Acer's 11.6-inch Aspire One gets a spec list, release date

We've already gotten a good look at Acer's new 11.6-inch Aspire One netbook, and even gotten word of some of the specs, but it looks like Acer has now removed any last bit of mystery on its German website, where it has finally let loose a complete spec list. Now officially dubbed the Aspire One 751, the netbook packs an Atom Z520 processor (as opposed to the Z530 that was initially rumored), along with up to 2GB of RAM, built-in Bluetooth, your choice of three or six-cell batteries, optional 3G, and a 1366x768 resolution on that 11.6-inch display -- not to mention your choice of XP or Vista. Still no official word on a release 'round here, unfortunately, but it looks like it'll be hitting at least some parts of Europe later this month for just over $500.

You can get 2GB and still do XP? I thought that wasn't allowed. When are we going to see some netbooks running on ION or at least that GN40?
Yes, please! Ion please! With dual-core Atom please! For $300 please!
I swear, it seems like these companies are completely oblivious to the fact that Ion renders ALL of their "new" offerings obsolete. Why even release a netbook with these garbage internals anymore? WHY?
its cheap
@216
Ion nettop is almost twice as cheap... Now we need Ion netbook.
What does "twice as cheap" mean? Isn't that like saying someone is "twice as young?"
I think he meant 1/2 the price. No need to get all snippy.
Ion + Win7 ftw.
+1 for you good man.
Personally, I'm not buying another laptop until Windows 7 comes out... Just kinda seems pointless right now.
Cuzzz you can buy one off craigslist with no OS for very short money and throw on the Windows 7 RC until June 2010 for free and then just pay when you have to.
Damn it! you just stole my words! both of you.
F this just buy a sweet ass mac.
Or get an iPod Touch.
SICK!! Where can I get a "sweet ass mac" (preferably with mouse buttons) for $500?!
Don't we have 'Lowest Ranked' on Engadget anymore? I kinda miss it.

there you go
Yes, there is still a lowest ranked. But the Engadget commenting system is so fucked up and broken that you can't see it unless you isolate the comment thread by clicking on the date of the first comment. One of the internet's most read blogs under one of the most giant corporations (AOL), and nobody can fix the comments? What the HELL?
LOL you ass, you linked me to an auction that ends in over 6 days.
Atom Z520? o.O
Damn it, I've been waiting for about a month and now the news of a slower cpu. Bummer.
I like that one. That's $200 less than the HP dv2.
Anything that big isn't considered a netbook in my opinion. The entire idea behind netbooks are to be small and ultraportable. 8" screens were nice, but still a little too big. They need to start making devices with 5" screen.
Having an 11 inch screen makes it a cheap laptop, not a netbook.
I bet there's some kind of ergonomic factor that governs this. I just personally go by the crapiness of the keyboard, but others go by the rate by which you'll get CVS or cataracts. This probably means that for most people, a
Looks great except for the chipset and slower processor =(
In what way is this a netbook?
They probably wrote netbook on the packaging somewhere just to trick the fools into thinking that they were getting a netbook instead of an underpowered notebook. There's a thin line between netbook and nutbook. In three months you won't be able to tell the difference between a netbook and a notebook unless you find out what processor it's using. The size and price has already started to overlap into notebook territory.
They were all like "it's our biggest netbook screen ever" and I was all like "11.anything inches isn't a netbook, it's just an epic ultraportable fail" and they were like "we don't care, you're not even really talking to us" and I was like "well played"
The biggest netbook screen should be 10" and then it better be all screen no bezel. I know I'm waiting for a dual core atom in an ION. Then I will buy.
Now the screen size is already up to almost 12" and price up to $500. What the F***. Might as well just buy a normal notebook with a decent processor in it. This is the progression of the growing netbook. Starting out with 8" or 9" screens and now they're up to 12". I'm waiting to see the first 17" screen netbook with an Atom processor for $700.
Nice. I'll buy it if the mouse pad is centered and its a "non-glare" screen.
Netbook, notebook, whatever. This looks sweet, although, I have a feeling that "just over $500" gets you a 3 cell battery, 1GB of RAM and WinXP. The big question is how much for fully loaded?
Want dual core, HD playbackable, HDMI
New Intel US15W Chipset (TDP 2.3Watt) features a GMA 500 graphic system. "Rather than being developed in-house, this core is a PowerVR SGX core licensed from Imagination Technologies". We will see what this baby can do, but don't expect much. It is basically a smart phone GPU.
Can't be any worse than the current 945GSE and the GMA950...
