
Gah comments systsem!
As cool as this looks I'm praying for decent specs. Ill be happy with clock speeds higher than what the MacBook Air has, and 9400M graphics. I'm hoping for better though.
Dayum... there's the dreaded word... "luxury"..
www.seetrinisariosuckdick.net
We all know who you were talking to though.
That guys annoying!
I really don't think that dell is copying apple. In contrast, I think that this really is a great innovative design for a slim laptop!! Remeber these people stating that it is only possible to make a slim laptop in the Air design when MSi introduced their new laptops? I think this one is the best example that it is possible to make good looking & slim laptops without copying Apple's design!
Cheers!
What are you talking about?
'Apparently' (maybe not actual, but certainly implied in this ad) Unibody construction cut from single piece of aluminium, light-up keyboard in aluminium colour (like previous MacBooks), v. large, v. square trackpad, perforated aluminium over speakers (at back rather than on top), all flat typing surface/keyboard.trackpad area, all-black glass looking screen, edge-to-edge, all design elements 'not' taken from Apple? You may all dislike Apple here (although you actually all sound like spurned lovers/college students/pupils that actually cannot afford the hardware, therefore hate Apple for being so 'overpriced'-how dare they! If I can't buy one - I don't want one! It's crap! What a rip-off, you're all fanboys! Will you listen to yourselves, please? You probably also post videos of your ex-girlfriends...).
wtf are you talking about?! ^^ I am a satisfied mac user (and do not upload vids of my gf on youporn, if you're interested :D) but I just think that this is a nice laptop which is slim and not a 1-1 copy as the latest one from MSi. Certainly, there are some "overlaps" with the new apple series, but I think diffusion is quite normal this industry. A 100% copy of a product is, from my point of view, something different than the new dell laptop.
Oh and btw: You should show a little bit respect to people you don't know and who just say their oppinion. Just because this is a forum-like platform here does not mean that you can behave like that!
Starcolm: 1, Tim: 0 ...
Are you saying then that all above features are 'not' copied or inspired by design features introduced by Apple? They came up with them all on their own, presumably have never even seen a MacBook before? I did not say 100% copy, and neither did you in your first post, you said that Dell is not copying Apple and that is just not true. They have not made a 100% copy of an Apple product, of course not.
Your 'diffusion' however is a 'diffusion' of Apple design and form language, not say Toshiba form language and certainly not their own form language.
Oh and by the way, the other comments were for all the apple haters above, nothing to do with you, I just squeezed them into the same comment, sorry. Just seems to be the recurring threat with Apple bashing in any Apple related post..., my bad for not posting it after a more relevant rant..., it's like scratching you neighbors Bentley just because you can't afford one, happens in England all the time, too.
Is it just me or does that song have some sort of sad tempo to it? kind of sadness.......
Sure is a skinny thing...
Its not about who copies who, its more of who comes out with the better product at the end.
And sure Apple has to come out with something good, it cost a leg and a hand, otherwise who would pay that kind of cash.
iKurt MarkIII, that is only because windows is Gracious enough to let you do that. Apple.. well, thats another story.
The computer looks great! Too bad the OS is shit.
what? You know what it will run?
Win7 is great as you have read here on engadget. XP is the standard, running all your apps perfectly. Linux is an exotic option and OS X can be installed without too much pain. What can you ask more??
Vista?.. tweeked down a bit it can be ok.
You know, on a pc you can run the OS you want.
Boards of Canada,
You know, on a Mac you can run the OS you want.... legally.
=)
iKurt MarkIII, that is only because windows is Gracious enough to let you do that. As for Apple.. well, thats another story.
Sorry, but that case is blowing 7 kinds of smoke. I LIKE it! Let's hope the spec/price ratio is more Dell-like than the body is...
It looks definitely like a macbook. I don't see this as doing to well in the future, too bad Vista is crap.
Can a company come out with a good looking product and not be accused of copying apple? since when did apple become the standard for all things good looking? Look, apple may have "did it first" but that doesn't mean they "did it best".
Nice, but they are trying to become the windows apple. They should be more original.
100% pure copy
Make that 90%... I cant see any artifacts
The one thing that will probably kill it for me is the lack of a DVD drive, i know it takes up space, but when i use a computer like this, i want to use it for more than just official business. it will do everything i need except play a movie or two when im on a flight/train. sure it can do it from the hard drive, but getting it onto the hard drive just got more difficult/longer.
other than that, this is pure sex, those that say it looks too much like an apple need to answer one question, what other direction were they supposed to go in? if they continued to use plastic, you would have bitched, if it wasnt unibody you would have bitched, if it wasnt shiny you would have bitched, stop bitching and enjoy the fact that this, of all things, might just looked as good if not better than a macbook. the industry needs competition in every way, style included apple proved that to us.
dont forget Dell already makes a computer that directly competes with an apple and has looked much nicer for over a year now. the micro-top sells that competes with the mini is a much better looking machine, especially when wrapped in bamboo.
@ Tim
touchpads were actually introduced or used by Apollo computers BEFORE apple introduced them. So yah, careful with that Twit comment.
This thing is going to replace my super old ThinkPad, assuming it ever is released.
Dell should get more creative. Their ad looks like the Mamba advertisement sent out by Razer.

Wow.. I love the song, simply amazing! Who is this car stereo wars band?
Omg I just thought of something
It will most likely use Intel's CULV platform
But what if this is Dell's entry into the market with AMD's Neo platform
I hope not...
Nothing against AMD I just want a cpu that is dual core and isn't 4 years old
This things got a nice ass. But seriously, it is a quite sexy laptop.
First off this Laptop looks simply stunning. You can tell the people in the design department at Dell have really thought long and hard about this one. To be perfectly honest they needed to as well, seeing as they are moving into a luxury consumer market now.
Next about the hinge design (or ass lol), I like it. Maybe its a marmite kind of thing (either love it or hate it) but i personally think it looks good. It also allows the ports to have better spacing on the back end of the machine.
Finally about all these fanboy comments and 'copied designs' remarks. How is a company to launch something without being accused of copying by at least one bunch or another? Dell knew this when designing the damn thing. If they actually copied something then the company would have its ass sued.
Sure everything has to take inspiration from somewhere, which is true for most products. The fact is that the generic formats of today's laptops are a hard thing to change. They have been perfected in the forms which most people are comfortable using. You don't exactly see people getting so heated about kettle design do you? (pun intended). Still though this thing looks like its own machine. It's pretty and recognisable.
P.S: Actually i don't even understand why fanboys exist. Sure if you worked for apple/dell/sony..etc in their design department maybe you would have something to complain about. But I'm guessing most of you dont. So please quiet down with your ranting.
P.P.S: I realise I've been ranting myself lol! Shhhh!
