Dell Mini 10 gets six-cell battery option, added pizzazz

Dell's Mini 10 netbook has been a bit more of a work in progress than some early adopters may have hoped, but it is at least getting increasingly more usable, with Dell now finally offering the oft-requested six-cell battery as a selectable option. That'll set you back just $30, and should give you a sizable boost over the stock three-cell battery, which is lucky to get three hours on a charge. If you're looking for a little something extra, you can now also now get the netbook emblazoned with some of the snazzy designs seen on other Dell laptops, although those will set you back up to $60 extra compared to the basic black or white options.

Sounds like a complete no-brainer for $30!
can these get OSX as easy on them as the 9?
No, a different graphics chipset than the 9 prevents the 10 from being hackintoshed.
Intel GMA500, burn in hades.
The mini 9 can run Ubuntu AND OS X, and the mini 10 can run neither. Worthless piece of crap.
@ethana
Yes worthless. To that major 1% demographic that will install those on a Mini 10.
Linux hippies need to stop living in their world :p
Its still a Dell, I have a 1520 and I have been thoroughly disappointed time and time again by their service and customer support.
If their support for Windows customers sucks as horribly as their support for Ubuntu customers, it's a wonder they even still exist.
If you need a major corporation to support your ability to use an OS, Linux was NOT the right choice.
I like pepperoni and extra cheese on my pizzazz.
Sorry but Dell failed when they removed the ability to upgrade the RAM on the Mini 10. So you're stuck with 1GB and there is nothing you can do to change this. If you wanted to get a netbook of similar specs, go with anyone else but Dell.
yea i bought my gf a Acer One and upgraded the ram to 2GB last night. Its really snappy now.
Personally, i'd invest in a ideapad S10e, and a ocz apex or vortex ssd. but that's just me. on topic I hear the mini12 with that 720p screen is pretty nice.
Test only
yeah, if it werent for the non-upgradeable ram, i would have seriously considered this netbook despite the fact that it cant be used as a hackintosh
..nor can it run Ubuntu or OpenSuse. ..or OpenSolaris or FreeBSD.
A computer isn't a bargain if it doesn't do what you want.
Well, to qualify that, you can run Ubuntu 8.04 on it, and that's about the newest OS you can get from Dell anyways, but 8.04 is a whole year old now, and.. blehh. The first thing I do with any Ubuntu Dell is wipe their crap preinstall and put an up-to-date version on, but you couldn't even do that with a mini 10, nor could you install any worthwhile alternatives.
Yeah definitely. I would have gone with a Dell Mini 10 myself until I found out the RAM is not upgradable. That pretty much sealed the fate of not EVER getting a Mini 10 until they change it.
this is getting ridiculous... from optional trackpad from lenovo to optional "performance" battery from dell. maybe we'll get the option to choose "standard" keyboard or "performance" keyboard as well soon.... completely incomprehensible and and absolute pinnacle of cost-saving...
Wow. $30 is an entirely reasonable.
Could I use a the battery in a mini 9?
One by one, they keep adding the components we're waiting for. Now all Dell needs to do is add the other options:
TV Tuner
WWAN
GPS
2 GB RAM (Upgradeable preferrably)
C'mon, Dell! What's with all the delays?
I also want to see better graphics and a fingerprint reader.
Dell mini 10 laptop is a new netbook series laptop. But any dell laptop need another options, such as dell mini 9 laptop. http://www.discount-laptopbattery.com/dell-inspiron-mini9-laptop-battery.htm
Hey ethana2, dunno what mini 10 you're using, but I'm writing this from a Mini 10 running Ubuntu 9.04, AND its running at the native 1024x576 resolution.
I used netbook remix, which apart from needing updated graphics drivers, works 100% out of the box - sound, trackpad, wireless, webcam all work perfectly and it picked up a vodafone broadband adapter too.
If you need your hand holding, then Ubuntu probably isn't for you, but don't whine about it being a worthless piece of crap. Ubuntu installed on this as easy as on any other machine I've tried it on.
The custom NBR desktop is slow, but just switch to the proper desktop and it runs real fast.
