Lenovo reveals updated, 3G-equipped S10-2 netbook in user manual

We already caught sight of a slightly mysterious, 3G-equipped Lenovo netbook last month courtesy of the FCC, and it looks like Lenovo itself is now adding to the speculation, with a recently revealed user manual all but confirming an updated S10-2 netbook. While there's still no word on complete specs, it does appear that this is more than just a minor update, with the netbook apparently sporting a different hinge and some rounded edges, along with an extra USB port (bring the total up to three), a larger trackpad, a slightly revised keyboard and button layout, and some new access bays that'll let you get at the RAM, hard drive, and wireless card. Unfortunately, it seems that Lenovo has also seen fit to remove one of the big selling points of the original S10, the ExpressCard slot, although the built-in 3G does at least makes that trade-off a bit more manageable. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but it seems like Lenovo could be getting official with this one any day now.

Trackpoint please!!!
+1
But rumor out there that Lenovo is making a thinkpad netbook. I would totally jump on it =D
As long as it continues to run OS X well, I'll be happy with any upgrade made.
This is why you should get a mac ^
What is?
yeah i am curious too .... what is the reason again?
As a Mac user, this is why I'd get an XP machine.
Lenovo bummed me out when they killed system update tool last month. Hope they replace it with something even better. Not found of hunting down the latest drivers when we supporting 8 different models.
question: can we expect to see netbook specs go up a bit once windows 7 is released?
Isn't the whole point that they won't need to?
Although I hardly expect the feature-creep to stop; today's netbooks are quite different beasts compared to the 701s.
The S10 already runs Windows 7 just fine.
I like the bump is specs. Can deal without Expresscard since it has 3G. Nor AT ALL crazy about fusing with the case. The original S10 was so thin and clean. Making if more rounded (and poofy) doesn't work. Especially if the dimensions increased. It was one of the smallest out there with a 10.2 inch screen. But in a slightly higher screen, GPS, and PLEASE a dual core Atom and we'll be rocking..
I lusted after an original S-10, but I'm glad I held off after others learned about its almost-too-hot-to-touch bottom and relatively lame battery life. However, the continued big selling point for me was the ExpressCard slot, and loss of that slot turns the S-10 from something genuinely different to just another slightly (or very) overpriced netbook.
I wish Lenovo success with an updated S-10--it's great to see that they've updated the keyboard to have full-size shift keys, for example--but I will again wait to see how this netbook compares to the other competition, both performance-wise and price-wise.
well thats awesome news.. i was just about to buy the S10.. but on their site (australia) says its 4 weeks to ship from factory and then another 4 days for delievery; i just thought they were so popular they underestimated the market.. but this makes more sense...
personally.. the express card slot ive never used in my life, its there, but for me its another vent for dust to get into, I dont really care about 3G so hope they have a non-3G version aswell and i guess noone noticed
BUT THE RIGHT SHIFT KEY IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!!!!!
its a big long button under the return key.. not like the current model which has a tiny button next to the up arrow... which is about time netbooks as a whole addressed this ''issue''.
heres hoping to a spec upgrade and a cheaper price with a bigger range of colours.. (in auz we only have black and white, even though the red with white battery looks sooo good).
as a Lenovo s10 owner, I am excited to see three usb ports on the S10-2. I will definitely be considering upgrading to the next incarnation of Lenovos netbook.
