Acer's been largely mum about its new Aspire
Timeline laptop since its initial unveiling back in early April, but now it looks like the company's getting ready to roll out the portable to the customer base at large, if these spy shots from a from a Canadian-based Future Shop store are any indication. The list of specs is a bit hard to read, but from what we gather, the 14-inch Aspire 4810TZ-4129 is packing a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium SU2700, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, a DVD drive, WiFi, WAN, a touted 8 hour battery life, and Windows Vista Home Premium. No indication on the price or official street date, however, but if they're being sent to retail, we can't imagine we'll be waiting too much longer. Feast your own eyes on the specs sheet in the image after the break.
Update: Reader Oleg has written in to let us know it's also up for pre-order at UK retail site
PC World --
14-inch for £550 and
15.6-inch for £600.
[Thanks, waterboy99troop]
Sweet, the lack of new information on these recently has been really starting to bug me. I really need a new laptop (dropped my netbook way too hard) and I've been thinking that a 13.3" CULV-based laptop might be just powerful enough to justify the increase in price over a netbook.
no more 300% markup on ultra portables :).
The CULV Core 2s smoke the Atoms. With the 1.4Ghz Core 2 Duo you should be able to manage smooth YouTube HD, which has become my new benchmark for being performance-worthy.
God, I want this laptop so bad! But, of course, not with a Core2Solo but with a more real-world Core2Duo processor. Can't wait for it! And yeah, I live in Canada!!! :)
Hey guys....there's no info after the break.
Canada Computers has them in stock and has more details:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=023656&cid=896.645
He's not kidding/spamming...Though anyone from Ontario would expect no less from Canada Computers.
Yeah but apparently only the Core Solos. Ncix also has them listed but not in stock until end of June.
Looks neat, especially the 8-hour battery life. Price?
Much more than The Air, most likely.
760$CAD for the 15.4" apparently (See my earlier link)
That's pretty nice - now if they used a 9400M chip instead of that Intel crap, I'd be completely sold.
Btw autocorrelation, your name just brought back unwanted memories of my recent econometrics exam >_>
@shirkpower ; It's worth far more than the Air , but it's half cheaper. How can iFans can explain that ?
Well we could just do what we always o and point out R&D, quality, and overall awesomeness.
But you wouldnt listen, so why try (:
Hey Shirk!
@shirkpower
I'm an Apple fan but come on. The Macbook air has a nicely engineered shell, but the rest is pathetic. No FW, No GigE, No eSATA, no Expresscard, no 3G, 1 USB port, etc.
Not to mention the damn chipset constantly overheats and screws up the display and Apple's "solution" was to run the fans full power and underclock the GPU.
@ ShirkPower
So if Apples R&D is so great, why does the battery on the 14" last 8 hours plus? (been tested by trustedreviews to be true) With more power (except GPU), a decent selection of ports and a DVD drive? Why do people act as if Acer/Asus/Dell/etc. has no R&D costs even when they usually have MORE features/battery life/rigidity/ports then the competing Apple products.
you must not have watched the Apple battery video they came out with the new air... jeez i feel like im the only one who watches the keynotes
They will also be available very soon in Germany @ www.notebookcampus.de
IT's 95 degrees out, how the hell could it be "CHILLIN" n Canada? I'm Canadian and resent that racist simile.
Shhhh.
We're supposed to perpetuate that myth. It keeps out the riff-raff.
Soopergooman is clearly an American in disguise as a Canadian, he just used Farenheit instead of Celsius :P
Besides, it's still a bit early in the year to be hitting that sort of temperatures.
I don't know r3loaded, it was 29 Celsius in Hamilton the other day. that's like...um...oh, only 84.2. Damn you are right. Shows how well I know the Fahrenheit scale...
Wow 95F is way too hot. It reached an awesome high of 19C/66F here in Calgary, Alberta lol
It was painfully too warm for mowing the lawn... err i mean shoveling my snow.
I just used that number see, I'm a Canadian actually a Newf to be precise. Also it did get up to 31degrees here this past week so um yeah. go stuff those chilly cold or frozen Canadian jokes right up your big fat arse.
That computer tries really hard to look like a macbook.
Indeed- if I liked Apple's current industrial design I'd buy one of their computers, damnit!
Ummm what? This looks nothing like a macbook, wrong colour/dimensions/design and generally being completely different.
Man, if I'd known you guys were this interested I'd have sent you the spec sheet a week and a half ago!
We've had these in stock at PC World for over a week now, they're not actually that good looking or slim (IMO)
http://www.pcworld.co.uk:80/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1078316400.1243297713@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjadehfmikjdhcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=655410&category_oid=
Bit overpriced too (but then everything is in PC World)
I work at Walmart and this has been on the sales floor for about a month now the 15.6 inch is selling for $598
Just an FYI, FutureShop is Canadian based, but it is owned by Best Buy...It's kinda weird...In Canada, there are some shopping centers that have both Futureshop and Bestbuy (I used to work for a hardware retailer)...So I would expect them to pop up at Best Buy shortly as well...
Opps, no way to edit...I meant hardware manufacturer...EVGA actaully...
a bit more information for you guys...
the 14" is selling for CAD$799.99 at future shop... if my store is any indication, the stores in the western part of canada should have them in stock sometimes this week... no words on the 13.3" and the 15.6" versions, but i would assume they won't be far behind...
btw, it's 4GB DDR3 RAM... here is a bigger shot of the side of the box...

you guy can find it here,

Hey, you can already buy it in Romania!
http://www.cel.ro/laptop-notebook/notebook-acer-timeline-as3810t_354g32n-su3500-320gb-4gb-l/
These are on-sale en-masse in Singapore (and probably all over Asia by now) for more than a week.
They ARE pretty sweet. They look and feel gorgeous and they're not terribly expensive (start at $1300 sing. dollars)
You should be submitting more details and better photos than what we have here... and a week ago!
Bring on the Core 2 Duos (CULV)!!!!
this is out in the uk in the currys branch as i work for them and on our saturday delivery this came into our store and i got the opertunity to put this out on shop floor, my first impressions of this was it was quite sluggish in vista for general use, one thing that i found interesting was that in the box there was a leaflet with acers infomation on windows 7 suggesting any laptop purchased after june 26th would be an acceptable for a free version of windows 7 on equivilant spec to the current installed vista i.e. windows vista home premium would be swaped for windows 7 home edition
I work at a Future Shop in Canada, got this machine in yesterday... pretty sick. Pricing is at 799$ Canadian.
Acer has had specs for several models up on it's site for some time now. For example the AS3810TZ-4880 has:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium ; 64-bit version; Intel® Pentium® Processor SU2700 (2MB L2 cache, 1.30GHz, 800MHz FSB) ; 4GB (2/2) DDR3 1066 SDRAM; 320GB hard drive; 5-in-1 card reader; Acer® CineCrystal 13.3" WXGA (1366 x 768) TFT display; Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD; 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN, gigabit LAN, webcam
You can search for that product number and find it in the US. For example, MacMall has it available for preorder at $607.99:
http://www.macmall.com/ttsvr/p/5497266?dpno=7817256&source=MWBgooglebase
I hope they release more models than they have posted on their site right now (for the 13" and 14"... the 15" isn't up at all yet). Only one of the posted models has a C2D...
I want that notebook badly, i think it's the perfect combination of low price, low weight and high specs (i agree with the complains about the video, but nothing is perfect). I think the 14" version is the best, it has dvd-drive and it's not as heavy as the 15.6" version.
I picked up one of these at my WalMart a few weeks back.
Argh why can't they make decent models like this that actually look nice too with the option to throw in a 256/512MB video card? Also as far as processing power goes, is everything topping out around 2-2.2GHz nowadays??
the Acer timeline is already sold here in Cebu, Philippines. Check the pics and local prices here http://www.electronicpulp.net/2009/05/26/acer-launches-aspire-timeline-laptops-in-the-philippines-with-intels-culv-processor/
Well it was launched on the Canadian Shopping Channel a couple of weeks ago. See item no.601672. Only 15.6" model SU2700, 4GB, 320GB SATA hard drive, 5400RPM; english only. They have not been shipped yet. I have also seen it on a canadian online computer site and actually saw one in their Ottawa store! Most of the comments seem accurate; not impressive looking; keyboard resembles the MACBOOK keyboard and the aluminium finish is not impressive BUT given the price tag, can I afford to pass it up???
