HP Mini 1000 six-cell battery now available to order, for real

You may still not be able to get that VGA adapter, but it looks like HP Mini 1000 users can now finally get their hands on the six-cell battery for the netbook, which should provide a significant boost over the stock three-cell battery. As you may recall, this follows a brief spat of seeming availability in January but, judging from some of the responses on the HP Mini forums, it looks like HP has since canceled the few orders that got through before the battery was pulled from its site. Those folks may not be too disappointed any longer, however, as the battery now has a price tag of $95.99 (after a $20 instate rebate), which is quite a bit easier to swallow than the $153.90 that HP was originally asking.

hey! you found home... row.
i saw this one HPs site a few weeks ago. has anyone actually bought one? how many hours are people getting from this battery?
hp and other reviews are saying around 5hours of battery life. if you turn off the wifi, bt and dont watch movies (only basic doc things) you might get 6-7hours out of it.
yes i like that. nice and small.
Instate rebate? If that isn't a typo, that's pretty harsh.
I just returned my Mini 1000 to Costco today because it came with a crooked hinge and barely has 2 hours of battery life out of the 3 cell. Gotta love their return policy. I now have a 1000HE which has about 6-8 hours of actual run time depending on how I use it.
Placed an order at the HP Parts store a while ago when it showed up there, and they told me they didn't know when they'd actually be available. I just saw that they were going to be available on their regular store yesterday and was gonna cancel my order today ($150!), but it actually arrived this morning! Crap. Now I gotta call and see if I can get a credit.
It's fully charged now, but I can't tell you how long it's gonna last. It definitely makes the unit heavier, and it sits much higher and at a greater slope on a desk. But if I can get 5 hours+ out of it it's worth it. OSX is reporting I have 1 hour 19 minutes left, but I don't trust that.
nice
HP's second-generation foray into the mini-laptop space, also known as netbooks--the HP Mini 1000--has a couple of advantages over its predecessor (the HP 2133, which we reviewed back in early April). Gone is the Via C-7M processor; gone, too, is the pipe dream that any current netbook could handle Windows Vista (the Mini 1000 runs Windows XP). The Mini 1000 that we received for testing packs Intel's 1.6-GHz Atom processor; 1GB of RAM; a 4200-rpm, 60GB PATA hard disk; and Windows XP. Translation: It falls in place with the rest of the current mini-notebook pack.
But its standard 3-cell battery is absolutely not enough for a lot of people both in the work and in the life. For this sense , any possibility to enlarge the capacity of the laptop battery?
I strongly suggest that order an extended hp mini laptop battery to enlarge the working time in: http://www.hunt360.net/hp-mini-1000.htm.

What is more, the price is acceptable.
I also read that HP has also added an 80gb hd option. But at about 90 that not a bad deal. I may have to get it.
It's only forty bucks to swap from a 3-cell to a 6-cell in the configurator, too. So if you only need one battery, that's the way to go.
My HP Mini, while wonderful, is lacking a VGA out dongle that was promised in January 2009. Seriously, you have lost a customer for life. I will NEVER buy another HP product.
Boo hoo.
Hmmmm :-\
If I had known that they had an extended battery in the works I would have looked at the 1000 a bit harder. As it stands I'm typing on a new Acer Aspire One 10"er I got Monday. Immediately jacked it up to a spare 320GB 7200 drive I had, and 2GB of RAM, and from what I understand the mini is a massive PITA to upgrade.
Hard to upgrade? Not be any means. It's easier than most with the ram having a slider to open it's bay and the screws reside right under the battery. I totally overlooked the Mini also, but after EVERY local store sold out of EVERY other netbook I could think I gave the Mini the attention it deserved. I couldn't imagine having a smaller keyboard or a less attractive design out of a netbook. For 350 bucks, you can't go wrong.
Now on the actual article, I really want to know what the charge time is like on a 6-cell and does this new battery sit flushmount like the one that comes stock(could be a great thing or bad thing, depend upon how high it sits)?

I'm still not buying any company's netbook till they can ship it with 2gb or ram.
In HP's brilliance they put a 2gb option in the linux version of their mini which doesn't need it. And only 1 GB in the xp version which DOES need it. Their thought process eludes me.
In your "brilliance" you fail. Microsoft has a contract with every company bundling Windows XP stating they CANNOT sell any machine with more than 1gb of memory. Its their way of forcing companies to bundle Vista.
Too bad the Mini didn't come with the 6-cell like my EEE 1000H did :)
I purchased 2 Mini's. The one for me is fine as I don't need the VGA out. The one for my wife I have just arranged a buy back from HP for it as they don't have any idea when they will have a VGA adaptor for it. I purchased her an Asus EeePC which has a VGA port installed and we are happy with that. HP obvioulsly rushed out the Mini and made a lot of mistakes.
