MSI debuts GX623, GX633 laptops with "Turbo Drive" technology

MSI's new GX623 and GX633 laptops aren't the first to boast the company's so-called Turbo Drive technology, but we're never ones to turn down the opportunity to press a turbo button, even if that turbo button may not fully deliver on its awesome promise. Expectedly, both of these are in the same vein as MSI's previous GX630 model, and boast the same 15.4-inch display, along with a Core 2 Duo processor and ATI Radeon HD4670 graphics on the GX623 model, or an AMD X2 Turion Ultra processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M graphics on the GX633 model. Otherwise, you can expect each to pack MSI's ECO Engine, which'll let you easily switch between a gaming mode and more energy-efficient options, along with up to 4GB of RAM, a max 500GB hard drive, and all the usual modern amenities like 802.11n WiFi, built-in Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel webcam. No word on prices just yet, but it looks like both should be rolling out as we speak.

What exactly is a 130M equivalent to, again? These new Nvidia designations make my head hurt. I'm glad I bought my notebook back when it was simple (9800M)
130M is a 9600M after die shrink and some overclocking.
"The Nvidia GeForce GT 130M is a DirectX 10 graphics card for notebooks and technically a higher clocked GeForce 9650M GT with a lower current consumption."

Also, lucky! I just have the 8600M GT. I'm waiting for it to fry. :(
The 9650M.
280M-9800M GTX
260M-9800M GT
120M-9600M
110M-9500M
105M-9400M
wrong... 9800M GTX and GTX280M are different, as are the 9800M GT and GTX260M
They put the Intel processor with the ATI graphics, and the ATI processor with the Nvidia graphics... Is it Backwards Day at MSI?
I was thinking the exact same thing. What's with the AMD/Nvidia and Intel/ATI?
It's nice that it comes with Intel or AMD processors. Is it the new Bluetooth 3.0? Nvidia graphic cards go with Intel. ATI with AMD. This is backwards but not uncommon.

I miss it when computers had a turbo button. I never found myself in a situation when I wouldn't use the turbo button on the Intel 386, but it was nice to know I use use less power if I needed it.
Like the old turbo button but it's OFF by default.
Which graphics are better? ATI HD4670 or Nvidia GeForce 130M? Their desktop models are similar in performance: ATI HD4670 vs. 9600GT.
HD4670 - up to 7600 points in 3DMark06,
130M - about 6500 points.
I have the MSI GX620 (on it right now!) and it's a fantastic laptop. It definitely delivers solid gaming performance for a laptop around $1000.
How's the keyboard on that unit (like the other guy asked)?
ive heard the keyboard on these r pretty springy. any truth behind this? thx
Also I guess alot of engadget readers are below the age of 5, because nobody seems to remember than Intel and ATi were always paired while AMD and Nvidia were always paired back in the day. That's why most people were pretty surprised when AMD bought out ATi. Bad news for people like me who always backed Intel and ATi and hated Nvidia and AMD. A long time ago AMD had some really different ideas about processors and were probably alot better than intels for a short period but that time is long gone and Intel has been the obvious choice, in the past few years, of anyone who doesn't want to completely suck. ATi, on the other hand has always rocked with top of the line performance and supreme build quality, not to mention the fact that Nvidia has never quite been able to keep up with ATi's ability to have the latest technologies and breakthroughs in the graphics industry. ATi continues to somehow out smart and best Nvidia in every way despite the fact that the video games industry, for the most part, has turned its back on ATi and now nearly every game that comes on the market is optimized for Nvidia. But I will always love how Nvidia cards only barely out pace ATi cards on Nvidia optimized software and even sometimes perform worse. But I guess nvidia deserves the same respect as apple does, if someone can convince the masses to buy a vastly inferior product for copious amounts of money, they truly have a gift.
