Gigabyte's T1028 TouchNote has been cooking on the back burner for weeks now. After we first spotted it
lookin' pretty at CeBIT, the tablet / netbook hybrid has since landed in the
FCC's database and has now shown up officially on the company's website. The formal specifications list explains that the 10.1-inch machine will boast a swiveling touch panel (LED-backlit), a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, 92 percent full-sized keyboard, embedded HSDPA module, a 2.5-inch 160GB SATA HDD, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3 megapixel camera, Ethernet, 4-cell battery, WiFi and twin 1.5-watt speakers. Optional equipment includes an Atom N280 CPU, WiMAX module, 1,366 x 768 resolution panel (at least according to the user manual) and a more longevous a 6-cell Li-ion. Now, give us a price and ship date and we'll be pleased as punch.

FIRST!!!!!
Sorry guys. I'm a troll in rehab, sometimes it just slips out :(
Nothing chopping off your hands can't fix. : )
give me a damn tablet with a 15.4" screen and some power!
ModBook Pro?
very nice, but 3-4K is alittle much.
and when i said "tablet" i meant convertible tablet like this one is.
Unfortunately the actual market for such a tablet is small. Most Tablets are marketed towards business users for the very reason that there is enough of a market to at least break even on.
I like this idea but I've heard that Vista has better handwriting and tablet features but you wouldn't really want to run Vista on a Netbook, so kind of a paradox. I really like the form factor and it'd be awesome for note taking if the software works well for it.
wiiiiiiiindows 7.
Yeah, Vista has much better tablet features than XP and 7 is even better. It's not really worth using a tablet without either of those. Although I would also have to say that it's not worth using a tablet without an active digitizer, which I'm fairly certain this lacks, so meh.
You wouldn't be able to use the handwriting recognition on a touch-tablet anyway.. ever tried to write an essay with finger colors?
It just screams for muti-touch on screen keyboard~!
That would have been great if it had:
- Windows 7 tablet
- Multitouch
Punch isn't actually that pleased, it's a common misconception.
It's available now on mobilx.hu for $755.75 inc. VAT.
To expensive, a little too big, needs integrated 3G and GPS. Bottom line, I don't see a reason to buy this over ASUSs soon to be available T91 or T101.
The resolution may be 1366x768 - are the others offering that?
has no one noticed the black fingernail?
Have you never heard of nail polish?
It looks like the HP TouchSmart tx2z, all it needs is a black casing with stripes.
I'll have one of these for live testing tomorrow. Drop by at http://www.umpcportal.com/live in the (european) evening and feel free to join in with questions.
In the meantime, some more thoughts and specs...

Chippy
I'll be getting the better integrated version of this, with a pointing stick instead of the space wasting touchpad with awkward side buttons. And not in the weird bronze colour (whatever colour the material is, is fine).
Yes please on the pointing stick. Why oh why doesn't anybody release a netbook with a pointing stick? I'm not a touchpad fan in any case, but on a machine this small it just doesn't make any sense to use a cramped touchpad, no matter what your opinions are about which is better for a larger machine. For some reason all the review sites complain whenever a laptop only has a pointing stick but half of the users out there would prefer one.
