HP set to introduce 16-inch AMD-based dv6z laptop

There's not exactly an abundance of details on this one just yet, but it looks like HP is set to introduce an AMD-based counterpart to its recently refreshed, Intel-based dv6t laptop, which will make the already affordable laptop even less expensive. Apparently, the AMD-based dv6z will start at just $599.99, which will be knocked down a bit further with a $30 coupon at launch, and further sweetened by a free HP DeskJet printer that'll be available with a mail-in rebate. Unfortunately, there's no word at all on specs, though you will at least be able to get the dv6z in the same Espresso Black or Moonlight White color options as the dv6t, with the latter still demanding a $25 premium.

I've been waiting for sumthing like this, now specs and we might have a winner
of course it'll be a liitle more expensive for us up north but the deal is still sweet.
HPs with AMDs tend to get pretty hot and if you want to use them on CPU-intensive application you'd better have an extra fan underneath it or it'll burn your lap!
Looks nice!
If I was in the market for a laptop I might consider this!
It's not realy expensive
I like that...
This actually looks pretty sweet...
It's a... netnote.
Not quite a notebook, but definitely better than a netbook.
Plus, for some reason, buying something for $600 makes you feel like you are getting more than if you were paying half that...
what are you talking about "Not quite a notebook, but definitely better than a netbook."?
This is a regular old notebook, with lots of power options and customizations. Far from a netbook
16" is pretty huge though...
iofthestorm:
Not really, if you take a look, it has a reasonably thin bezel around the screen, so the footprint will be comparable to most 15.4 or 15.6 inch screens.
When do we get 45nm AMD CPUs in lappies?
A dual core PII in a laptop would be amazing.
I hope you didn't mean Pentium 2, even though sometimes I get the feeling AMD CPUs are that slow. All kidding aside though, 45nm processors in laptops would be very cool(literally as well).
Haha... no. These days PII = Phenom II.
We already have 45nm in laptops from Intel, I'm using one right now I bought last July. After undervolting it the fans pretty much just idle all the time.
However, I would LOVE a Phenom II laptop. I hope AMD doesn't take forever getting these things on the market.
yes i agree.
Is that really a non-apple computer in an engadget story that's not being negative about it?
where's your proof?
The last AMD based HP laptop I owned gave up after only one year. It was an HP Pavilion DV6000 w/ AMD turion 64 w/ Nvidia graphics card.
Blame HP, not AMD.
Blame who ever you want but all laptops brands have nearly the exact same failure rate since they're all manufactured by the same 3 companies in China- including APPLE. That means you're just as likely for one brand's laptop to fail as you are with any other.
Nothing wrong with a low-price laptop. Why I remember the days when I paid 3000 for a PIII-700 Mhz.
I don't know if I want this thing with the cracked screen.
