Video: Bumptop gives Windows 7 touchscreen PCs purpose
Bumptop has been around as a video concept for a few years. Now this amazing desktop organizer with a physics engine underpinning the UI is available for download (PC only). The software allows you to bump and toss weighted objects across the desktop and organize them into folders or piles the way you would on your real-world desk. It also includes the ability to pan and zoom on images with all the gesture support you'd expect. While a touchscreen (multi-touch supported when Windows 7 ships) display provides a more natural interface, Bumptop also works with a mouse. Check the video after the break -- then hit up the download link below which we suspect you'll be frantically searching for after the video ends. Granted, we don't want to spend our days with arms outstretched at "work" in front of a touchsceen PC anymore than you, but software like this could be useful on our lesser used, kitchen PCs.
Update: Katherine Boehret and Walt Mossberg have posted their review after playing with the wares for a few days. It's definitely "worth a try" but requires a shift from an application- to a desktop-driven approach to daily computing. Something they don't sound eager to do regardless of how "fun" Bumptop is.

This is nothing new, perhaps with touchscreen it will be a little more practical but its really quite unoriginal to be honest.
It's very nicely designed and executed, but I have to agree with others, the last thing I want is my computer desktop to be as my real one is.
I can see this being fun at first but after a couple days just plane annoying.
Wow, it's microsoft Bob 2.0
I used this in a private beta, and it wasn't that useful, just purely for fun.
Also for someone who doesn't have a lot on your desktop its useless.
Hi I'm a Mac user... I don't care for Windows. That looks cool!
Would have been cooler if the cubicle sides stayed up while browsing the web and Firefox/IE just covered the bottom. Is there a way of doing that with the program?
Port to Mac OS please.
Downloaded and will buy the Pro version. This guy is gonna be rich!
Great, another 3D desktop on a 2D screen, makes perfect sense.
dude steve jobs is on the wall?! really?
Surprisingly, I love it.
I saw a video on Youtube of this ages ago, so I thought it was just vaporware. But now that I'm using it, I'm surprised it doesn't just feel like some cheap gimmick. My only problem is it only can be shown on one monitor at once...
The last 5 minutes, I did this in rapid succesion:
1) Watched de vid
2) Tought "WOW, nice! give this a try"
3) Downloaded and installed the lite version of the product
4) Tought "Just toy... eye candy... boring... boring... useless crap... boooriiing"
5) Uninstaled the product
6) Applied for hipnotic lessons to forget I ever did this
tried it and did not think it's useful.
As much as I like the idea, in reality it can drive me crazy. I want QuckSilver and computer-like organisation for the real world not my messy, disorganised desk that takes me 30 Minutes to find the sketch I'm looking for on my computer.
That won't stop me installing it the moment they bring out a Linux or a Mac version.
kinda cool
