MSI's X-Slim X340 CULV thin and light bait and switch?
Uh, MSI. The $1,100 price tag you're showing for the X-Slim X340 CULV-based thin-and-light laptop on your retail site is not "under $1,000" as you promised three weeks ago. Then again, maybe you'll slip in a lesser spec'd model by the time the "Out of stock" badge changes to "Shipping?" Know this MSI, we're watching you.

Eww, Core 2 Solo
Core Solo which is only 5,5 watt of power sipping... Maybe not the most powerful but the low powerusage is rather sweet. A MacbookAir C2D uses 20 watts so its pretty neat I would say. Put that together with a price of half an x301 or Vaio TT I´m kinda getting interested for the first time in what MSI brings.
Not just any Core 2 Solo, It is THE latest! how many years ago did that came out again?
I know you were just trying to be funny, but this processor is actually the new CULV Core 2 Solo, which is supposed to only use 5W. And if you think this is bad, then you should never try to use anything with an Atom processor.
The Macbook air uses a downclocked Core 2 Duo, Not even a Low-voltage version --- Core 2 Duo ULVs use ~10 Watts.
The Atom is pathetic, and even a Core 2 Solo can be pretty slow.
Are YOU watching MSI, or is Andrew R. watching them?
Andrew Ridgeley?
Forget about X340.
Correct me if I'm wrong but is that VGA I'm seeing?
yea..in case you haven't been keeping up..intel is always ahead on the latest video technology
Don't worry- it seems to have HDMI as well... As if that's of any real use, but hey, it's there.
How come Engadget didn't mention the iBabyShaker app?
I think it's best not to.
Utterly disgusting program.
I'm sure the extra $100 is for the awesome black color, which, because of it not being an Apple product, is totally justifiable and not in any way frivolous.

The ports, especially the ethernet port, stick out in the black version. Why couldn't they make it completely black?
Nothing a black Sharpie won't fix! =)
They have an optional 8 cell battery. Hmmm...

I wonder if their 1.4GHz processor will be enough for the hungry-on-resources Vista..
considering atom is .. im pretty sure a CULV will be
its still missing a e-sata port or they could have at least combined the e-sata and usb together like toshiba...
Dudes, they could have lowered the price $1 and they would have been safe.
Fail. $1099 > "under $1000"
hmm, i have bought for 1000$ refurbished Dell E4200 (1.00 kg, centrino 2, 3 GB ram profi display, extra batery ...) and to my collegue for the same 1000 $ i have bought about 3 months used Apple Air. Yes, both is used stuff, but still almost new, and top brand products far better then this new crap from the lowest level.
But on the other hand - if i would want to buy something for e.g. 10 people in a company, i would definitely need same hw, so i would need to buy the new stuff, and this would be one of my few favorites.
What what is stupid is that optional wifi and BT - today this must be a standard and using light notebook with wires is stupid
"Bait and Switch" does not fit this scenario. If the same product is available for a higher price than advertised, it would be false advertising, not bait and switch. That would be switching out the product for a different one, hence the 'switch' part of the term.
Not to mention that MSI never 'advertised' the product as sub-1000, they may have said it in pre-release talk, but not in advertising a sales price in any ordering scenario.
//used 'hence' today, I'm done
Try $949 for a 1.40GHz Core Solo U3500, 2GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, B/G/N Wireless and Bluetooth. I have one on my desk and did I mention this thing is one smokin' piece of hardware! Look for it on www.q2designs.com here in the next week!!!
The Eee was originally promised to be at the $200 price point. It was double that.
