Dell Adamo to also come in $2,699 1.4GHz model with 3G
Dell's Adamo 13 might be a looker, but the 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo, X4500 graphics, and 2GB of RAM found in the $1,999 model announced last night are fairly underwhelming, and it doesn't seem like the $2,700 higher-end configuration reported by Laptop is going blow any minds either: Dell Australia has it listed with a 1.4GHz ULV Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and a built-in 3G card. That's a lot of money for integrated graphics in a four-pound machine -- anyone taken with Dell's artsy new image enough to shell out?

Sheesh. Both of these models make a MacBook Air look like a smoking deal. I doubt that was Dell's aim here...
Makes you question why people were complaining about the Air so much.
Better processor, graphics card, and looks (the MBA is thinner, and doesn't have an ugly, 1980's bulge in the back).
My only explanation is that Steve Jobs has infiltrated Dell and is working against them from the inside
Greg:
I think most of the complaints about the Air came before the 9400M was thrown in. It's become a better deal than it was at its inception.
After seeing this, I think Apple should take a page from Dell and offer the MacBooks in Black Anodized as well as silver.
@ The Walrus
That's assuming Steve Jobs is still alive.
It's official, Dell has lost their minds.
Yeah. You can't charge people $2700 for a pretty subpar specced notebook for something mediocrely slim.. What does this have that say, a Lenovo X301 doesn't??
Since it's not April1st, I'd have to agree.
Indeed.
Did I miss the memo where Dell became the new Apple?
Can we now dispense with this Apple tax nonsense and instead decry the whole bastion of high end laptops.
This thing REEKS of fail. Instead of putting all this ULV kabash in a visually attractive notebook at a very unattractive price, why not SLIM DOWN the rest of the fleet (especially the business notebooks, sheesh!), and keep the price competitive. Didn't Dell learn ANYTHIGN from the MBA? As in, it was too expensive to justify for most people? Making a $2700 netbook is bollocks FTL.
No kidding. I hate macs but even I would buy a macbook over this. We're talking insane dollar amounts here. The ASUS competitor to the air looked way better than this and if I remember correctly was expected to cost under a grand.
" What does this have that say, a Lenovo X301 doesn't??"
Some people will argue that it's design, but I highly disagree.
Agreed. Royal waste of design effort
It's a great design, but with all that aluminum you think they could afford the heat of a basic graphics card (not to mention afford it's cost with a $2000+ price tag).
But it's sooooo prettyyyyyy. D:
MACBOOK AIR!
Plus they got the name wrong!! Its Adama not Adamo :)
They used to say this was what the Voodoo Envy should have been. LOL
After seeing the images they have on their website with the stupid fashion models it hit me. I saw this thing almost a year ago with those same models. I think I was looking for laptop cases. I believe some of the pictures I saw included a strap attached to the laptop as well. It's no wonder these are below average inside, it took forever to hit market.
I am digging the Adonized black though.
And I'd almost say it's worth it for the 4gb of DDR3 RAM, because that's about how much Apple, Dell, Lenovo, and just about any other build-it-yourself company charges for the bloody stuff.
You're kidding, right? Just because Apple can charge hundreds of dollars for RAM doesn't mean that it's worth it. Buy a laptop with the least amount of memory possible and upgrade it yourself.
actually, you're right
Looking back at this article, I realised that that price is in US dollars. Not Australia dollars (considering the dell link is Australian)
Oh well, expensive.
Too expensive for me. I suppose they're trying to take business away from the spoiled brat teens who like macs because they're pretty, but the price needs to come down further to break into that market.
Sure, that makes sense. It's not like we're in a recession or anything. Why not double the price while your at it.
This is getting worse by the hour.
What a bag of hurt!
No.....Blu-Ray is a big bag of hurt. This is just stupid.
All I can to that is WTF???
So similarly spec'd like the voodoo envy.... even the underwhelming bits.
$2,000 for a 1.2 GHz dinosaur? I hate to say it, but even the Air has better specs at a lower price point. What absurd demographic is this targeted towards anyway?
AIG Executives.
@Dat
You claim the award for "Win of the day"!
Agreed. Who in their right mind would buy this.
Our only hope is that the typical Dell coupons and fire sales follow closely behind the release.
It's an AigBook.
Executives, spoiled teens/college kids, housewives, people on the move, trust fund babies.
Bleh, what's the fat posterior? Shave down this lappy's tailbone...and price...and maybe you've got something to sell. A brushed metal sheen ain't gonna win people over to this thing. Stick to the giant light-up XPS line for the super rich, they love them.
I like my light-up XPS :(
As well you should, they're awesome! But do you have matching LA Lights sneaks?
They're doing the same thing with the M6400 workstations. I can't tell any real difference between them other than the anodized aluminum. Look at the price difference.
hahahahah, this doesn't just make apple look like a great buy but most anyone else for that matter!!! I'm saying that and I love apple and have only bought mac all my life. Thanx Dell for taking the pressure off us, oh and someone is going to get fired for sure.
If it had at least the 1.8GHz like the macbook air it might have been interesting - but 1.2? That is just a cruel joke!
At that price I'd have thought Dell had done something significant like figured a way to put a DVD player into a slim unit
- this to me smacks of 2007 technology.
Should I trade in my MacBook Air for this? :)
Only if you've got more money than brains! :)
Well he did buy a Macbook Air in the first place.
And it comes with Windows! Yay!
FAIL!
Talk about design (and even that is questionable with that horrible bulge in the back) without substance. At least the argument for the MacBook Air was that it ran OS X --there was some differentiation to the mix. How does Dell justify selling an insanely expensive notebook that runs the same OS as their cheap-ass ones? Oh, wait... it runs Vista 64-bit. Right... with a 1.2 GHz chip. Good luck with that.
epic fail. who do they think they are apple? at least apple has a decent os to go with the price
This model will not even sales over 10,000 unit
It will however be over 9000.
