HTC Rhodium / T-Mobile Wing II hits the FCC
It looks like the HTC Rhodium (that's the Touch Pro2's codename, if you're keeping track) is inching ever closer to its launch on T-Mobile as the Wing II -- the slider QWERTY handset just arrived at the FCC. The listing is awfully meager at the moment, but it looks like the model number will be the RHOD100, for those of you prone to prowling government databases late at night. Of course, there's no word on release date or anything like that, but we're willing to wait for this sexy piece loaded up with Windows Mobile 6.5. Engineers and RF fetishists, your SAR reports await at the read link.

mmmmmmmmm Can't wait. Think T-mobile will introduce it today at CTIA?
I thought the rhodium was the touch pro 2.
It is. rhodium (codename) is the Touch Pro2(HTC Name) is the Wing2 (T-Mobile Name)
Oh that makes sense. O2 in the UK rename HTC touch phones with their on too. I think they renamed the touch diamond the xda ignito.
Why they can't leave the names I don't know.
Sprint! Where is my HTC touch pro2? (I have the $500 ready)
e.m. is right, just like the kaiser is the code name for the tytn ii/tilt/ and raphael=touch pro, fuze
I agree with Shattered Ice, why not just leave the damn name alone. Wing II sounds stupid.... It'll always be the Rhodium/Touch Pro 2 to me.
Somehow I bought one online for $500, I'd imagine I should check see what's been charged to my account!
so the touch hd or touch hd pro or the US variant will not be in the lineup
Where's the CDMA loving HTC? My Titan is starting to feel dated and Sprint is chomping at the bit to get me another 2-yr contract. I actually told the rep I'd sign a 2 year contract now in exchange for first dibs on the Pro2 when it comes out, but he said he can't really do that.
I hear TMobile isn't actually that bad, but the Sprint EVDO coverage is just so much better.
just wait, sprint doesnt do anything if you havent upgraded... i waited for like 3 months off contract
why isn't this with android?
Agreed. Needs moar androidz.
damn! ii wanted this for att!
Should work just fine on AT&T (although god help you get your data requests serviced under the flood of iphone crappery).
It'll work fine under ATT. It's just that you'll have to get it unlocked and pay full price for out of contract.
My feeling is that ATT will get a variant several months later after T-Mobile. ATT got the first generation of Touch several months after Sprint got it.
It really does'nt seem bad, very much like my touchHD with a physical qwerty k-board (which cant be bad); but what I want from HTC, to get rid of my HD, is the Whitestone.
Where's the whitestone guys?
Shall I really buy an N97? or a Toshiba tg01?
The first of those to reach a scandinavian store will end up in my pocket. I wonder which one is going to be. (yes I have already given up any hope that the Archos/Texas Instrument Android smartphone could be anything else but vaporware)
What you want is the HTC SuperStar.
It's slated for release this year (presumably around the 3rd quarter) and it will pack the NV AP16 chipset.
APX is the Tegra chipset ;)
These code names are terrible
One step closer to being carried around in my pocket :)
But the most important question is: After 6.5 attempts at a mobile Windows, has anyone at Microsoft actually tried USING Windows Mobile ON a MOBILE gadget?!?
I dont see any mention of T-Mo's AWS frequencies in the FCC docs, only the following are listed for WCDMA - WCDMA/HSUPA/HSDPA Band I 1922.4MHz – 1977.6MHz; WCDMA/HSUPA/HSDPA Band VIII 880.4MHz – 914.6MHz. Doesnt seem to be the 1700/2100 that T-Mobile uses.
sweet does that mean its going to att then?
not going to ATT.
The phone above is listed as UMTS Band I (Europe) and UMTS Band VIII (Asia).
No Band II for ATT, or Band IV for TMO.
Actually the EU uses 2100 not 1900 for UMTS. While AT&T uses 850 and 1900... so this is AT&T 3G
perfect-I was just looking at the wing.
These are the WCDMA frequencies listed for the HTC Sapphire (G2): WCDMA/HSUPA/HSDPA
Band I 1922.4MHz – 1977.6MHz; WCDMA/HSUPA/HSDPA Band IV, Release 5 1712.4MHz –1752.6MHz. Looks to me like this Rhodium is not for T-Mo US.
This is stupid. Why would Tmo US release a phone of this Caliber at EDGE speeds???
Maybe because this FCC review isn't the T-Mobile version and Engadget with their normal poor journalism jumped the gun on assuming its for T-Mobile when no documenation in the FCC states its for T-Mobile and a quick glance at the frequencies would have supported that its not for T-Mobile.
The T-Mobile test unit documented earlier clearly had T-Mobiel 3G.
Doesn't T-Mob have the slowest 3G in the US?
It's like driving a Lamborghini/Ferrari/Insert your wet dream car here on a pothole filled road. What's the point?
I guess you're still driving a lambo/ferrari/whatever.
Driving a Ferrari on a road with potholes (3G) is faster than driving a Ferrari in an ocean of water (EDGE)
No Actually T-Mobile has the Fastest 3G if you'd do your Research and not just be a Moron. It just was introduced later at the fault of our Wonderful Government taking their sweet time exiting the Spectrum.
T-Mobile's 3G is wayyyy Faster than ATT's its been Tested and Documented everywhere so do a search on Google and Educate yourself for once please, Thanks!

T-Mobile has the ability to be fast, what they don't have is the broadband to the towers to make USE of the speed. if you have a T1 running to the tower, you're never gonna go above about 1mb a second even if the wireless capability is of 7.2mb HSDPA. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the fastest 3G speeds I've seen by far are on Sprint's EV-DO Rev.A. Theoretically HSDPA can be faster, but in practice it currently isn't.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3-gZmoWXSc, T-Mobile 3G is a little faster in this video comparison. I probably agree that is has to do with ATT having more users than T-Mobile but in NY itz faster and San Fan itz faster, so I think T-Mobile has a faster connection in area that carry T-Mo 3G. Itz safe to assume...........
@ Galen20K
Hmm interesting you say that when I type in "fastest 3g in US" and every single link says someone else is faster. Why don't you provide a link? I'd like to see where you're reading this, since pretty much everyone uses a different test in a different part of the country.
I'm talking about nationwide 3G speeds, my small town of 100,000 has much faster 3G than Dallas, AT&T's HQ.
I'm pretty sure I've read here on Engadget if not the mobile phone site and all the users agree that AT&T is better than T-Mob as far as 3G goes...
So why don't you quit calling people morons and actually post it yourself? Don't tell people to do the research if you have shown you haven't done yours by just stating words. Douche.
cant wait 4 this one
The FCC documents the tests for the NM8RHOD100 (AT&T) but not for the NM8RHOD210 (T-Mobile?) in the Letter of Confidentiality. Maybe they only needed to test one of the phones?
not to big on windows mobile thou, i like the phone thou
