Tata Indica soon to hit the streets of Norway: it's electric!

We heard tell of an all-electric, Norway-bound Tata Indica back in September of last year, and now it looks like it's almost ready to hit the streets. Autoblog Green is reporting that the makers of the super-cheap Nano expect to have the electric Indica rolling off the line either late this year or early in 2010. While the Indica EV (above) that was shown at the SAE World Congress is not the model that will be available in Norway, we can probably expect it to look something like it. We don't know any details about pricing, but expect the available number of autos to be "limited." No further info about the car yet, but we'll keep you posted. Hit the read link for a full gallery of the EV.

Nice name for a car. I bet this will be popular in Amsterdam.
Tata Indica?
Boobs and pot, frat house parking will be filled with these things!
Tata's Indica stands for India's Car!
"It was Tata Motors, which developed the first indigenously developed Light Commercial Vehicle, India’s first Sports Utility Vehicle and, in 1998, the Tata Indica, India’s first fully indigenous passenger car. Within two years of launch, Tata Indica became India’s largest selling car in its segment."

We all know that but yesterday was 420 and alot of us like to joke around. Nice car, I'd buy one and yes I smoke pot.
I don't know where you "head" tell of this, but I'm guessing it was somewhere where English was not their first language... :)
Who the hell was this "Eng" person anyway and why do I have to speak Their language ir anyone else for that matter?
next up the sativa...
and then of course, the indica/sativa hybrid...
The hybrid version can be fueled by your favorite "herb", and the exhaust pipe is conveniently routed into the cabin.
Its too soon to say. Maybe in the next 4 ~ 20 years.
Boogie woogie, woogie?
Indica = Indian Car?
That's what came to my mind when I read that... makes sense to me!
Actually, in slang:
Tata = Boob(s)
Indica = Weed
If this car came with either as standard featuers, it'd be all win.
advil got it right.
@The Dude, think outside the ass!
Given Norwegian infrastructure, I can't imagine 'normal' people buying this. I'll certainly stop to look should I spot one in Bergen though :)
I'm just waiting for the plug-in hybrids to make their proper appearance. All the benefits* of an electric car, but with the versatility of a fossile-fuel one!
*(well, except a few monetary ones I suppose, and a few parking ones, oh and the bus lanes. Aww shit)
"Given Norwegian infrastructure, I can't imagine 'normal' people buying this."
Please explain.
Norwegian infrastructure doesn't permit or allow higher speeds. This car looks about as normal as anything else. Other electric cars often look different to combustion engine ones. Speaking of which, the norwegian car people are speaking about here is kewet buddy. I prefer that over this. Also there is think, if they could get cars out the doors.
Why did they choose Norway? Bit random, isn't it?
well there is already a electric car being produced there, and tata claims to have cooperation with a "norwegian party"...
shit, that's for Sarig ^
Because Tata Motors bought the controlling shares in Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon, a Norwegian company working on electric vehicles. Now the Tata subsidiary is launching the electric variant of its parent company's top hatch which its making in Norway.

Quiet, you.
Is it just me, or does it look like some engine part is flying out of the chassis?
If that was the case, talk about it not being ready for prime time! "Have care when turn on ignition with car hood open."
It's called a spotlight. Forget the beyond part, tech as a whole ain't your thang, buddy.
I know it's a spotlight, douche. From the emitting haze of light looking like exhaust or rapid movement, to its peculiar position above the engine and the angle of the shot taken, it just looks like something shot out of the engine block.
So you don't see so good, either?
Duh. It is indeed an electric engine on a stand a bit behind the car. Watch the slideshow in the "read"-link.
Tata Motors really need to change their name. The own the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, would be funny if they decide to call it
Tata Jaguar and Tata LandRover... They'd be missing a Tata Cougar....
LOL. Tata is the last name of it's founder Jamshedji Tata. He has an entire city named after him in India, Jamshedpur.
well nice to see tata doing something on international front...here in india the duties on hybrids are insane....civic hybrid is way more expensive than the regular one...
indica is a really popular car out here in india...probably the most frequently seen one on indian roads!!!
Last time I checked out the market capitalization of Tata it was way more than GM and Ford put together plus sundry....
I guess I'm sticking it out until the Tata Ruderalis. In the states.
Oooo, someone knows their greenage!
It's made from compressed pot! Far out, man.
stfu
tl;dr : it's electric
What is it with Tata and tiny wheels? India needs to learn that Western culture is subconsciously grossed out by small wheels.
Kind of beyond the point of making a cheapy eletrical vehicle that costs $2 grand to stick 4 $100 17" wheels on it.
Isn't this the old Rover 100 that was sold for a short while in the UK until the Rover Group went bust a few years back ? At the time it was too expensive for what you got compared to other small sized cars.
The indica was rebadged and sold as the CityRover in the UK, the Rover 100 was a different car which was phased out in 1998.
I think one verse would have sufficed.
Looks like a decent little car to me - better than that shoe box that they showed off the first time. I'd buy this, maybe even one for each day of the week - in different colors! :P
