Microsoft Software-plus-Services marketing vid teases Windows Mobile 7?
Our initial reaction to the all-too-brief shots of mobile devices in this slick, high-gloss marketing video provided by Microsoft was that the company had thrown together some totally meaningless mockups to help get their point across about bridging the communication gap across diverse platforms and technologies. A closer look, though, revealed something interesting (low-key Rickroll notwithstanding): the captures show off a UI layout suspiciously similar to some of the supposedly leaked screenshots of WinMo 7 we saw a couple weeks back. Is this all indicative of Redmond's direction for its next-gen mobile platform, a fluke, or somewhere in between? We'll probably be waiting a few months -- maybe as much as a year or so -- to find out, so we've got plenty of time to speculate.

As long as I have an iPhone 3G, the rest of the competition just feels like less...
:D:D:D:D:D OMG!
feels like less....INADEQUATE?
Oh snap, no you didn't just say that. You upset the balance.
Apparently you haven't seen the Palm Pre.
exactly
Anyone notice that was the Sony Xperia device they used in the commercial?
Yeah, nothing like having to crack my device to get it to bring it up to speed with 2006 functionality. Get back to me when you can do more than one thing at a time on your "smart" device or use it as a wifi hotspot or copy and paste text. Then again I guess you have the fart app market down.
Dingus McGhee:
iPhone 3.0 WILL have push notifications and copy paste.. .so HA
Double tap column browsing (like Opera for WinMo only better), or pinch and squeez? How about that for RDP or VNC? Skype? Nope, I didn't think so...
Even with the innovation that is iPhone, since Bill and his followers won't even let the object within 300 feet of them, they'll still and always will, suck. Meanwhile the wise will continue to actually get things done on a device that 'just works'.
Its about the software stupid.
I have both an iPhone and a Windows Mobile Device. I think they both work well and I don't like either one better. Both have their pros and cons, but I find the iPhone is better for mobile gaming.
@john:
Push Notifications != Multi-tasking, enjoy all of your pop-up windows.
iPhone OS 3.0 is going to look like a desktop PC circa 1996, with little messages popping up constantly to catch your attention. I cannot understand why Apple can't figure that out and provide some sort of notification dashboard a la Android and webOS.
On topic: As much as I want to deride MS, I'll be damned if those interface shots don't look sexy - I especially like the 360 where the dude just swiped left across his TV screen to bring up his company provisioning program - completely unrealistic, but damn do I want it.
Awaiting comments regarding the girls in the pictures...
Awaiting comments which could have to do with the article or WinMo7, but instead are about the girls in the pictures...
... removed the pictures while typing, lol.

:O Rick Astley isn't a girl!!
does anybody else see the dude with the afro?!
M$ Rickroll'd us all...
Warning: Windows Mobile 7 will Rick Roll you.
Microsofts new ad campaign:
Never gonna give you up!
Such a great UI! Pause on the left side, Next on the right, but you can't go back!
Of course not. Once you've rickrolled once, you can never go back! Like this guy:
http://ur1.ca/1ng1
And hiding under that Windows logo is a god-awful menu from 1982 you'll need a stylus to use.
Palm Pre me.
Maybe you swipe to go back?
Never gonna give you up....
never gonna let you down...
Never gonna run around...
So where is the video?
And desert you!
C-C-C-OMBo-- nah what am I doing.
I like the videos. They make me feel happy and excited about the future. YAY!!!
so does this going to be the BSOD for win mo?
a win mo rick roll :p
Either WIndows 7, or we'll all get rick roll'd. ^^
Yup, we got RickRoll'd!!!! (LMFAO - "a win mo rick roll:p)
Are you guys all idiots? Just a Rick Astley song doesn't mean you are getting Rick Roll'd. A Rick Roll is a bait and switch, not just a play of a song. Get your facts straight before you post random crap about "HOLYWTFBBQ I JUST GAWT RIKROLLD"
you, sir, are contributing to communism.
Hope they update NXE to receive instant "on-screen" notification like the video
i had a dream exactly like the "working smarter" video two weeks ago. every single piece of technology that's in the video was in my dream... i think im destined to be.
Windows Mobile 7 better is as good as desktop version. I would love to have phone and computer use the same OS, cause all syncing and stuff "just works" if provider is the same...
If I wasn't getting a palm pre this does make me want a windows mobile phone, just for this kind of integration.
I'm actually liking this...
And yeah I found this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
I knew it was Rick, but I still clicked.
I knew it was rick from your comment, but, I clicked it anyways cause I was looking for anything to do other than study for my Calculus II final.
The one shot showed Delta-Hub
but that city didn't look like Atlanta
what gives?
Delta has many meanings; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta
In this case it's probably being used to identify hubs using either the Greek or NATO phonetic alphabet.
I think you missed the joke
physical keyboards FTW
el video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AXUOjbwED8
yep that's the video
we don't see much of mobile 7 in it though (except for pretty much those screenshots)... o.O
But did u check out the hardware its running on??? Sony Xperia? The Xperia software allows for some fairly fast computing power, so i would imagine it would be pretty nice and smooth on a phone like that.
