Boston-Power's Sonata battery now available for HP laptops

The deal has been done for a while, but today's the first day that Boston-Power's much-vaunted Sonata batteries are actually available from HP, where they're now officially known as the HP Enviro Series batteries. Helping them earn that moniker is a promised "sustainable performance" for a full three years (which HP backs up with a warranty), and a number of other enviro-friendly measures that helped snag the batteries the Nordic Ecolabel certification. Best of all, the batteries are available for no less than 18 different HP laptops right from the get-go and, at $149.99, they don't demand quite the premium price that you might expect. You can't yet get them as an option in a new HP laptop, however, but that's apparently on tap for later this month.

whatever keeps battery technology progressing.
I just want a laptop that runs all day and whose charge quality doesn't decline so dramatically.
Lenovo has to get on this!
My ThinkPad X61s can run for 12 hours with its two batteries but I want more!
Would be a nice touch if both of my HP laptops hadn't kicked the bucket before the battery ever wore down in the first place.
did you try turning them off and on again?
@Oli
I'm pretty sure that was Sony that said that.
Maybe, but the oneHP that I had and died. That was always the first step for the online help.
So I'm doing environment a favor by buying yet another battery for my hp laptop? Great, the two that already came in the package really didn't do it for me...
Run, capitalism, this man is trying to expose you!!
Uhhm yeah call me when these batteries have an extended battery life
Are these Lithium Polymer (as opposed to Lithium Ion?)
Nice move. Batteries are one of the few legit eco issues. Maybe we'll see a few smarter choices with the electric/hybrid car craze. Landfills full of battery toxicity and water tables are easily contaminated and hard to defend. If we all crave mobility we have to look for solutions to the unintended negative consequences - batteries.
That is why we RECYCLE batteries.
Anyway, I would really like to see methanol fuel cells for laptops. I thought we had them ready for production a year or two ago, where did they go?
Not compatible with Pavilion dv7?! BOOOOO. Totally was considering dropping the cash for this.
what is the benefit of these batteries?
If you even bothered to spend a minute and take a look, you'd notice that they last longer than normal laptop batteries and charge significantly faster (80% in 30 minutes)
i thought these were going to charge to 80% of power in 30 min. but there is nothing in the press releease about it. anyone know what happened?
LOL: $150 not a "premium price"? Have you looked out your window recently, at the state of the economy? Apparently, engadget reporters are doing well for themselves and are flush ...
I think that is a reasonable MSRP price for a new battery technology. Early adopters usually pay a much higher premium than what these batteries are going for.
