I don't have a Unibody MacBook Pro, but I have the first generation MacBook Pro. After 2 years of use, my MagSafe adapter was frayed at the end from pulling on the chord to unplug it from my MacBook Pro. So I walked into an Apple Authorized Service Provider and showed them the MagSafe adapter. They handed me a new one with no questions asked and all was well.
I did learn a lesson: pull the MagSafe adapter out of the MacBook Pro by the square head rather than the cable.
