Keepin' it real fake, part CXC: TESO starts aping MacBook Air, quits early
Astoundingly enough, we haven't actually seen a barrage of MacBook Air clones. Which is pretty remarkable given that, you know, it's a Cupertino-designed product. With such a huge opportunity staring it in the face, China's own TESO decided to see what it could whip up, and what it whipped sits pictured above. Iconic glossy white Apple coat? Check. Impossible to miss MBA styling? Check. One single lonely USB port? Check. Too bad it threw in some low rate keyboard and a mismatched battery cover on the underside -- we were almost totally digging this. Sike.

In before the "Everyone copies Apple! Get your own ideas! AMG SUE THEM!"
I swear I see more people writing "in before such and such" than I see people whatever that "such and such" is, especially in the case of preemptive anti-Apple-fanboy-ism. A lot of the people here (including the staff) definitely show an appreciation for Apple products, but aside from a couple trolls, I just don't see these people you're talking about.
Then Normal, I would say you don't look very hard. It seems every story about a new "thin" laptop or MP3 player is hosed down by Apple fanboys who are determined Apple invented everything.
Also, appreciation for Apple products? Are you serious? They rebox current technology and sell it on at a premium - I'll chose to appreciate the innovators.
Hell, Apple wants to patent a Wii-mote "ripoff".
So who's supposed to get mad over this?
is that the new "first!"?
either way, just as lame.
Actually it has two USB ports, you guys should at least skim the articles before commenting on them and posting them.
i thought it would be hard to top only having 2 usb ports. alas my dreams are smashed.
I love how they kept the Air's little door for the USB... except, because this laptop is much thicker than the air, it's totally not needed. They prove this with the other USB port on the other side - it has no flip-down door.
IMO, the fact that it (probably) doesn't come with iTunes is reason enough to choose this over an Air.
It has two USB-ports, did you not watch the video? Under a cover there is one more.
It apes the air in shape only. Nothing else about it is similar, not even half as thin.
I love how there are a million smudges all over the screen in the pictures on that Chinese site.
(That always bugs me.)
Sike?
Sike!
'Nuff said.
No, that would be "psych".
Tooshay!
(irony)

psych
1 /saɪk/ Pronunciation [sahyk]
–verb (used with object) Informal.
1. to intimidate or frighten psychologically, or make nervous (often fol. by out): to psych out the competition.
I guess the Air is hard to rip off because it's so thin. This unibody process seems really important, and most manufacturers haven't even figured out how to use other materials than plastic when building laptops.
And by other producers you mean other then IBM/Lenovo, Sony, MSI, Asus and Toshiba? Because those all produce laptops which have similar size (if not smaller) then the Air. I fail to understand why mApple peons always consider Apple to be the innovator while the concept of small and light laptops are already being done about 10 years ago. Even the Liberetto a long time ago was smaller then the Air and hosted for that time top specs.
And.. c´mon unibody like that´s so special. Plenty of other producers manage to build laptops which are small in strong shells made from carbon/magnesium/nickle alloys way before Apple considered doing something different. And guess what, those producers still managed to produce laptops with long battery lifetimes which could be swapped.
JZ: I believe the individual you were replying to was referring to the weight and the width of laptops. But as for innovation — where are all the non-Apple laptops with a magnetic power connector that doesn’t destroy the laptop if somebody trips over the power cable? Where are all the non-Apple laptops with a trackpad that supports multi-touch gestures? Where are all the non-Apple laptops with a self-feeding CD/DVD drive?
I also find it hilarious you refer to Lenovo as “IBM/Lenovo.” IBM makes mainframes and earns a profit doing so; Lenovo makes janky laptops and loses money. Know the difference — it could save your life!
Of course the Air isn't being ripped off that much. It's a tricky design to replicate, if you are at least going to make a half decent attempt to give it acceptable specs.
MSI are the only company that has done it blatantly so far.
Well, for starters I doubt this is the final production model and it's also one of very few netbooks to offer HDMI output which is worth something. And indeed, it has two USB ports...
So already 12" laptops are netbooks? I guess my prediction was right that soon we will have 13", 14" and 15" netbooks...
heu... its not really looking like the Air no? less than the MSI in any case...
too bad the brand means both "hard on" and "broke" in Portuguese... though "broke" might be considered quite appropriate :D
What makes this different than other manufacturers computers? Especially MSI.
Obviously this is a pretty bad copy-job, but the 12 inch form factor is much nicer than the Air. I have a macbook and I'm generally quite happy with it, but it's just a little too big. If they made a 12 inch 1280x800 Air, I'd be all over it. They could basically just trim off the bezel around both screen and keyboard and boom goes the dynamite.
