Dell Adamo to arrive tomorrow: $1,999
Not a ton of details to work with here, but Dell's confirmed to the hometown Austin American Statesman that the 13-inch Adamo we saw at CES will indeed launch tomorrow and be priced at $1,999. As expected, the machine will be just the first in an entire line of high-end Adamo-branded machines, but we don't know if Dell has anything else in store right away -- hopefully we'll find out more soon, as the 13-inch version is due out in 24 countries including the states on March 26th. Ballsy move launching a premium line in the shadow of Apple's iPhone 3.0 event, but you know we'll bring you all the details as soon as we have 'em.
Update: Well, that was fast -- the Adamo is apparently already floating around SXSW in Austin. No specs yet, but that's a picture of the box up there. Yeah, it's hot. Check out a bunch more pics by Brian Solis here.
[Thanks, Billy]

What kinda price is that?
I think theyre pulling some 'fruity' moves with that...
(ill leave now)
It's a premium price for a premium product. Dell has clearly seen that selling expensive, well built computers is profitable, and wants a piece of that delicious high-margin apple pie. Plus, it's cheap compared to the MacBook Air, which is a full $800 more.
they too are pulling some "fruity" looks of the device too
Looking from that one picture, you can already tell the stress being put on those hindges if opening the screen, even an 'inch' (some people will understand what I'm suffering to) too far.
..'Premium' problems if you ask me.
Because the MB Air has never had hinge problems..
@Coolbone
Thanks for clearing that up, Admiral Obvious
Oh fail... too bad Engadget doesn't have a frickin' delete nor edit button. Sigh...guess that's my cue to get some sleep because this baby's out.
Why would you even tilt the screen that far back? Even with a good LCD screen, the gloss trend makes the viewing angle on that much a tilted back screen absolute balls. I only even open my laptops slightly past a perpendicular angle with the base.
Re: David,
Come again? The MacBook Air only costs $1799. Besides, this thing looks more comparable to the $1299 13" MacBooks. How the hell does Dell justify a $700 price difference? You could buy a 13" MacBook, plus a copy of Vista, and it'd still end up saving you $500. It's a nice looking laptop, but Dell needs to lower the price to make it competitive.
Yeah the m1330 also had that premium price for a premium product bullshit and look how well that worked out... Horrendous build quality, and stupid parts that keep dying after 3 months :@.
I can see it now: A Simpsons Episode called madamo

@Parki:
Yep, I was $1000 off. Not sure why I was thinking it was $2800, that would be absurd. I have no problem spending $2000 or even $2800 for a laptop, but I think both the Dell and the Air are overpriced for the capability of the hardware you get. That said, these sorts of products don't really need to be a good value as far as hardware specs relative to cheaper products go, as both products are fashion statements to some degree, and the buyers they target are not that price sensitive.
Hot. I need one for my cruiser.
Do want!
You know, it's not an Engadget giveaway event!
I'll catch it when it is on sale for $599.
The components will probably be a little outdated by 2015, don't you think?
exclusive for bailout execs...
this doesn't look too bad...
i like my latitude xt better... similar size, not as powerful, but its a convertible tablet too..and i only paid 625 for it refurbished.
id rather have a macbook air for that price
Still nothing about what the heck's in it?
Sick...matched Air's pricing, now lets see the specs.
Ok, they matched the Air's price in CAD...
Doesn't matter what specs it has, the Mac fanboys will still bitch and moan about it having an OS that isn't OSX.
Spend $2K and get stuck with windows? Skip!!!
2K and the ability to shut the fuck up about an OS!? I'll take it
^^^ Ha Ha! Priceless!
HAHA right. ill pay 2 grand for a Dell? No thanks
I can't remember a time when i haven't payed $2000+ on a laptop, and all of them have been dells...
I remember I shelled out just under 2K for s Dell XPS M1330 a few years ago. Now I think it is time to offer up the Studio 15 on eBay to help pay for this purchase. Must have one.
yeah - i'm thinking of dropping my loaded Studio 17 for this one
How much is sony charging for the VAIO P?
A lil pricey for a Dell product to be honest. Apple I can see justifying this but not Dell.
But hey I'll wait for the specs before finally deciding whether it will be worth it.
As it is though I'm leaning towards MacBook Air. Anyone know if it's possible to get Windows onto an Apple laptop? I know it's heresy but I really want to know if it's possible.
Yeah it's been possible for a couple of years now. (Leopard Mac OS 10.5)
Not only possible, but really easy. You can either run a virtual machine from within OS X, which is actually very usable speed wise for most programs, or use boot camp to create a dual boot machine.
Get VMware Fusion or Parallels.
Thanks for the replies guys!
sure can get windows on a macbook air..
had win7 dual booting on my macbook air rev a (ssd drive too) but never used windows since i can just run XP in VMWare fusion :P
looks nice but i have doubts about dell's build quality after the mess w/their Lattitude XT Tablets. also, w/that price point it better kill the air in specs.
I really weep for you guys if you think Apple announcing features for their mobile OS that other phones (and not even smart phones...) have had for years is a big thing. Or are you just sad because you know Dell won't be overnight-shipping one of these thin little laptops to your lap tomorrow morning.
The only reason why I paid more for a Mac is because it runs OSX without the headache of hacking. Why would someone buy a Windows laptop if you can get one for half the price?
If dell was bright, they should make a notebook just like this, but make all the hardware osx86 compatible , secretly and then release it to the masses. That price point is nuts for a 13inch notebook
i think its called an MSI Wind, the cheapest mac netbook :P
No.
I really like it, but I'm happy with my HP mini 1030, Windows 7 works like a charm and I only paid $429 USD. For that price I'll buy the best Macbook available, I know they are heavier but they are real computers not expensive netbooks.
This is a beautiful machine with an ugly price.
Hi Dell.

*NEWSFLASH*
The world does not revolve around an Apple event that will showcase features a "dumbphone" has had for years. Even the new features are not groundbreaking enough; but, there will still be a collective orgasm by all the fanboys that are no smarter than their dumb "smartphone".
