Update: Lenovo leaks Pocket Yoga mystery netbook pics

The mysterious netbook that Engadget Chinese hepped us to from the floor of Lenovo's Beijing office now has a name -- if little else. Images have surfaced on the company's photostream with this bad boy in a number of compromising positions, showing off its convertible design and touchscreen stylus capabilities. Tantalizing, yes? That's it for details, but be sure to hit up that gallery for those red hot pics.
Update: The mystery is solved, folks. According to Johnson Li, the director of Lenovo's Beijing Innovation Center, the device is a two-year-old laptop design concept that features a leather exterior and detachable keyboard. You know what? We still want one.

I saw pictures of this before the vaio P and thought it as a prototype model because it had no branding on it.
Damn, that's hot. I find no use for it, but I still wantz.
This is what you get when a VAIO P mates with an iPhone.
@Saad Rabia, iPhone? WTF?
I am bewildered.
Is it possible to even write a single legible word across the screen in portrait mode?!
Is that cylon font on the keyboard? That thing is so WTF.
@joe23521: I love the iPhone's form factor and smooth UI, stunning friendly interface, Every once in a while I hold an iPhone and enjoy the UI for 10 minutes, and that does it for me, but whenever I come across things like copying text or opening two applications at the same time or maybe sending a picture I liked to my Omnia using bluetooth, or many other very critical details I keep discovering, I realize that this phone although moved the industry to make better efforts in the UI friendliness, I can't stand how it is making people much more stupid when it comes to hardware and software choices and "real" software use. The iPhone took some of the many features that people didn't know about in the first place and overhyped them like if these features were the only thing any phone can do, hence degrading the way people think about phones and technology. I just wish that Apple would be honest about what they give to people and enable simple features for them long time ago. To understand me more, just wait until Apple puts "Copy and Paste your life" on their ads, and see how every blog and person overhypes such old and necessary features in any "smartphone".
Having said all of that, the iPhone might be a perfect device for many people, but not for all the people buying it and overhyping it.
@G Man:
Sure you can! Just sharpen the tip of the stylus.
"This is what you get when a VAIO P mates with an iPhone."
I bet the price will also be something like that...
@saad rabia
Then you get the "pPhone!"
Hot indeed.
And it fits your back pocket too!
@Lundmark my thoughts exactly. It kinda looks like an overgrown nokia mini pc but it's not a phone and it has a usable keyboard. The touchscreen is an awesome addition. Finally a fresh idea in the netbook market.
wow cool
NOT
"Wayne's World" called - they want their gag back again. That said, Mike Myers would also like his dignity back again but you can't have everything...
Wide and wild!
Only drawback I see is you cant play a freaking game cause the ratio is just too weird... for the rest, its cool. I think next year we will see one of those for under 600$.
*ding!* Things people call your mom!!!
I think that you're probably dreaming if you believe that we'll see anything like this in the driving distance of $600. The fact that they took the time to put a dead animal's hide on this thing should be a huge "we're going for the luxury market" flag for you.
We'll be lucky if this thing is under $2000. Which might actually hinder Lenovo in the Chinese market. Isn't their status equatable to Dell's over there.
@canada
consider doing multiple monitors on a single monitor....ie have 2 desktops on that screen, and have one for a very low-res gaming (wooo CS 1.6!) and the other for your email
i'd tap that
Ho, I was not talking about this particular computer... I think the market for those small longtop will get wider as more manufacturer will jump in. What next? Asus, Acer, Dell...??
@Mike; I have to admit I would no complain owning a little beast like that and give a try to some Morrowind action! And on some modern games you can put the resolution you want.
Reminds me of the Vaio P but with a purse look to it
Yeah, that and a pipe = win.
That still wouldn't replace my iPhone, but it is still damn sexy!
*Sigh* (--.--)
Cause it's not a phone? You applefanbois; for shame.
That's like saying, Oh, nice Car, but it wont replace my fork.
Nothing can replace my fork, its MY fork!
@LondonConsultant, -2.
Way too much info. Also inspires unpleasant thoughts.
This will copy and paste over your iphone.
I hope it's on linux, not windows.
Note the windows log key on the keyboard. I wish it would/could run Win7
Reminds me of the HP Jornada and NEC MobilePro clamshell PDAs. What great little machines.
"Reminds me of the HP Jornada and NEC MobilePro clamshell PDAs. What great little machines."
Exactly. Funny how at the time nobody cared about those things but now the form factor is coming back. I still use my Jornada 820 for simple word processing sometimes. It works. Not the fastest machine around but after 10 years it still works.
So if the VAIO P was made by Apple we would have 400 comments explaining how Lenovo are infringing Apple's IP.
Glad Sony fans (any left ?) are a bit more sane.
Meh... I think sony fans are indifferent...
I just like them for their form factor. Theres plenty of better computers on the market, and for better prices.
There would have to be a big ass scroll button on that keyboard, cause that's what you'd be doing!
You'd be scrolling ass?
It's sad, they way every advance in tech is primarily applied merely to deliver more/better/scrollier porn...
Is it the trackpoint at the top right??
No apparently there's no trackpad, that buckle (or clasp) you can see when the thing is closed, turns into a wireless mouse.
I like it.
sexxxy!!!
So, taking into account the on/off button on the right side of the screen, the (possible?) indicator LEDs on the left and the Lenovo logo at the bottom, we are seeing an 800x200 resolution? Or maybe even 600x200 ?
Could they have chosen a worse location for the trackpoint?
Also, the screen is just too rectangular. What was the point? It's not pocketable anyway.
Last time I checked, most computer screens are "rectangular."
Joe, last time I checked I were an idiot.
People with half a brain know what I mean.
joe23521 - you failed at trying to be a smart ass. TareX said 'too rectangular' so he is correct.
Why do they have to try to fit it in a pocket that can't fit it?
Even if this one looks smaller than the VAIO P, it still looks ridiculous.
I want to see what OS they'll put on it, I can't see it with windows... Maybe something like Android?
I can honestly say that this is the first netbook I might consider. Small enough to carry around, yet still a real keyboard and likely powerful enough to run a full OS. I'll surely never be able to afford it, but I like it.
What is your opinion of the S-10 Lenovo? It is easy to carry around.
This device and the S-10 would require some sort of bag or putting it in a small attaché or pocket book, anyway since neither is pocketable, really.
I like netbooks, in general. But they're still too big to carry on a daily basis. Unless you carry a bag/purse/backpack with you all the time, I just don't see how they're all that portable. Smaller than a laptop, sure, but they still don't fit into a pocket. This design looks like it'll at least fit into a pocket, albeit slightly awkwardly.
That's sexah. I think $299 and this thing would sell like hot cakes :D
more than likely it's gonna be much more with that leather on it...consider about 800$
I just can't see the usefulness of such a notebook. I mean, if I want something really compact and small I go with a smart phone. If I want a mobile desktop environment I get a 13/12 inch notebook. This middle of the road form factor is not good at neither of these, so what's the point.
its more that its gonna probably have a high-res display, and for the people that want the readability of a wide screen but the pocketability of a netbook.
as I posted above, if they did a multimonitor-on-a-single-monitor app then it would be very useful. I know that i would die to have a multimonitor PC that could fit in my pocket.
@wrabbit
agreed. Smartphone, Netbook, Laptop... Desktop.
that one looks like a meaningless sexy gadget between a smartphone and a Netbook....
Waaaay too wide
Just like your ass
lol damn right
That is the nerdiest thing I've seen since a slide rule. Way too big for a back pocket and too small to have a usable keyboard. I'll pass, thanks.
Im 100% sure its just a wireless keybord with wide wacom tablet. Or does it actually have a display ? :D
if its cheaper than sony then i say "SUCK IT SONY!" overpriced communist pigs
What the hell aspect ratio is that? If it was 2:40:1 it might make a sweet PMP, provided the price was right. Put an open source media player on there and never have to worry about codecs or buying 'plugins' (archos style).
They now have links to Lenovo's blog that discuss this thing in more detail. It was a design concept from 2 years ago, looks like it won't be produced.

Awww thats a shame....
Look! it fits comfortably in your back pocket! Just like the Vaio P
Why do the photos resemble the promotional photos for the Vaio P?
definitely should be about $300..... The form is nice but not practical...... Although the convertible ability is pretty sweet though......
Leather-clad, elastic strap, stylus for screen? Not only is that usable, it's fashionable.
At least I won't look like a dork anymore when I rip a computer out at a party. :D
SERIOSLY awesome design. Love the mirror finish on screen interface and luscious leather. I wonder if this is as thin as they could possible make it...
Yesterday, UMPCportal.com had a similar aspect ratio device, without a keyboard, that they're referring to as the "moorestown x" (just for internal reference, there's no actual device name for it). It looks like an elongated iPhone, until you see the side buttons and software.
I think either of those, with the right OS, could be do-able as my pocketable device. Where "right OS" would be one of:
a mobile phone version of Ubuntu
a mobile phone version of Maemo
Android
OS X (iPhone/iPT version)
But, if it's Symbian or WinMo, or some other random OS? not interested.
I want one if it's really a modern version of the jornada/mobilepro. It looks though like power users are not the targetted market though. A stylus with a poof on top? Sheesh.
If it has built in mobile broadband, I would use Skype and get rid of my phone
Has no one realized the link to a Lenovo design blog right in the Flickr stream? This was a design exercise by a design team Lenovo has in New Zealand. The blog post makes it seem very clear that this is not a production unit at all, rather just a forward thinking design experiment.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
That screen is ridiculously wide... what the heck can you do with it?
I hope it has at least 800px vertical resolution. The wide screen might be useful for coding, though it still seems somewhat impractical.
Look pricey, some here said $300, are you kidding me? today $300 netbook none of them are touch and this has leather on it, plus lenovo don't make entry laptop, so they price will similar to Sony P, this are for those rich guy that want a small portable netbook in their pocker.
This is exactly double the physical width of the n810 which is as wide as a single hand. Expect no less than a 1600x480 screen resolution.
I really dislike leather on electronics :[
Its vaporware.
No OS
2 year old dev thats gotten nowhere.
Whats with that clasp? Not necessary.
I do like the tablet idea.
I wish it were true, but in the meantime use your pimped out Jornada with wifi or a Psion from 1999.
I may just buy one of these if it is true, to supplement my oh so heavy 2005 Toshiba U105 Libretto (sub sub notebook sized, < 2 lbs, 7 inch screen, 1.2 Ghz, 1 GB Ram). They are easier to type on than you may think.
But when are people going to start getting compensation from these manufacturers when they lose their eyesight, thats the real question with this FF.
So will THIS fit in my sports jacket pocket? If not, no dice!
