ASUS delivers full specs on Eee PC 1005HA Seashell
ASUS' Eee PC 1008HA hasn't even had a moment to enjoy its spot in the limelight, and already the company is pushing out even more machines in the rapidly expanding Seashell range. The Eee PC 1005HA is slated to launch with Windows XP Home, a battery good for 10.5 hours (we'll believe it when we see it) and a 160GB hard drive. There's also 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display (1,024 x 600 resolution) and your choice of Intel's played-out Atom N270 or N280. The rest of the innards could be guessed in your sleep: 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 0.3 or 1.3 megapixel webcam, VGA output, three USB 2.0 sockets, Ethernet, a multicard reader and audio in / out. Fans of colorful machines will appreciate the white, black, pink and blue motifs, but you'll need to muster up a little more patience before finding out a price and release date. One more look after the break.

1024 x 600 ?
I'll take one if it's under $500 MSRP. Above decent specs.
I'll pay 2.000$ for Macbook air because it will show people that I'm not a poor person
OMG its full of shame to use EEE netbook in public its like declaring to everyone that u r poor
Don't forget to rate me down Poor fellas ~
And apple haters ~
Ummm....Dr House, if you need to call attention to yourself so much that you even need to remind people to rate you down, well, you need to find a better way. It's like screaming "I'M A TROLL, I'M A TROLL." You really need to get a new hobby because you're just not very good at this one.
@DR House,
please, take your meds.
DR House, that troll was way too subtle. You're clearly of too high an intellect to be a real troll.
give me a new f***ing cpu dawg
Would that new ulv Celeron chip paired with the 4500hd chipset do? I know for me it would, unless it is not as fast as the old Core Duo chip.
@Engadget:
That would be 1024x600 not 1204x600!
1204x600 resolution =O wont that be like a 2:1 aspects ratio? a vaio p competitor i see :D
anything just not an atom im so tired of seeing ATOM FUUUUUUUUU even though i want the ion this is just the main reason im not buying another netbook.
I just love the name. It reminds me of Mini-Me in the Austin Powers movies. "Eeeee! Eee! EEEEEEE!"
Hahahahaha.
I'm not alone!
I definitely think the 7" models should have stayed Eee, the 9" models should have been Eeee, and the 10" models the Eeeee. That would have amused lots of people like ourselves:)
The site quotes 3 different batteries.
Li-ion Battery 6-Cell 2.2Ah(48W/h), 8.5 hrs; 2.8Ah(63W/h), 10.5hrs
Li-ion Battery 3-Cell 2.2Ah(23W/h), 4 hrs
That would be nice if this seashell had user - removable batteries. But still if its under $500 I'd get it.
I think this is one of those models with the replaceable battery.
yeah, the battery issue is the only thing that's stopping me from getting the 1008HA. Once that's fixed, this is mine!
The Eee PC 1005HA is the model with a removable battery. The lower wattage battery goes in the cheaper N270 powered version.
why asus, why. where is the high res screen. H0rK needs his real estate.
The door stopper wedge shape makes the laptop look unattractive.
Why not make an OLED screen?
Thinner, lighter, better on battery, better on resolution...
And for petes sakes make a extra "empty battery case" filled with Air and make a lighter charger. For in wall electricity available spots id raather not lug the laptop and if i need to ill plug in the battery instead
Also, just plug in a dual core underclocked regular chip, o god so it gets a little hotter and not as good on battery and space but comon!
Add that nvidia tiny dedicated graphics card and a 11.6-13.3 inch screen and id pay 1000+$ easy
You just took the who idea behind the Eee PC and took a huge dump on it. If you want to pay $1,000, then I don't think an Eee PC is for you.
"This is not the netbook you are looking for..."
What you just described would be called a regular low-spec notebook. In that case, netbooks are not for you.
Oh, long battery life!
This has more USB ports than my $2500 Macbook Pro.

After reading the storey here http://linuxlock.blogspot.com/2009/05/acer-tells-kids-charity-pay-up-or-shut.html I am swearing off Acer products and recommend you do likewise. No company holds a customer's hardware hostage (for $100 bounty) and gets away with it.
Pay attention, this is ASUS, not Acer. Two different companies.
Is it true that these will only be available for sale by the seashore?
I think the reputation of notebook/netbook sellers would benefit from honest battery life estimates. If I'm given the word that the thing will run for 6 hours under normal use (normal, for a netbook, being moderate brightness w/wifi on and, of course, web browsing being the main function of use), and the thing actually gives you 6 hours, I'd feel a lot more inclined to buy from that company in the future. Besides, many of these modern netbooks are getting into the 6+ hours range of use anyway, which is nothing to feel ashamed about.
Asus isn’t exaggerating too much. You can get 9.5h with your Eee 1000HE, but more likely under normal use will be 8+. Here’s a good test: http://www.blogeee.net/2009/03/19/test-asus-eeepc-1000he/
If the 1005 offers even more battery life, i’m looking forward to it. :)
Ummm... Seashell? This one is 1.5" thick in the back. I don't see how it has anything in common with the ultrathin 1008HA Seashell that started this naming trend...
I'm still loving my 1000HE - don't see a reason to upgrade!
Oh.. and of course I'm running Ubuntu Netbook Remix :-)
If they keyboard isn't good, then I would still get the 1000he.
I just can't understand why Asus keeps making different models of the same computer over and over.
They change a button, maybe the battery and what do you know, here's a new model with a different strange name.
I have lost track of how many models of the Eee PC they have.
Even if I did want to get a new netbook, I wouldn't have the nerve or the patience to choose from the Eee PC range.
One very good reason to hate Microsoft is for the damn double standards they've got.
On one hand, for desktops and notebooks they declared,
"Oops, sorry but we don't sell XP anymore. But tell you what, if you REALLY want it, you can buy Vista Business with Downgrade Rights (for a $100 more than Home Premium) and roll it back to XP."
But on the other hand, we see netbooks all over the place that come pre-installed with XP Home as if it were the most normal thing in the world!
Now, MS knows that Vista is worth dirt and won't run netbooks (which happen to be the most popular up-and-coming devices these couple of years), so they give XP away to netbooks and carputers, but not to mainstream computers??
What a low-down, dirty trick!
The 1005 may look sleek, but it's the skinny 1008 that pickles my onions.
I'm so confused with all the Asus eee models now, I don't know one from another. Wait until Win 7 comes out, then there will be even more to choose from.
