All signs are pointing toward an early June
Pre launch at this point; of course, we know it'll launch in the first half of the year -- and we're quickly running out of first half -- but we've heard increased chatter the past few weeks suggesting that
June 5 or
June 7 are particularly likely targets for bringing Palm's (and Sprint's) would-be savior to market. The latest evidence comes once again from our friends at Best Buy, where the
recently-added Touchstone inventory stub has already been updated to reflect an "In Stock Date" of -- you guessed it -- June 7. As we've noted before, that's a Sunday, which is Sprint's traditional launch day; not to say there's anything traditional about the Pre or the hype surrounding its appearance, but it's something to chew on. Worst case, we figure you'll be able to swing by your favorite big box on the 7th and pick up a cool, pricey inductive dock even if you can't pick up a phone.

Just as the new iPhone is announced, makes sense.
NOOOO!! Please not June 7 (although the evidence is irrefutable at this point), I will be out of the country and on a transatlantic flight that day. Arrgh, that means likely missing all the news as well!

I think this may be the closest thing to a confirmation we have. So Palm, June 7? I'll be in Vegas that day, so hopefully you have a Sprint store there (and I have money left).
I wonder if i'll be able to charge my Pre using my Oral B inductive charger; that worked for my dead Bimmer key.
Also take note to not look for a touchstone on may 10th, 2011, as they will be out of stock.
I don't know much bout launching habits, can any one tell me if there has been any product that has been released After its charger? cuz I don't think so

Does anyone else think palm pre will be a huge fail?
I mean, software looks good, but how can it really compete with the iphone or any blackberry. There is nothing innovative about this phone besides this touchstone charging station.

Palm pre has a touch screen, a physical QWERTY, application multi-tasking built in, and a pretty sexy form factor.

I think it's going to be a hit with small business types who need some of the outward functionality of a Blackberry, and consumer friendly features like a decent browser (I hope) and media experience. As WebOS matures, I think we'll probably see Palm try to supplant Blackberry in the enterprise space, some.
Not every phone has to be a game-changer to be successful. I'll let you in on a little secret - there are dozens of financially successful phones on the market at this VERY MOMENT. AT THE SAME TIME. It's crazy, I know. And most of them don't even have any new features you haven't seen before.
The deck of cards and notification system alone have me sold. If you're saying it does nothing new, you know nothing about the Pre.
these idiots just won't stop teasing. its a poor and stupid strategy. they done everything good until recently, delaying the release date. people have to get ready and be hyped about it. consumers are getting less hyped hearing about the palm pre now, they need a release date to be excited, mean while show features after you give the release date damn it!

"Consumers" know nothing about release dates. Only nerds who refresh their gadget blog RSS feeds every 2 minutes know release dates. Consumers only learn about a phone when they see a commercial, or see it in a store, or see their friend using it. Most of my friends have never even heard of the Pre, much less are losing excitement because there's no release date.

Sometime last year Palm (repeatedly) promised their new OS/device in "early 2009". They then changed that (in 2008) to "1st half 2009".
That has been the only official delay.
Even so Tonicboy, waiting longer and longer to launch when there's new hype for other phones (Microsoft and Apple now) instead of dominating the MONTHS they had to release is pretty stupid.
And even if consumers don't read blogs getting teased, "blog geeks" like us have money. It's dumb to annoy the large amount of us.
i didn't mean release date. made that post late at night, i meant delaying the exact release date announcement. geeks are a huge reason why the palm would be successful, so give us a release date! IMO releasing near the iphone launch bad idea shoould be 2-3 weeks

I signed up on their friggin website seconds after the CES keynote and haven't even gotten anything. Spring, Palm, this elitism bullshit is getting old fast.

If you think Sprint and Palm will do well, I strongly suggest you buy their stocks today. I don't think they are showing us anything that is extraordinary from the pack at all, and in the end, few people will risk a Sprint/Palm combo.
Funny thing is that Sprint and Palm have both gone way up percentage wise since the announcement. Many people think the Pre launch will be a huge success.

There's already been multiple posts that it won't work with SERO but that Sprint has Everything Plans besides their $99 Simply Everything Plan.
Their cheapest Everything plan starts at $69 and if you can find a Sprint employee willing to sign you up you can get the same thing for $59 (everything plus). While it's no SERO, it's far cheaper than the $100+ most iPhone plans require.
