Acer reportedly launching laptops based on Intel's CULV platform
We don't doubt that Acer's cooking up a few laptops based on Intel's forthcoming consumer ultra low voltage (CULV) platform, but we do have serious reservations about 'em coming out next month. Last we heard, the platform was still on track for a summer release, and at least in our hemisphere, April ain't summer. For what it's worth, Taiwan Economic News is reporting that Acer is looking to launch 11.6-, 13-, 14- and 15-inch machines with CULV processors within, and if rumors prove true, at least some of 'em will make their debut next month. Don't bet the farm, but you're probably safe to pencil it in.

I wonder how much it costs...$700?
This is not appealing. I saw Asus eee N10j with 9400 chipset that is only $650 on ebay. Looks better and smaller.
engadget can we please get rid of all the posts that exclaim minor leaps in power in chip sets, I mean really, we know that computers are always going to be getting more powerful, how about every month you release a chart of the chip sets and the notebooks and netbnooks that are going to be upgraded, just release major upgrades such as completly new lines of products
Am I the only one excited about the 10 hour battery life that Intel was touting on these machines? I think we all wanted Atom to be more like CULV, enough "oomph" to run Linux or XP, super-efficient, and scalable for different purposes (i.e. GPU for a low-voltage HTPC). Atom is a bit of a power hog when compared to the Celeron that powered the original 7-inch Eee PC's, and CULV seems to be more in that line. If it is battery life you want, then CULV FTW!
P.S. Please AMD, I used to love you, why can't you just be more like that Intel across the street. Your cheap quad-cores are good and all, but they aren't going to power a Netbook in the near future.
Is there even an AMD powered Netbook out there? (And if anyone says "Why of course, the OLPC uses the Geode platform." I will personally hunt you down and strap you to an overclocked GTX 285, those suckers get HOT!)
Hear hear, geodes suck.
AMD is still working on their Atom comparable platform, which they're going to aim at high end netbooks i think.
Hows about some of these low power Semprons?
That is possibly the ugliest notebook I've ever seen.
Thats not a netbook.
You guys are both correct. It's an ugly notebook.
It's really ugly!
i agree.
fugly as can be.
