Seems like HTC must be paying for advertising on Engadget. How many times to we have to read about HTC's latest batch of bricks?
Can we please have more coverage of the Toshiba TG01, Samsung anything - hell - more coverage of the iPhone - anything but more of the same crappy HTC bricks. Unless someone is building a new house of htc and mortar I don't think these are exactly news worthy. If the HTC phones were slimmer, had good BT and batteries lasted more than 20 minutes with BT enabled and exchange push turned on - otherwise I consider these more of a museum piece than something we should be reading about on engadget.
Just a refresher - here is some coverage you offered of the Toshiba TG01 http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/17/toshiba-tg01-hands-on-and-video-walkthrough back in February of a phone that looks about 2 to 3 years ahead of the technology offered by HTC.
No matter how you slice it that a lot of money. Nice phone, looks cool, but I bet it will have very poor battery life - just like every other HTC phone out there.
what? you don't like charging every 15 hours if you only have 1 bar of service or use the 3G connection frequently?
In Singapore, even if you buy a phone subsidized under contract, the phone is unlocked out of the box (same thing with the iPhone over there), so I don't really see people paying full price over there.
Purely ignorant statement Whiteboy. Unlocked phones are in this range because they're not cost-subsidized over a 2 year contract.
If you're going to be the first poster, at least make some sense and have a clue.
Buy an iPhone, it'll be the best investment you've ever made. HTC devices are slow and unpolished.
an iPhone or a Pre, or a G1. Being stuck with WinMo is just a sad state of affairs.
LOL ridiculous pricing for products that are basically rebadged with a rounded design!
When they learn to optimize their products, maybe I'll give them another shot!
While in the Netherlands, it costs €400 = $530
And the Touch Pro2 will cost €600 = $790

YEah its worth it tho.
Yeah right ,we all know u only spend $50 on your phone. Snapdragon my a$$!!!!
I could sell one of by 2 year old iPhones rite now for $200 easily , hold their value can't say that about htc touch pro, lacking 34000,. Games n music on it ate a joke ,. Think about all mp3 companies on the planet , yet 92% of the planet carries iPod ,.,. Sick dude,
I've had the past 4 HTC qwerty slide phones and i will not buy another. The main problem is and has always been that the next HTC phone you buy should have been the phone you got 2 models ago. The systematic crippling of features has become HTC's mantra and I for one will not stand for it. Plus, WinMo is a joke, XDA kept it interesting but Palm Pre here I come!
ill call shenanigans on HTC. as much as i love my touch pro, it has longstanding performance issues, which have never been fixed. its frustrating as hell, and even the new version uses the same processor, same 10 second to focus camrea bullshix.
whatever happened to the cdma rapheal update?
go full steam ahead with the touch pro 2, meanwhile im enjoying:
button presses that dotn register
intermittent freezes (processor has to catch up, ahrhrgghr)
landscape home screen that is missing functionality
typing a whole sentence then waiting for it to display itself
the phone is ACE. the software optimization is ASS.
oh, and forgot to mention the missing scrolling circle, which was a joy to use, just looked past by the devs. man, htc, yall killin me
While the prices don't necessarily surprise me, why anyone would spend that much on a phone is way beyond me. And I actually take care of my phones unlike almost everyone else I know.
That would be 70% of the planet not 92%
Just so you can go on trolling with the right .
This must be the MSRP bc the touch diamond 2 is currently selling for $574.99 at expansys: http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=179176
What a joke. A king's ransom for Windows-running handsets. They'll be lucky to sell a thousand of them wherever they sell them. Just because of a keyboard and background processing. Good luck with that.
Since HTC doesn't build its own OS it would be absolutely wise for them to start adopting and concentrating on Android or Symbian as its main OS so as to follow a similar strategy as RIM, Palm, Nokia and Apple. All those 4 companies do their own software + hardware engineering, giving them 100% control to tightly integrate their systems. This translates into building competitive advantage features in their handsets that are very difficult to replicate at the same level against those who do not have the same level of control in both, their hardware and software.
It's funny how some people drool over hardware specs and yet choose to use the worst mobile OS: WinMo. It's like a dinnosaur, all muscle, no brain.

Worst mobile OS? Maybe in user-friendliness, and lack of some built-in features, but I hardly would say that's the worse. The OS on dumb phones are generally cruddy, the iPhone didn't have some of the features that WinMo has had for years until 3.0, and Android hasn't really caught on, and the Pre hasn't even come out yet. I think WinMo has more brains than most others, but more or less, it's a rough diamond rather than a dinosaurs. I actually like dinosaurs.
(WinMobile + T-Mobile) * HighPrice = DOA
@Ry
I completely agree.
I bet those HTC guys are looking at these comments thinking, "Oh, yeah, keep it up...at this rate we won't have to tell you merchandise is always overpriced because if we charged you what it's really worth you would think it's not worth it!"
If this phone came out for Verizon, what do you guys think it would cost with a 2 year plan?
I want this phone but I'm not going higher than $200...and it'll probably be like $400+ or something if the ripoff HTC Touch Pro original is $350 on Verizon now.
I'm good with my Touch Pro for another year. By spring time next year, the Touch Pro 2 will be around $300 when the new incarnation of Touch Pro will be divulged before us.
I've got an HTC Fuze (Touch Pro) and I use it to the limit everyday. I've been planning on getting the Touch Pro 2 ever since it was announced, but I think I might hold off until this "Super Star" platform is revealed. To anyone wondering about the sanity of paying $400,$500 or even $800 for a phone - it's MUCH more useful than a laptop can be ... in your pocket. I'd never consider taking my laptop with me 90% of the time simply because of this phone. Besides, Windows Mobile has Remote Desktop built in and I can access my laptop via 3G on a VGA screen (VGA on the TP/Fuze/D1, WVGA on TP2 /D2 and Touch HD) and do everything I need from anywhere. All in all, I'd rather travel with ONLY my phone than lug around the lappy too.
how does the touch pro2 justify the $150 over the touch diamond2?
both have identical CPU, memory
diamond2 has 5MP camera compared with pro2's 3.2MP
$150 slideout keyboard?
I'm gonna be completely stuck soon
Deciding between:
Touch Diamond 2
Omnia HD
Palm Pre
LG Arena
Sony Idou
Sony W995
Toshiba TG01
And
New iPhone (releasing in June)
Wifi and HSDPA are a must for me,
and a touch screen is preferred
