Samsung NC310 netbook gets a price, official pics

Samsung didn't exactly skip over a lot of details when it announced its new NC310 netbook earlier today, but it looks like it's now clearing up a few remaining tidbits, and dishing out some new, polished up press shots of the long-lasting netbook for good measure. While there's unfortunately still no official US pricing just yet, the NC310 (or N310 as it's also being called) will apparently demand £399 (or $577) when it hits the UK in May, at which point it'll only be available in basic black, with blue to follow shortly thereafter (no word on the remaining colors). As you can see above, the official shots also reveal a bit more of a resemblance to some of Sony's high-end VAIOs than Samsung's current netbooks, though you'll of course still get Samsung's trademark glossy, piano black bezel. Hit up the links below for a few more shots, and the complete specs in case you missed 'em the first time around.

Looks like it is made of rubber...
What a Rip!
For that price I can get an iPhone AND a 2 Netbooks. and have cash left over to buy a general tao dinners.
AHAHAH!!!!!!
You are all losers
I know a secret!
Gross! A General Tao dinners? Do you mean General Tso?
Whoa, whoa, whoa man. Get back on those meds, pronto!
I'm sure his parents said the same thing.
So wait, basically the same specs as an MSI wind but for ~$600? Really?
Keep in mind that this is the UK price... It's common for things to be more expensive in the UK, for whatever reason.
@shadyman
Tell me about it! :(
although items are more expensive in the U.K. there is no extra State / Sales tax added at the checkout. a $400 netbook would cost more depending on the State it's bought in. i don't know how much these State Taxes vary but i think Nevada is about 8% (?).
VAT is added. 17.5% nationwide.
I think this is a really beautiful design, and I really like the chicklet keyboard.

I just looked at the link and saw the outside.... which takes a lot away. They made it look more like a toy than a real computer.
Looks like an iBook with more color options to me. The plastic iBook I mean, not the aluminum crap they have out now.
Don't skewer the US price based on a straight currency conversion. It rarely is the case that such a conversion reveals the true US price.
Also, what iPhone and netbook? The good netbooks will all cost you ~$400. Those are the ones with good battery lives, non-terrible keyboards. If you think the HP Mini note with 3 cell 3 hour battery and pisspoor keyboard is worth the price go for it, I'd rather get the NC10 or 1000HE, pay the extra for something I can type on with speed and confidence and type on for more than 3 hours. As for the iPhone, sure maybe with a contract. Most of us already have contracts though, and upgrading or canceling a contract is expensive, but you didn't factor that in.
first of all, the hp mini has an awsome keyboard, one of the best.. though i still woulnt get it cuz of some of its other issues.. then theres also the wind with an awsome keyboard, and can be found for as low as 329. 60 bucks u can get a 9 cell battery.. so in total, 4 hundred u can get a netbook with a decent 5-8 hour real life battery with all the same specs. id much rather that than spending two hundred extra for a crappier toy looking design.
Yeah, I think I said exactly that the good netbooks are going to run you ~$400. So... when the guy above me said he could get 2 netbooks and an iphone for the same price as this netbook, he was right, but also pretty wrong. You'd get 2 terrible netbooks with terrible battery life and uncomfortable keyboards, and an iphone attached to a plan that may or may not require you to change your existing plan.
Not to mention pounds>>dollar conversions rarely happen with any product let alone electronics! So the price griping really doesn't make sense to me.
So... its only worth the price if it has one of those fancy new 1.8 ghz atoms engadget just announced like 2 days ago and the Ion platfor. I highly doubt that either of those will be included but seeing as there really was no clarification on what actually is inside is disappointing.
Guys who are complaining about the price, relax and unclench that sphincter. This is in the UK and generally when they come to the US they keep the same price, but in US pesos instead of pounds. Dollars to donuts it'll be $399.
@Barry
When you're outside of Miami, they're called dollars.
LOL.this better not be a trend, this high price thing. The economy is worsening, not the other way around.
Why are more companies copying the glass-like panel screen that the MacBook/MacBook Pros have?
I don't know if you're being serious or not.
Apple copied that look.
Its terrible to say the least.
What caused sammy to opt for such a design? The keyboard and screen are nice, but really... would anyone want that chassis? It had potential to be a nice looking netbook too...
The blonde girl in one of those pictures is really pretty...
It looks like a macbook with the isolated keyboard, and all glass display.
$600 for atom processor laptop??? Fail!!!!!!!only apple n Sony are allowed to overprice their laptops n get away with it. That is a laptop rule.
That is some ugly and off my shopping/wish list..
ugly ugly huge bezel.. and orange?
yech.
This seems like an oddly fat netbook.
They seriously don't get the point of these being netbooks. I mean, wasn't one of the selling points of the first eee the fact that it was pretty cheap?
Now these guys try to charge me six-fucking-hundred dollars for an atom processor???
Agreed, if I'm paying that much, I'd want at least a dual-core Atom processor, dedicated graphics with an HDMI port or best would be both.
it would've been nice if not for the giant embossed "SAMSUNG"
i really dislike the look of this thing, and im usually a samsung lover.
The UK price includes tax (all of our prices do, it's more honest). The US equivalent, without tax, is about $499.
One button?
@Onetrack: Y'know, there's really nothing much they can do about the bezel, considering the screen has to accommodate for the keyboard and touchpad down below. They COULD put in a 11-inch LCD instead I suppose, but then the chassis may be too small for that.
Though I gotta say kudos to Sammy for a full-size right shift key and a decent sized touchpad. Those on the Asus and MSI netbooks are such a cop-out just so they can have a perfectly aligned keyboard, which is completely unnecessary and a damn fuss to type on!
I LOVE the chicklet keyboard, especially on a netbook
Looks like a step backwards from the NC10, which I consider one of the better netbooks. They ought to fire the NC310 team. This is going to be a stinker. Gawdy design. Glossy screen instead of the matte screen on the NC10. Indifferent about the chiclet style keyboard. I love apple keyboards as well as the NC10 keyboard.
Here's an idea Samsung: Create an ion-based NC10 with 1280x800 screen and better speakers.
Does anyone else think this thing STRONGLY resembles the PEBL phone from motorola a year or two ago??

Yes, yes it does! :)
It looks like a nice computer, but I like my new Lenovo Y430.
