Dell's rainbow-hued Inspiron desktops now available

There's a certain breed of person out there that wants everything to be available in a plethora of colors and options, infinitely customizable to fit the personality of whatever room it'll inhabit. That breed of person is us. Dell's customizable addition to the Inspiron line -- which includes the 537 and the 537s -- present the buyer with a host of options -- eight different colors, a choice of Intel Celeron, AMD Sempron, Core 2 Quad and Phenom X4 CPUs, up to 8GB of RAM, integrated Intel graphics or ATI Radeon GPUs, and up to 750GB HDD for the slim tower and 1TB for the mini-tower. The Promise Pink model is part of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure program, and we have a feeling we'll be seeing it pop up over on Della any minute now. The starting price for the lowest-end model is $299 and they're available now. One more shot after the break.

Awesome. I was wondering when these were going to become available.
Dell think lively colours will make up for its sorry products.......what a shame
marketing rules this world.
Apple thinks lively colors will make up for its sorry PMPs......
Marketing rules this world indeed.
Sorry products? I recently got a studio xps, core i7 920, 6gb ddr3, ati 4850, 640gb sata II machine from dell outlet (cert. Refurb) for about $700 including free 2 day shipping. It renders avchd lightning fast and games look great. I'm very satisfied. Dell has changed alot.
@Cake
You think the Apple PMP's are sorry, are you serious? So what type do you own because I am very curious, I hope i didnt offend you with my comment about Dell, I take it you own one of these sorry machines LMFAO
@leapingmadly
Wow sounds like you got a great deal on a powerful machine, thats great and all but my only complaint is that its running windows =(
Sure I'll play along with your antics.
I own Cowon PMPs and all my computers are custom built because I don't like the idea of cheapo foxconn components in my computer.
@leapingmadly.... dell hasn't changed a bit... i ordered an awesome configuration of dell's studio 15 laptop back in november and when it came the fingerprint reader went haywire and kept registering unsuccessful swipes when nothing was touching it. I spent hours talking to customer support in India. They kept sending back and forth between customer care and technical support and I finally ended up getting through to the right department. I got my replacement ordered and was all happy until it was delivered about a week late on new year's eve, and when i opened the box and turned on the computer i began to notice the same exact problem, only I noticed it much sooner this time. I immediately called dell back and just asked for a refund in exchange for the return of the first computer, second computer, and tv tuner (basically everything i bought from them except for the microsoft office which was non-refundable because it was software, but it was a good deal anyway and i'm using it now anyway). They said it was okay, I did everything properly, shipped off the boxes, and low and behold the following month, i was on the phone with dell finances because i was beginning to get billed for the computer. But anyway, I went to best buy on like January 2nd and bought a really nice Sony Vaio which I am currently typing on.... Oh, no, Dell hasn't changed.... they're still that junky computer company that's trying to be WalMart while they throw pieces of hardware together.
Rainbow hued?! Those colors would make for one damn ugly rainbow.
inspiron-chromatic?
yes cake, for most people emotions and bragging rights are far more valuable than some technical details that they are ignorant of.
Taste da rainbow!
Hmmm..... tastes like 1998.
Nice on Dell, but I rather see you put more oomph or cut prices of the Studio Hybrid.
yawwn..
Oh bruddah.
That's my wife's shade of purple and her birthday is coming up.
Good thing I have an account.
Choice is such a frightening concept to applets. Aluminum, white, black. That's it. That's all. Tiny, underpowered & overpriced mini, iMac and Mac pro. That's it. That's all. The air, mb, mb pro, that's it. That's all. Configuration options ... so limited as to be laughable. Choices ... even in hardware options ... so scary. Let's not get into peripherals ... hdmi, blu-ray ... the caterwauling grows deafening. Battleship grey UI's. That's it. That's all.
And then these engadget jokers want to talk about color. Ugh! Buncha crap! Fugly! Coverup!
What - you collect them all to make a complete rainbow or something...?
How exactly do you get these configured with AMD chips? I was just at the DELL site via the link in this post, and there is no option to configure any of the Desktops with AMD processors...
Ok the reason I cannot find where to configure this, is because according to DELL they don't offer this system with any AMD chips.... you might want to correct the article..
yellow?
I actually submitted a $10,000 lawsuit against Dell for their entire Inspiron line. I had ordered a computer that exceeded my standards, so I had hoped. Two days after their 21-day satisfaction guarantee (the day after Christmas), the CPU fan began running at speeds higher than what was "capable" (as checked in BIOS testing) even when the CPU was under 20%. I requested a refund then and was denied; somewhat understandable. So I let them ship me a new fan, but I still had the issue. They then sent me a second model computer (after leaving me without a computer for a week and a half) as the part didn't correct it. Once I received the second computer, I experienced the same issues along with a driver issue (atikmdag?). Knowing a little bit about computers, I instantly went to update the drivers. I must have done so at least twenty times between what I did on my own and what Dell told me to do. After they realized that the drivers weren't at fault (or perhaps they were, but there weren't any others) they turned me to reinstalling the operating system. Trying five times without avail, they sent a third computer. As if my patients couldn't get any thinner, they gave me the wrong CPU, an IGPU (I ordered a discrete GPU), and forgot the wireless card. Needless to say, this computer also had the driver issues directly out of the box (though the fan issues were fixed!). And after reviewing the Dell Technical Chat e-mails they had sent me, the chat totaled over ten hours. An additional 30+ hours were spent on the telephone with their chat over the course of three months.
There is no excuse for a company to do this to a consumer. I don't care how dressed up they are, I wouldn't recommend Dell to anyone looking for reliable Customer Service or quality control. Looking over their forums, it would seem that I am not the only one with these issues.
next time put it on your credit card and send it back and dispute it.
So that's worth $10k these days, huh? My friend who had a Macbook battery catch on fire didn't get that much.
Going through the credit card and saying that is was a lemon was my first course of action, which of course, couldn't be done unless it was after the warranty (which made no sense to me, but I spoke with three different representatives).
Swap Blue and Green and put pink on the end. Next puzzle please?
damn, that was quick.
