We can't say for sure why you'd want to use a PlayStation 3 controller with your
Xbox 360, but if you somehow prefer the Batwing over something that's actually comfortable to hold, there's this.
XCM -- who just recently debuted its
Rumble Joystick and KO Adapter for PlayStation 3 -- is today shipping its Cross Fire Adapter for Xbox 360. As we insinuated earlier, this device enables users to connect a PS3 controller, original Xbox controller (
Duke!) or wired Xbox 360 controller to one's Xbox 360 console so you don't have to mod your controller to enjoy the spoils of Turbo Fire. Get your order in right now over at
Extreme-Mods for $84.99.
I really don't understand how people can say the Playstation controller is the most comfortable. The main (and possibly only) reason I've never been a Playstation fan is because of the controller. I find it extremley awkward to hold. Do you people have deformed hands or something? lol
I wonder if this would allow you to use your PS3 Rock Band / Guitar Hero equipment on the 360?
What the heck kind of deformed hands do you guys have that your thumbs don't fall EXACTLY where the analog sticks are on the PS3 controller when you hold it?
Ones that differ from whatever alien planet you come from, I guess. I'm guessing the PS1 has twisted your mitts into crab claws that are perfect for Sony gear, and little else.
When I hold the PS3 controller properly, my thumbs line up with the D-Pad and the other buttons. To properly play an FPS, and hit the awkwardly placed FPS buttons, it feels like I have to palm the sides and hold the controller lower than normal.
I definitely don't have that issue with the Xbox controller.
it's more comfortable for me to have the sticks in the upper location (opposite of dualshock). maybe someday i'll try that mod where the guy moved the right thumb stick on the 360 controller...
The 360 controller is comfortable as hell to hold, but I have 1 major complaint and that's the placement of the left analog stick. Having the left analog stick "up" on the controller versus the right stick being towards the bottom just throws off symmetry.
The N64 controller isn't the most advanced, finest tuned controller out there, but it's still my favorite controller of all time.
+1 for N64 Controller
The dual shock design has always been a poor re-design of the original Dual Analog Pad for the PS1. They re-designed it seemingly to cut out the cost of additional plastic, and those changes were kept for the Dual Shock, Dual Shock 2, SixAxis and Dual Shock 3. The DAP was comfortable, the Dual Shock never was. Nonetheless, it's a better controller than the Xbox 360 for 2D game that use the d-pad. It's a far worse controller for anything that uses analog. The 360 controller is almost perfect, my only complaint with it is the d-pad which is difficult to use, but there's really no solution I can think of other than having 2 different controllers, one for analog and one for digital.
I absolutely agree. It feels like the PS2/PS3 controllers are just digital pads with analog thumb-sticks thrown in as a poorly-placed afterthought.
The PS3 controller is for those who like precision. 360 controller for big lumbering giants.
Ok seriously, the 360 controller is only slightly more comfortable than the dualshock.
HTPC+ Bluetooth Adapter + Wii Controller + Gloveip trumps all! ;)
Wii-like Gaming in HD!! :D
*Glovepie
Don't forget Dolphin, so you actually have something to play. :¬P
I don't like consoles, but I've played on my friend's enough to know that the 360 controller pwns anything Sony has ever made. Oh, and the 360 has better graphics than the PS3, and all the good games. And a far better online service. And its cheaper. Hmmm...not really seeing the PS appeal, at all. Blu-Ray perhaps? Nah.
"And its cheaper."
How can you get cheaper than ps3 network? You can go online with your ps3 for free. There is no cheaper than free.
Your argument is intriguing and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Typical fanboy crap.
PS3 game visuals are in fact better than X360 game visuals. Thur far, games like Killzone 2, Uncharted, GT 5 Prologue and such remain the best looking (and playng) games on consoles. While some multiplatformers do look slightly better on the Xbox (ie, better shadows or some AA) then in exclusives theres a big difference.
Next, all the good games? I'm sorry but the last time I chekced (which was two days ago) then Xbox360 had 4 playable games and 2 playable Live arcade titles - aginst 17 playable PS3 games and 8 playable PSN games.
Not to mention that PS3 games have gotten better ratings than X360 games overall - http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/edge-analyzes-wii-ps3-review-scores/
Also, a better online service? So you like playng with your avatar like every other teenager on Live? And pay for gaming aswell? What a sad loser you are.
PS3 online gaming is free, the download speeds are faster on PSN and you have the option to download full games on your HDD (which is also easily replaceable with any laptop HDD) and let's not forget the amount of nice PSN games. :)
Here's something to read - http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/nielsen-wii-audience-is-youngest-ps3-audience-is-oldest/
Average Xbox gamer is 13 ~ 17 while it's 18 ~ 24 on PS3.
Shin, it's funny you criticize someone else for fanboy crap when your post is full of it too. A lot of that stuff in there is opinion and nastiness directed to someone for not praising the PS3. Your feelings and hyperbole don’t make for facts allowing you to judge how sad he is. Maybe you should practice what you preach.
If you don't even own a console, 360 or PS3, then why are you here? Sorry but this thread seems to be meant for people who can afford to have a console.
"the 360 has better graphics than the PS3," .... that's odd but I actually OWN both systems and I can honestly say I cannot tell a difference, not one bit. Anyways, I prefer the 360. It may be big but it's comfortable.
For me it's the 360 controller all the way.
For some reason I finally broke down and bought a PS3. All I have is Little Big Planet and Uncharted, plus some downloads, but quite honestly I just can't seem to turn that thing on. yeah it was cool to check out some of the things it can do, but the games aren't that great, it's extremely slow and that controller just makes my hands hurt.
Hopefully the games they have set to come out this year will get me to turn it on more because I could really use that $400 right now. Of course then I might need to buy something like this adaptor if they come out with one to let me use my 360 controller on the PS3!
Dualshock isnt bad, but the 360 controller is much better.
I dont know each controller has problematic ergonomics..... The 360 controller always has the greatest flow of movement so FPS's and fighting games alike are well placed with the buttons so the flow is streamlined but the Sony controller is great for complicated moves and RPG like choosing and fighting games..... They each have their problems but you buy the system knowing the controller you feel comfortable with..... I transferred over because I saw a trend happening with the PS3 I didnt like at all and got used to the 360 controller and now its easy for me to go back and forth but I prefer the 360 because of the way I play....
People have to remember that the Sony controller was made for smaller hands. Symmetry of the analog sticks also makes far more sense with a controller design that is symmetrical. I can't stand how the 360 controller makes you twist your thumb to use the left analog stick. It gets really uncomfortable.
Microsoft's peripheral design is terrible. Everything feels fine when you put your hands on them but they turn out to be terrible to actually use. Microsoft’s industrial designers are not very good at all. Any study of ergonomics would put the DS3 at the top of the list, sharing with the Gamecube controller.
You just can't say anything bad about the 360 without having hundreds of rabid fanboys decend to defend the console to the death. It really is a sickness.

For me anyways, it is a toss up and really depends on the game. I like the Xbox 360 controller for first person shooters and action games where I have to be frantically using both analog sticks. However, when it comes to things like fighters and puzzle games, especially 2D ones. PS3 Dualshock is the way to go IMO. Most of the other games I'm really indifferent to which controller I use. Now if you want to talk about uncomfortable controllers and twisting fingers and wrists. How bout that Wii.... (I actually dont mind the wii, but extended playing with the wiimote and nunchuck is by far the most uncomfortable of the three)
i'll probably get burned for this comment, but i LOVED the Duke controller. almost bought the one Ben Heck modded to work w/ the 360.
to me, it's as if the Duke makes it easier to make fine stick adjustments (aiming) because it has longer sticks and may just have a better potentiometer. the other ones seems to have steps in movement, like you move it so much and it doesnt do anything until it hits that step.
I general the Xbox 360 controller wipes the floor with its PS3 counterpart. However, the PS3 pad is still king for Pro Evolution Soccer.
Now if only Konami would get off their asses and give PES the radical update it needs.
This might be worth looking into because I love the PS controllers. The motion control part stinks...just like the Wii's controller but the size and the weight is great, especially after 6+ hours I barely know I'm still holding it. I don't like the dual shock sixaxis, that vibrating in my hands gets really annoying plus the dualshock is heavier because of the vibrating weight. When a game comes out for the 360 and PS3 I go for the PS3 version mainly because of the controller.
rotff! Batwing!
Way to be a troll, Darren. Jeesh.
"[so you can connect a] wired Xbox 360 controller to one's Xbox 360 console"
Wait, what?
you did finish reading that sentence, didn't you?
Saddest e-argument, ever.
I wish they would make something like this for SNES controllers. I bought one of the MadCatz Street Fighter 4 FightPads hoping it would be decent and while it is okay it is nowhere near as nice or refined as a MadCatz SNES controller I have that has a very similar design but has much better buttons and a tighter d-pad.
PS3 Controller OWNS for Street Fighter 4 / SF 2 HD Remix.... i tried playing with the XBox controller, and I'm not going to lie, it was a horrible experience...
As far as the FPS comments., i mean the only difference is the joystick placement, and it really isnt that big of a deal.. the PS3 Joysticks are lower but doesnt seem to bother me at all in games such as COD4 and KillZone 2 !!
Yup, this is essentially for SFIV, period. 360 pad rules all EXCEPT that game because the d-pad sucks harder than Steve Ballmer in a humility contest. Even then, the PS d-pads aren't as good as the SNES ones were.
$85 is a lot for an adapter, though, and yet it's still tempting because I wanna play SFIV w/o plotting against my controller.
PLAYSTATION 3!!!!!!!!!! ^______________^!!!! YA!!!! FTW!!!!!!!
XBOX 360 is way better then the PS3 controller.... Who cares about the D-pad? It basically is just 4 more buttons in the majority of games.. you dont really use them for anything else...
And for all the sony ps3 fanboys that say the ps3 is the better machine.. why is it that eventhough the xbox 360 is the older every report except those on sony fanboy sites say the xbox 360 is the more powerful and better machine? Just wondering....

And you don't consider yourself an Xbox 360 fanboy?
lol
if this worked the other way around - allowing you to use the 360 controller on the ps3 - I'd totally buy it.
its probably because I've been with the PS brand since PSX but I prefer the DS3 over the 360 controller anyday. the biggest problem I have with 360 pad is not just being uncomfortable but its just unresponsive. especially the D-pad and bumpers. Plus since the last update my controllers keep disconnecting. So I've been using the wired controller. But i dont see spending $85 for an adapter just to use my DS3 controller. Maybe if it was half the cost or worked for both consoles for people who do prefer the 360 controller.
Gosh..who the heck really wants this?
I thought this was a proper implementation of a Mouse and Keyboard on the Xbox 360 for all games.
Geez.
All this fuss over plugging in a PS3 controller?
From what I understand SF4 @ EVO 09 will be on PS3 . . . so I May give this a whirl. . . unless someone can tell me other wise about the Tournament.
Actually, I'm looking forward to picking this up for tekken 6 on the 360; the ps3 controller is the best controller for tekken, though I refuse to buy the ps3 just to play that one game.
Ummm, I hate to be the one to tell you, but the controller for the PS3 is the perfect controller, much more ergonomic than the bulky XBox360 controller.
I used to be Sony fan all the way but, after buying my first 360 and after quite a bit of use. Having tasted both worlds IMO, the 360 has my vote for best controller, I do agree though, that the 360's controller does have a crappy d-pad, and the Dualshock is more precise and accurate. Yet, the overall ergo dynamic-ism is very comfortable and strains less that hands of its user.
