T-Mobile-branded HTC Touch Pro2 appears in the wild
It's really no secret that the Touch Pro2 is destined to arrive in the States on T-Mobile, but this is the first time we've seen the T-Mo edition not, uh, drippings with goo. And yes, that's a US-spec keyboard and the "fewer dots" US T-Mobile logo, so this looks like the real thing -- hopefully that means a launch is imminent. Hit the read link for a bunch more shots.
Update: Looks like the site is down for now, but thankfully Google cache has it on hand.

This or the Touch HD...hmmm.
As long as you are not in the US, both seem like a viable solution depending on your yearn for a keyboard. If you are in the US, the Touch HD 3G bands do not work here. In my mind, with my requirements and expectations from such a device, that is a no go.
On the other hand, I do not have enough fingers to count the phones that have once had US carrier branding (pre-release) that never made it to US soil (3rd party vendors notwithstanding). I hope this is not the case here. I never thought I would see the day, that I could consider going back to T-Mobile.
With LTE around the corner however, maybe a 2 year contract is just about right :D
I'm stuck with the same decision. I guess it will depend if T-Moby UK starts to offer it on contract and what the price will be sim-free. I need something small to replace my Athena/Ameo.
God Damn these carrier lockin's that seem to be going on these days.. :(
Why oh why is this not running android?
My T-mobile contract's up next week and I'm totally dithering on what to get next, tired of blackberries.
G1?
Wait for the next iPhone and deal with AT&T's suckage?
Wait for a Pre and deal with Sprint's super-suckage?
- Rendered indecisive by too many mediocre options
1 reason: Exchange.
(and no-one post back some fledgling open-source solution for android - not going to cut it for big business!)
@bdav: actually the ROM for sapphire(Magic) has built in exchange support and it's made by HTC. I would know, I'm using it.
Dude,
I was in your situation 2 month ago. My T-Mobile contract expired and El Paso (my home town) did not have 3G yet, so I switched to AT&T and got an iphone. AT&T sucks, and rollover is pointless (if I'm not going over 1 month I probably won't go over the next :/). I needed a phone that took good pictures and video so I ditched the iphone and got a Nokia N85. It has a great camera but everything else sucks...
When is "the(e) phone" going to be released. Android OS (like G1), superb design and build (like iphone), and great camera/video quality(NSeries w/Carl Zeiss) ???!!!
I am in phone purgatory right now...waiting for the prayers of the Idou, N97, new Android phone, or Omnia HD. Plz tell me Apple isn't the only company that can create a near perfect phone. I refuse to jump the Apple bandwagon.....
Or suffer from T-Mobile's lack of 3G coverage....
Because cheap OSes get cheap hardware, apparently.
I too am waiting for a decent Android phone with a decent qwerty.... apparently all companies are slapping Android on their worst hardware.
All the 2009 devices are currently in the HTC Washington office being touted around by the employees. I personally have a T2 unlocked working with ATT. Yes they will be coming to the US, look for a release in the summer/fall.
oOOo. At least this one has the version of touch flo with landscape support. That's a one up from the diamond 2.
To be fair, if you've got a diamond2 you'll only be going into landscape for a particular thing, rather than having it sitting with the keyboard open.
I was a huge fan of tf3d. I even installed the new fouch flow 3d that was ported from the touch pro 2 to my fuze with landscape support but then I tried the new SPB mobile shell 3.0 in an hour of trial decided to make it permanent. You should definetly give it a try.
Every Diamond / Pro (1 and 2) has landscape support for apps where it makes sense. Further, all those phones can be forced into landscape, you just need to enable it.
Where do you get Spb Mobile Shell 3.0? I've been looking for it but haven't been able to find it.
You can download it directly from spb's website:

Looks to be from the same person whom had it with goo before.. Maybe he took off the goo? Goo goo go boom(bye)? -.-
Yay! can't wait!!!
Great, I'll be able to get it from T-Mobile unlocked and use on ATT.
If the previous TouchPro is any indication, ATT will alter the keyboard layout from the Sprint version when they get it.
They'll do the same to the T-Mobile Pro2.
Why would you want to do that? The T-Mobile TP2 probably won't have AT&T 3G bands.
Actually, it will. Go look up the FCC report. I'll just need a ROM update to use the other frequencies. That won't be hard to get. I also reinstall the OS on all new WinMo phones I get to clean out the bloatware from the carrier.
My ATT Tilt as been running touchflo for the last year. Developers have a found a way to utilized the ATI graphics chip that was disable in the Tilt which now lets the touchflo work. It also allowed me to gut out all the crap ATT loads on the phone.
Just wondering what rom are you running on your tilt
I just drooled on my keyB.
This means USA 3G bands obviously.
I'll be getting this to replace my touch pro. Cant wait!
+1
great thing about tmobile is they dont put much bloatware on there smartphones... there smartphones are basically like an unlocked phone with a tmobile myfavs app... I hate verizons phones becuase they generally load so much crap onto there phones to the point that they almost all look the same on the inside.
whoa!
did they change the appearance of the case/body? It look different from the touch pro 2 in HTC site...or is it me
someone better fix that read link...
Why is this coming out on T-Mobile? I literally can't think of one person I know that has it here in Western NY. Actually yes, the one person I can think of that has it hates it so bad he can't wait to get out of his contract. I love my Diamond, and I would love to have this phone too, but I'll have to wait until it or the Diamond2 hits Sprint.
of course, because the world revolves around western NY.
Seriously. I mean, it's not like people who do not live in Western New York have cell phones.
Hopefully Verizon does not cripple the TP2 when they get it like they did with the first one. (half the ram as everyone else)
I wouldn't hold my breath.
+1 for the Ghostbusters 2 reference. Hopefully the touch pro 2 is faster that its older brother. My TP is slower than molasses
Why do the cell phone Gods hate CDMA?
Ummm... Market share (on a global scale, not just a North American scale). Plus, everyone knows that Europeans are much cooler than us...
Gah... This is what I was waiting for, but lost hope and got the G1 last year. I wonder what this baby will cost.
i really wish they made a unlocked Andriod version or if the people over at xda-developers.com figured out a way to flash it that would be great
comparing to HTC's own photos, it looks like they changed the keyboard layout (bottom row), also I cannot see a front camerat, although picture is pretty blurry so it might be there actually.
US carriers don't have front facing cameras.... just the rest of the world.
@Josh, not really ATT has a phone that can do video calling, but I doubt someone on the other end has it. But you are right that pretty much every other 3G GSM network has it in the world.
AT&T does video sharing; however, no phone that supports it has a front facing camera. It only supports one way video, so you're not having a true video chat/conference. IMO, it's nothing more than a joke.
They changed the back, the metallic area is wider but doesn't go as far down the back, and speaker grill isn't the full length either
if this is the real deal then i think their choice of colors is awful. why they didn't keep htc's color choice of silver and black with the shiny edges is beyond my guess.
what's the laptop?
Yes! :D Ive had the wing for 3 years, it broke last week so i picked up the G1 and had to extend my contract! good thing Tmobile is going to let me return it and just have to wait till this comes you with my old razor! ha ha Razor, yesterdays Iphone!
Please SPRINT dont let me down.......
Nice Ghostbusters yanosh refrence.
